While more peaceful and secluded than staying in the city proper, you'll still enjoy easy day trips to museums, the San Diego Zoo, and beautiful Southern California beaches. Legoland in Carlsbad is just 19 miles west, and right in the neighboring communities of Rancho Santa Fe and Escondido you'll find many different restaurants, galleries, and shops.
This custom-built Southern California retreat takes advantage of the great year-round weather with multiple outdoor patios, perfect for your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon. There are panoramic views of nearby Lake Hodges and the coastal mountains, with many gorgeous spots for outdoor entertaining.
You'll enjoy three distinct outdoor sitting and dining areas, along with plenty of peaceful, quiet spots to steal away with a good book. And of course, you'll want to spend time in the saltwater pool, complete with a cave and waterfall and the eight-person hot tub for a gorgeous view of the lake. (Please be aware that the pool is usually left unheated.)
When you do come inside, a lovely sitting area overlooks the water—this is a perfect spot for unwinding at the end of the day. Throughout this vacation home, there are multiple TVs with DirecTV and Apple TV, a DVD player, and VCR, as well as iPod docks throughout the home. There is also WiFi so you'll be able to easily look up recipes, find nearby attractions, or stay in touch while you are away.
The gourmet kitchen is truly a work of art. You'll have beautiful stainless steel appliances, including a state-of-the-art double Viking oven and six-burner stovetop, two refrigerators, a separate pantry area, an espresso maker, French press, and a coffee grinder, as well as a Bosch double dishwasher! Whether you're planning a festive holiday meal or just heating leftovers up in the microwave, you'll find everything you could ever need here.
This gorgeous getaway has three wood-burning fireplaces—one in the breakfast room, one in the library, and one in the wonderful master bedroom. There's also a game room complete with table tennis and foosball—perfect for kids of all ages.
At night, the six bedrooms will sleep up to 14 guests, with a king-sized bed in the beautiful master bedroom. This relaxing space also has its own fireplace, sitting area, lake view, and gorgeous master bathroom, complete with soaking tub and a separate shower. A second master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, while the remaining four bedrooms each have a queen bed, along with sofa sleepers and/or twin-sized beds.
All bedrooms feature high thread count linens and in all of the four full bathrooms and two half baths, you will find Egyptian cotton towels. We live in San Diego and just needed a place to get away and relax. This home has everything we needed including a beautiful pool, excellent view of Lake Hodges, a fabulous kitchen, bonus library and fenced yard (for our 2 dogs). The home and pool were clean upon our arrival and there were no glitches with accessing the rental. The AC needs work, but we didn't experience excessive heat and managed. We will return.

We had an incredible time here with our extended family and friends! The house was stunning. It was huge, enough space for everyone to hang out together and have their own space, and every room had beautiful furniture and hidden details. The pool was perfectly heated, had a cave and a waterfall and the kids rarely got out. The kitchen was gorgeous and we cooked many big family meals together. Just remember to bring all your own ingredients! We even needed to get out own salt and pepper! But there was plenty of cookware and beautiful Italian tableware. The views were breathtaking day and night, and the s'mores over the fire pit were a huge hit. The caretaker responded within minutes of each of our requests and was incredibly helpful. It was an incredible trip and we can't wait to go back!

From the moment we drove in to our last sigh before leaving, this was our most memorable family vacation. The home is a symbol of humble Spanish livability. It has everything, including originality in every corner- no two rooms are the same, and all feel like the home we wish we had. It features every amenity about which we cared; pool, hot hot hot tub, spacious bedrooms, a library, a media theater, rec room... and oh, what a view. Four dining tables from elegant to casual- we occupied all of them at one time or another, and sat outdoors overlooking the lake from sunrise 'til bedtime eating like kings from the meals we prepared in our wonderful, spacious kitchen. A special thanks to the staff at Vacasa... few rental experiences are devoid of problems and we had our share. But the appointed super was there immediately to flatten every wrinkle. As we all took our last look around, sighing before we had to leave... memories of a special peacefulness were the central topic of discussion- like nothing we had felt before. We'll be back. I personally can't wait.

The views from this lovely home were gorgeous of the lake and surrounding hills. The house was great for my wife and 2 grown sons and me as the boys had their own "wing" of the house and each selected their own bedroom/bath with several to choose from. Our master bedroom was wonderful with a beautiful view of the lake. The table tennis and foosball table in the game room adjacent to the pool were used daily as was the hot tub after golfing or hiking in the surrounding areas. My wife was very impressed with the beautiful kitchen which was thoroughly stocked with utensils, cooking and dining ware. There were numerous gathering places to sit and chat or eat your meals. The management company checked in with us to be sure all was A-OK during our stay. We only wish we had more than 4 nights to enjoy this beautiful home as we did not even get a chance to enjoy the movie/tv room while we were there.
We would recommend (and have) this beautiful home to others.

This was the PERFECT place to gather all 5 of our adult children & their spouses & grandkids. The layout offered multiple gathering spots for those wanting to play games, those watching games on TV, those wanting to just sit and chat. The pool & hot tub were the best entertainment for the kids. They swam off & on from morning to night. Th kitchen was wonderfully designed with a good prep sink and a butlers kitchen for clean up & an extra fridge where we cooked wonderful meals, never needing to order out. Everything about this place was so comfortable. Absolutely PERFECT !

House and view were wonderful. Interesting layout with enough space for gathering and getting away. Location is conveniently close to shopping and necessities and only 30 minutes to beaches and other attractions. Kitchen leaves a bit to be desired. We cooked 7 out of 8 nights for 16 people. It was a struggle to find knives that would cut, serving bowls, and other items (there were pieces and parts from at least 2 food processors, but we couldn’t get things to fit together or work, which would have been helpful). Biggest gripe is the internet - it is absolutely horrible. Everyone has a smart phone and even though it is vacation, we couldn’t look up info on where we were going and had to resort to cellular data. In this day and age, Internet is really just another utility you need to have, and unfortunately this place doesn’t have it. We tried resetting several times a day, sometimes we would get lucky, other times not.
Overall, we did enjoy our stay, but with a few fixes this place would be 5 out of 5 stars.

This was the nicest home we have ever rented. We were a little bit worried that the home would not meet our expectations once we checked in, boy were we wrong! We rented the home for our wedding party and spent the week here with everybody who was standing up in the wedding. We have been gone for 2 days and are already dreaming of going back to the house. It is spacious and had plenty of room for 6 couples. The views are incredible and the property is well kept. Thanks for a dream vacation!

As shown in the photo, the outdoors around this home are spectacular. Massive, yet with a quiet grandeur. Eating breakfast outside is a great way to start a day.
Most rooms in the house are large and spacious. The bedrooms are in two separate wings and each has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Rooms are large with lovely views. There are 2 kitchens that are great if you want to keep most of the mess out of sight. The table next to the cooking kitchen (as opposed to the cleaning kitchen and pantry) can sit up to 14. The TV room is surprisingly small given the rest of the house but we are not bigtime TV watchers so tis was never an issue for us. There are lots of pots and pans and plenty of tableware. Our complaints are minor -- the dishwasher was on its last legs and did not clean well and during our stay there was a planned power outage but we did not learn about it until late the prior evening. Overall, a great house for a family get together.

Our family group consisted of 3 in their 70's, 4 in their 50's, 2 in their 40's, 3 in their 20's, and 4 teenagers. Everyone had a fabulous time and wants to repeat every other Christmas (we go to my place in South Carolina alternate Thanksgivings) since I sold the BIG HOUSE in Baltimore where we lived for 45 years. One daughter is a physician in Escondido so we decided to switch coasts for a
California Christmas. Hard to beat considering the weather back east. It was the ideal setting for an active, fun loving family.

This home was jaw-dropping. The views are killer, the pool is great, the bedroom set up is convenient with plenty of privacy and space, and the movie theater room was nice. My only complaint comes with the lack of common area with a TV, especially if you are staying with high occupancy. There is not one room that holds 6 or more comfortably to watch TV. Wanted to watch a few big football games together and had no where to do it.

This was the perfect rental for our family reunion celebrating my husband's and my 70th birthdays. We had five mini families within our nuclear one totaling nineteen people including nine grandchildren ranging from 22 months to 22 years.
The best thing is that we did not have to figure out what do do with down time. The pool, the game room, the decks took care of all of that.
Each family was able to have its own sleeping space. It was so nice to have a television room for little ones and a theater room for the older ones.
Kitchen was roomy plus equipped with two refrigerators, large freezer and great stove. It was nice to have four eating areas: two inside and two outside.
We all enjoyed the two decks along with their fantastic views and ample seating.
The biggest hits for my family were the pool/hot tub and the ping pong table in the game room. The pool was used anywhere from two to three times a day. The lap lane was a special bonus for our adult children who swim for exercise. Two grandsons organized a ping pong tournament lasting several evenings. In other words all enjoyed time at the villa as well as the outings we went on.
One note for future renters is to check with the local property manager with any questions regarding amenities. We were told by Vacasa that some items we needed were not provided and they were.
Megan Rose, the local agent, was great. She answered any texts promptly and was super easy to work with. She made us feel like she would do all she could to make us have a positive experience.
Most of us felt like this was the best vacation ever so a thank you to the owners for sharing it.

I liked the house and the view was beautiful. The house was kept well as well. The only problem I had, was that I was promissed an early check in, but on the day of I got an email saying that the house is not available for early check in. Because of this we had to rearrange all our plans because of them ir last minute email. The email also mentioned that usually they don't allow early checkin.

We loved our stay in Escondido and would recommend this home for its spaciousness and breezy indoor/outdoor California living. We were a total party of 16 and it was the perfect size for everyone. It was very nice to have all the windows and doors open during the day. The view of the lake is gorgeous. Each bedroom is spacious and was private even with shared bathrooms. The master bedroom was out of a dream: spacious bathroom, beautiful view even from bed. One downside to our stay was discovering how much the home needed upkeep. Short list of things that were broken: main freezer, hot tub, waterfall, toaster, lightbulbs in the kitchen area, AC unit in the game room, etc. These were not core to our experience but it was an inconvenience. The other downside is general communication. I had to ask twice about supplying the home with drinking glasses, and in the end I had to purchase wine and champagne glasses during the stay. I received written approval that they would be reimbursed to me and I provided receipts. I still haven't seen the reimbursement. I also had to ask twice about getting the lockbox code to the home, and did receive it about an hour before checkout. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get access upon arrival! Again, these are small things that take make trip preparation more time consuming than it needs to be. But the home itself was well worth it!

There is a second freezer provided at the home as the main freezer is part of a custom appliance that cannot be fixed right away. The hot tub and waterfall are working, and light bulbs have been replaced. The air conditioning units will be serviced and the toaster will be replaced if necessary. We delay giving guess their entry codes until we have seen a form of ID as a way to prevent fraud; we apologize for any inconvenience this caused our guest.

We were a group of 22 family members including adults and kids. House itself is great with lots of space for kids and adults to hang around. Kids loved the pool, jacuzzi as well as the TV room which had enough chairs and beds to watch their favorite cartoons! Kitchen is great and equipped with all the required cutlery and utensils which made it easy for us to cook quick dishes with eggs etc. House has some excellent views from patios. It has many bedrooms but just 1-2 have great views and their own bathrooms. Others share bathrooms but it was not an issue for our group. We did not explore much around the area as we had food ordered in and hung out in pool a lot.
Overall, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this house to future guests as well.

We ended up having a lot of fun just hanging out by the pool, watching movies in the movie room and cooking excellent meals in the cavernous kitchen. The property was perfect for our team. It's the first time we stayed in a house instead of a hotel and there's no way we'll go back to a hotel. This was perfect and Vacasa's staff was awesome through the process!

We just had a mom's weekend and we LOVED our stay! In fact, we didn't even want to leave the house! The view was AMAZING! We walked the neighborhood, hiked trails at lake hodges and visited local restaurants. It was fantastic!

We recently rented this VRBO for a teenage hockey team visiting for a tournament in Escondido. I have not heard one negative comment from the players or coaches about the stay at the house! The team was able to save money by preparing their own meals and were able to entertain themselves and spread out while not at the hockey rink. We were very respectful of the quite hours set forth by the management company and had no issues with any neighbors.
Overall, the memories that these teenage hockey boys made over their stay at the house will last a lifetime!!!

House is plenty big for 8 golfers, rooms are a little quirky but it does work. Views are unbelievable . Great kitchen, hot tub & patio. Close to major highway 15. All restaurants,grocery stores are 5 -10 minutes away. Our group will be back for sure!

We stayed in this house for a week. It had everything we could think of needing and more. All we had to do was buy the food we ate. The house is beautiful and the view is breathtaking!! We had a wonderful time!!!

This house is stunning! It took the entire weekend to explore every nook and cranny of this immense villa. Each room has custom features that make it one of a kind. The layout of the house makes it so that the guests can retreat to one end and have complete privacy. We ended up having to label the ends of the home the "east wing" and the "west wing" to find our way. Other homes we have rented have been sparsely decorated but not this one. The decorations were gorgeous and warmed up the house so that if felt lived in and not just a rental. We fell in love with the beautiful furniture, especially the one-of-a kind wood pieces like the hand carved Moroccan coffee table in the library. We also loved all of the outdoor living space as well. The pool and jacuzzi provided a larger play area for our guests while the patio and gazebo off of the kitchen provided a peaceful place to soak in the sun and enjoy the stunning views. The kitchen! Wow! What a great place to cook and entertain in. It was large and had a great flow so that those who were cooking could still enjoy the company of the other guests. All of the glass doors in the house slide open to give a seamless flow to the indoor and outdoor areas. You can literally take one step out of the game room and be in the pool! It was truly our dream home. We will definitely be renting this villa again! Thank you!

We had a team meeting here. It rained a lot but with that we were still able to be outdoors some and the views changed nearly every hour and were breathtaking at times. We had plenty of room and privacy but we spent most of our time in the heart of the home. The kitchen area and casual dining with the fireplace and the view. Megan was awesome and even brought luggage to us that was lost (she was making a trip back from the SD area and offered!)

The views words can't describe how breathtaking this house is. The location is great easy to find lots to do in the area. We weren't far from the stadium so we enjoyed a chargers game. Overall this house had all the supplies you needed.

This house is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for a large group. Each room has a bathroom attached (two rooms share a bathroom - but each has a sink in the bedroom). The views are outstanding and the amenities beautifully done. Not particularly ideal for families with young children - we went with a 3 year old and 9 month twins and were terrified about the pool being so close to the house with no fence. However - we should have known better as we saw the photos. There was just really no way for us to "baby-proof" the area as the doors open up fairly easily. There is a really fun theater room that my 5 and 3 year olds LOVED. The bedrooms are all generously sized - all with queen or king sized beds. I will DEFINITELY return to this property. We had a blast and did not want to leave.

This custom Villas was absolutely perfect for our family reunion. During the day, the view was magnificent and the amenities were great for the kids. We had a great time with 14 adults and 5 kids. The bedrooms were gorgeous. Beds were top notch, lots of parking and close to stores and restaurants. We did have a series of maintenance issues, but Megan and Lance were quick to respond. We love love love the property during the day. However at night, it can get a little creepy given the vastness and canyon location of the Villas -- especially when various hall lights decides to switch off and on by themselves! Not sure if those were on timers (though we couldn't see any censors or timers) or if they were due to faulty wiring, but It certainly made for interesting conversation! I would love to rent this property again for our reunion next year -- but only if the owner/property manager are willing to give it some much needed TLC and fix the lights. Overall, our family Reunion was fantastic and we created enough memories to last a lifetime.

Who would have thought that such a place existed in SoCal?
The house is located in a perfect location with unobstructed 180 degree views overlooking the mountains and lake. The house is absolutely gorgeous, not only is it humongous but the details put into the house make it feel warm and welcoming.
Megan, the property manager was extremely helpful, called the day of and discussed the property. There are also two speaker systems throughout the house to add more ambience to the place, one of which is our by the pool. The pool itself is unbelievable - massive and well kept.
The pictures are great and look nice but it's actually even more beautiful if you can believe that.

This home is a treasure. You will NOT be disappointed. As soon as you enter the gorgeous courtyard - you feel as though you are in another world. The perfect getaway place. It's secluded, private and has ALL of the amenities you can imagine. We hosted a get together will all of our moms, grandmothers and bridesmaids - spent five days putting our crafts and materials together for the wedding in two weeks. It was a hoot! We will cherish these wonderful memories forever! The pool is so incredibly beautiful - and the outdoor sitting areas are breathtaking. You feel as though you could be just about anywhere.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is well stalked with all of the dinnerware, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, bowls, etc. you could ever need. We had 19 in our group - there was more than enough! We brought back up napkins, papertowels, dishsoap and laundry detergent just in case. I don't think we used hardly any of our own.
BEDS
Plenty of room for all 19 of us. If you have children, you'll fit even more! (sofas, bunk bed, etc)

We rented this house for a 2 day work retreat/meeting and it was perfect! It was large enough for everyone to have their own bed; there was plenty of room for us to meet as a large group during the day; and the kithcen was perfect for cooking together. Of course, the views are amazing and the pool and game room provided a fun break from our meeting time.
My team wants to come again next year!

This home worked out perfect for our family.
We were celebrating our 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. We were 8 adults, three teenagers and three children.
Great pool. Owner brought over new beach towels which was very nice. We were 30-45 minutes from most of the places we wanted to visit. Good restaurants nearby.
Home was comfortable and very well furnished. Plenty of dishes and glasses for meals. Absolutely beautiful views and private. We would recommend home to friends.

This house made you feel like you had your own private resort. I had friends visiting from out of town and we got to stay 2 days together at this gorgeous home. We never had to leave and only wished we could have stayed longer. Everyone was very impressed with this house. Beautiful!!!

This home is perfect for family gatherings and get-aways with a group of friends. It's huge and still cozy. The double kitchens make it possible for half the group to prep and the other half to clean up meals without getting underfoot. The large seating area in the kitchen, makes it possible for the "cooks" to socialize with those who aren't cooking. The numerous seating nooks give plenty of alone time to those who need it.
The views are exceptional and the furnishings are very comfortable.
The two bedrooms suite are definitely a cut above the other bedrooms and could create some tension if not assigned ahead of time. :-) The description lists twin beds, but in fact two of those are mattresses that would be placed on the floor for additional sleeping. The sleeping loft is great, but is not really accessible to anyone unused to a steep vertical climb. The linens were lovely and there was an ample number of towels.. One thing that was especially great was that all toilets were separate from the showers or had privacy doors and that's a terrific feature with multiple people having varied needs.
The pool is cold in the winter so none of our group used it, but we made lots of use of the hot tub, which was wonderful. The orchard was an added delight.
And the theater room, library and office area were extras that we would have made more of if we had had more time.
Megan gave us a very thorough tour when we arrived and could not have been more welcoming. I highly recommend this property.
