Most major cities are great for exploring fine dining and museums, but less ideal for adventures in the mountains. The same can't be said for Chile's vibrant capital of Santiago! On top of the hustle and bustle of the inner districts and the more restrained atmosphere of Las Condes, Santiago offers a genuine mountain commune in the form of Lo Barnechea on its northeastern border.
From the sights of the neighborhood to the stunning natural beauty of the nearby mountains, our vacation rentals in Lo Barnechea are definitely worth a visit on your next Chilean adventure!
As the larger, western neighborhood of Lo Barnechea, Pueblo Lo Barnechea combines the restaurants and facilities you'd find in any small town with the stunning views of the Cerro El Plomo to the east. Shoppers are sure to flock to the Portal La Dehesa, a sprawling mall offering all of your favorite brands. After a morning of shopping, head north to practice your golf swing at La Dehesa Golf Club a short drive north.
The Pueblo is also home to a few mountain peaks of its own. Hiking awaits at Cerro Dieciocho and Cerra Alvarado, while the more heavily forested Cerro Medio offers you an opportunity to walk amongst the clouds and glimpse some amazing views!
The El Arrayan neighborhood to the east is less crowded than Pueblo Lo Barnechea, making it ideal for quiet, lazy days relaxing under the shadow of the mountains. Follow the Camino el Cajón as it winds alongside the gentle trickle of the Estero del Arrayán, admiring the swaying trees and sounds of the abundant wildlife as you go.
Pick up some supplies at the Centro De Eventos Estero Arrayan, before heading to the tranquil Santuario de la Naturaleza for a picnic in the great outdoors. When the sun starts to dip below the horizon, head south to the Pochoco Observatory to learn more about the wonders of the night sky.
Lo Barnechea is arguably the best destination in Santiago for day trips since it is surrounded by parks, mountain trails, and more stunning sights. The La Paloma and El Plomo mountains tower over three miles high, providing incredible views and challenges for mountain climbers brave enough to try for the summit. The lower levels of the mountains even have glaciers to explore. The hanging glaciers of Plomo and Iver lie far to the north, but offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience that's difficult to find in South America.
If you're not feeling up to trek all the way to the mountains, just head to the Santuario de La Naturaleza El Arrayán. The sprawling natural park offers a wide variety of sights and activities, from free-form hiking and biking through tree-shaded trails to structured activities like tours for kids and horseback rides. All the while, keep your eyes peeled for the animals that populate the area. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Andean Condor - along with all the other natural sights awaiting you, Lo Barnechea is one of the only places you can spot Chile's national bird in the wild.
For anyone looking to stay near the comforts of Santiago while having easy access to natural sights nearby, a stellar vacation awaits at our vacation rentals in Lo Barnechea!
