Large, dog-friendly home on three secluded acres w/ balconies, deck, views

This lovely five-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom Sugarloaf Key vacation rental sits on three secluded acres, making it perfect for a quiet weekend escape to the beach and sun of the Florida Keys! You’ll certainly find serenity in this multi-level home with its sweeping views of the coastal landscape and plenty of space for up to 10 lucky guests and two dogs!

With an address in Florida’s Lower Keys, this home offers quick access to world-class sport fishing, diving, snorkeling and kayaking in the flats of the Upper Sugarloaf Sound. All of that is a short drive away and amazing culture and entertainment is only 18 miles from your door in Key West.

The home itself has an eclectic mix of wall colors and furnishings that together broadcast an artistic elegance, giving a warm and inviting feel that will appeal to those seeking an escape from the ordinary.

Up a staircase and over a front porch, the front door opens to greet weary travelers with beautiful tropical furnishings including a tiled floor, potted ferns and a banana tree, and a large, framed mirror.

To the right as you walk in is where you get the first glimpse of an open floor plan that includes a living room, kitchen, and dining area. Vibrant sunrise yellow-colored walls frame large portrait windows that have elegant floral-print drapes. A lovely coffee table is the perfect place to rest your morning cup of joe as you read the newspaper on the cushy couch behind the table.

Or head outside to wake up with the briny air and warm coastal breeze on the deck, which sits just beyond French doors attached to the dining room.

For days when its just better to stay indoors, feel free to make use of the living room’s flatscreen TV, which includes cable programming, and a DVD player. A chess set and board games also add to the indoor entertainment options, so bring a group and play a fun game during a downpour!

After a full day of fun in the sun, if you’re tired and hungry, retire home to get cooking in the well-stocked kitchen. Modern day amenities like a microwave, stove, oven, and dishwasher make meal preparation and cleanup breeze - so get cooking!

When that meal is ready, rest assured you’ll have plenty of space for your whole group to sit down and enjoy it at either the dining room table, which seats six, or at the kitchen island, which has room for four more.

After dinner, head outside to eat dessert on the deck. Watch a glorious pink sunset and soak up the beautiful views the area affords.

You’ll be pretty tired after that full day of activities, but know that bedtime bliss awaits in any of the home’s five bedrooms, which altogether can comfortably accommodate up to nine people (with a maximum occupancy of 10). The master bedroom, with a beautiful king-size sleigh bed, two nightstands with lamps, a ceiling fan, and direct access to the outdoor deck, sits on the first floor, while four more - two with king-size beds, another with a queen-size bed, and a fourth with a daybed and pullout trundle - sit on the second level.

Two of these upstairs bedrooms offer private deck access, where guests can sit in Adirondack chairs and enjoy sweeping views of the pine tree and native Florida landscape. The rooms are sparsely furnished with dressers, nightstands, window drapes, lamps, and ceiling fans in each, but they exude an elegant simplicity.

Three full bathrooms and one half bathroom makes waiting for showers not a problem and eliminates conflict with other morning routines. Two of the bathrooms (one on the first floor, another on the second) have jetted tubs, which will soothe aching muscles and are the perfect place to relax and unwind at the end of the day.

And don’t worry about packing extra clothes - a private washer/dryer will keep your clothes clean and smelling fresh! WiFi is also included, so go ahead and check your email or surf the Internet!

Do you want to come but can’t bear leaving your affable pooch at home? No worries! This home is dog-friendly with an additional pet fee, so bring along up to two furry friends!

For outdoor entertainment, rent a kayak and head out for some maritime exploration on the Sound! Use your car or simply enjoy taking in the beautiful scenery with a meandering walk through the area.

If you feel like taking a day to explore the area’s renowned history, head west into Key West to the Hemingway Home and Museum, where writer Ernest Hemingway once lived. Or maybe your group wants to have some coast-inspired adventure? Take a drive 40 miles east to Marathon Key, where parasailing, scuba-diving, snorkeling, and other beachy adventures await, or go sky diving just three miles away!

When the hunger begins, visit the Square Grouper Bar & Grill.

If you don’t bring your boat to Pelico Paradise then you can get in and on the water with Fury Water Adventures out of Key West. They offer a variety of watersports including snorkeling or sunset cruises aboard the Fury Catamaran, thrills in the air with Fury parasailing, or reef eco-tours aboard the Fury glass bottom boat. Private charters are also available. For the real enthusiast, try Fury’s combo packages or the Ultimate Adventure which includes reef snorkeling in Key West, parasailing, jet skiing, kayaking, rock climbing, water trampoline and much more.

For world class snorkeling and scuba diving visit historic Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. For the experienced diver visit the Adolphus Busch, a 210-foot freighter named after the senior member of the Busch brewing family and lays 6 miles southwest of Big Pine Key.

You can take a drive to National Key Deer Refuge in Big Pine Key to view the protected key deer and also visit the Blue Hole, the only freshwater lake in the Florida Keys, or you can stay at Pelico Paradise where you may see key deer and peacocks from a nearby peacock ranch right on the grounds!

Whether you’re seeking relaxation or activity, land or water adventures, rest assured you can’t go wrong with a Sugarloaf Key getaway. So book this pet-friendly Florida Keys vacation rental now and get planning your epic escape from the ordinary!

The house was great... they need just a few updates...faucets and doors. We had a great time looking for the resident iguanas. Great area to do daily walks and not a bad drive into key west. Would definitely use it again.
Manager response:
Thank you for your review, Sandy. We are happy you had an enjoyable stay for your birthday! We have passed your comments along to our local manager who will work with the homeowner to make any updates. We look forward to hosting you again!
Mark A. Nov 2019
Location was close to Key West. Very private.
April H. Aug 2019
We loved this home! There was plenty of room for our group of 7. Key West was a short distance away, so we were able to return to the house to freshen up before traveling back to enjoy the evening sunsets. I would stay there again! Thank you for opening up your home to us.
Pamela M. Jul 2019
the size and room layout was perfect for our extended family group. Lots of iguanas, geckos, birds and of course the peacock and rooster.
Collin M. Jun 2019
Wonderful place! Easily accommodated our party of 9 with room to spare. Would absolutely rent again.

Big,spacious house. Room for our family
Bret M. Jan 2019
Very clean and spacious home. Plenty of room for a big family/group. The property is quiet and secluded as well for a private feel. Only about 20 min or so from Keywest for all the activities.
Claire W. Jan 2019
Stayed at this house with a group of 10. More than enough room for everyone and a great house. Awesome views and very private. Close to Key West.
SCOTT J. Nov 2018
BRING BUG SPRAY HERE. The NoSeeems here are CRAZY. The house was in great condition. The pictures are accurate also to the condition. The exterior LED house lights do not work so its a bit creepy pulling up to the house at night. I would definitely rent this house again expecially for the price.
Manager response:
We appreciate the guests feedback. The bugs are a problem in South Florida during the summer when there is less breeze than usual. All of the outside lights have been checked and are in perfect working condition. The floodlights are on a sensor and the switch is located at the bottom of the stairs as well as inside the house. Local Management has since started leaving the porch light on for guests due to daylight savings.

Close enough to visit Key West but also secluded enough to feel like your own private getaway! Great family house or weekend getaway with the boys!
Mark A. Jul 2018
Great place, nice and secluded with good sunset views and great deck/kitchen/grill set up. Accessible to Key West and Marathon by car for all your town/fishing needs.
Antonia Q. Jul 2018
The surrounding wildlife and openness. Rooms were clean.
Brandon T. May 2018
This house was perfect for our group!! Very clean and welcoming. It was decorated beautifully! Plenty of room for all four couples to hang out and dine together, but also able to retreat to wind down. Perfect distance from Key West so you are able to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the true beauty of the Keys. Booking was seem less and we never had to worry about a thing!! Would certainly recommend!!
Buddhika D. May 2018
We stayed here for about two days until we drove to fort lauderdale, and we stayed at the hilton there. IT WAS SO DIRTY compared to this house, we wish we booked it longer!! Thank you so much for a great stay.
Virginia E. Apr 2018
The size of the house. How Clean and close to everything it was.
Patricia A. Mar 2018
The house was large enough for everyone, very clea and the beds were comfortable , we saw deer, a large iguana and a peacock on the property.would definitely rent again.
Myra D. Mar 2018
The house is large and beautiful with lots of amenities. We enjoyed the quiet location, while still being close to Key West. There were a couple of minor issues -- lights on the back deck did not work and there were rats living in the grill. Hearing the peacocks was cool and we saw deer in the early morning and evening. Overall, the house and property met our needs well.
Milton C. Feb 2018
This house was perfect for our huge extended family & our dogs. The setting is lovely - secluded but close to everything. I hope we can stay here again in the future.
Teresa L. Feb 2018
Everything was perfect! Would do it again in a heartbeat.
Kevin M. Feb 2018
This was the second time we stayed here and we have been very satisfied with the quiet setting. Very relaxing. Always very clean. Showers have the best water pressure in the Keys.
Eric R. Jan 2018
Very nice house with gas grill, fire pit, and ample deck and porch space. Large enough for a big group to feel comfortable. Off the beaten path!
Nicki G. Jan 2018
Our family had a great experience at this home! There was plenty of room for all six of us. We liked having a grill out on the back patio. It made for great dinners! We went when it was a little chilly so we missed out on the wildlife which was a little disappointing but nobody can control the weather! We would recommend staying here especially if you like a quiet location.
Lee D. Aug 2017
We really enjoyed our stay. We had 9 people total living comfortably for a week. We were about 25-30 minutes from Key West and the ability to make our own meals when we wanted was very convenient. There were more than enough pots, pans, and dishes for use as well as a dishwasher. I would definitely recommend this home.
Mary S. Jul 2017
Great place with plenty of room. Loved the wildlife.
Megan M. Jul 2017
Home was great and met every need for our large group!!! 20 miles to down town (25-30 min drive)... Great fishing spots all around and if interested in Renting a boat, Back Country Boat rentals is only 3 miles(7mins) away which I HIGHLEY recommend!!! Nearby skydiving and scuba diving as well!!!
Melvin J. Jul 2017
Didn't like the long ride to Key West's Duval St...we made multiple trips back and forth. ..Next time we'll find a location a lot closer.
Lucy S. Jun 2017
Convenient to Key West and the State Parks. Lots of parking and the price was very reasonable. Peacocks sound like screaming people so YouTube it for a heads up!
Walter M. Apr 2017
We enjoyed our stay at the house. Highly recommended. Great property and location.
Sung T. Apr 2017
overall great property, loved it
Adele K. Apr 2017
Had an incredible weekend. The property was clean and experienced no issues with the deck as aforementioned in reviews below. I was apprehensive since I read the reviews after purchasing the house for the weekend - but all decks were useable and in great shape. Property Manager was extremely responsive and available when we called to ask a few questions. As other reviews mentioned, we saw iguanas and peacocks on property.

Other people within our group were even discussing staying at the house again for future getaway weekends. I would highly suggest this home - it was used for my mom's 60th Birthday. We were extremely happy.
Yesenia G. Mar 2017
Great place! Very clean and beautiful.
Dorania M. Mar 2017

Wonderful house and area, lights, chairs need a little update.
Kevin M. Feb 2017
Great property, very quiet and laid back. Perfect for us. Close enough to and far enough from Key West. Wonderful decks and outside space.
Emilly M. Jan 2017
A little pricey but everything is in the keys.
Maria F. Dec 2016
This place was so awesome for us. It was a big group and we had plenty of space. We dint wan to leave.
Caleb D. Sep 2016
The peacocks walking around were very cool and the overall experience was amazing. The house was nice but some spots in the decks were rotten and could have been dangerous.
Nabbie P. Sep 2016
The interior of the home was amazing. Exterior could use some help. Trees need cutting, balcony is unstable and not all outdoor lights work
Brooke W. Aug 2016
I would highly recommend this house for your next vacation spot! We had a great time and the house had plenty of room for everyone. It was 5 minutes from the local boat ramp and a short drive from Key West! It had a great yard for the dogs to run around on. We will definitely stay here next time!
Jorge M. Jul 2016
I will recommend this property its location and the house was really incredible
Erika V. Jul 2016
Had a great time with friends during our stay. The house was spacious and we had plenty of room outside for games. Negatives to the house is that the air conditioning unit is small and there is not much air flow to the downstairs.
Tamara R. Jul 2016
Our stay at Pelico Paradise was a wonderful experience! The property was perfect for our family gathering and the house had everything we needed. The décor was very tasteful and we were pleased to have our family visit us there. We had a group of 9 staying at the home and everyone was very comfortable. We had family staying in Key West also and it was just a short drive for them to visit us. We all loved the "rural" setting including the peacocks, deer and iguana we saw on the property!! The peacock's "call" is initially startling, but once you realize what it is, it adds to the ambiance of the natural setting. We did not attempt to walk down to the water, so cannot comment on the distance but there were beautiful views from the upstairs balconies, especially sunset. Would definitely recommend this property.
Julie L. Jun 2016
We enjoyed our stay at the Pelico home very much! The location is centrally located between the lower keys and Marathon & Islamorda (fishing hot spots) and worked out very well for our group.

Some nearby places to consider visiting: Bahia Honda State Park (beautifully, well mainted beaches), Theatre of the Sea located in Islamorda (awesome sea creatures and live shows w/o large crowds like at Sea World), Fort Taylor Zachary State Park (loved the "natural" beach feel), Mallory Square & Duval Street (live street shows and lots of shopping and good eating).

The home was well maintained. Upon arrival, we did a quick run through of the house and didn't find anything that was broken or needed to replaced. The furnishings & furniture throughout the house were also well kept. The only thing we had complaints about was the slow internet. We weren't able to stream movies via netflix or use our tablets/ipads to connect to the internet due to slow signal but we found other things to entertain ourselves. There were a handful of board games and satellite TV available. We didn't lounge outside much as we spent most of our days out and about venturing other islands & attractions. It was very convenient to have a grill outside but wished it was located on the deck vs on ground level.

Everything was very clean. No visible smudges, crumbs or dirt. The floors could have used a good mopping though. We did spot a few cockroaches but I am sure they are prone creatures to Florida's warm climate. We were not alarmed and it didn't affect our stay. We noticed 1 dead roach in the upstairs bath so it was a good indicator that the house is or was being treated.

Check-in and Check-out was a breeze. Very easy access to house and I really enjoyed the early check-in/ late check-out feature via email. My entire process with Vacasa has been great. We would definitely stay here again! Very pleasant experience overall and the location and price can't be beat!
Blayre M. May 2016
We had a group of 7, and the accommodations were just perfect. There was even 1 extra bed. Very clean home. It was fun to see the small deer and peacocks upon arrival and when we would come back at night. Very quiet at night, fun to see the ocean from the deck. Overall, very lovely stay !
Nilka M. May 2016
We LOVED this place, perfect vacation house, everything was spotless and it had everything we needed it. The peacocks are a bit noisy in the middle of the night, but that is nature!
Lisa L. Apr 2016
The home is very spacious and beautiful. The décor is very nice. Kitchen lacking quite a bit. Cleaning the furniture would have been great in the living room. Bedrooms nice. spacious. Balconies are nice but wood rot everywhere. loose boards and nails. Potential hazard. Peacocks wonder the property all day and night. Don't feed them they poop everywhere! Only view of water is off top bedroom balcony. Lots of space in the house and the property. Sits on a lot of land. Would have liked to see more tropical foliage outside along the grounds instead of rocks, dirt mounds and a bulldozer. But the privacy was nice. Only 18 miles to Key West. Not far at all which was nice.
Manager response:
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We are happy that you enjoyed the home we appreciate your detailed feedback. We want to make sure that the homes we rent are in the best condition for our guests so we have let our property manager know about the deck and the cleanliness. Thank you again for choosing Vacasa.
Thomas O. Apr 2016
This house was wonderful and secluded for a comfortable family get together. We had four family's together for a wedding in Key West and had a wonderful time
Navin D. Mar 2016
Great vacation home. Lots of amenities close by and the fishing was awesome. My family and I enjoyed this home very much and are planning to stay here again. I would recommend this property to anyone.
Tyler B. Mar 2016
Very nice place
Alexis B. Feb 2016
The house is beautiful and spacious. It is not on the water but is conveniently located close to a lot to restaurants and bars. The only thing that was a little off-putting was the huge trash/dump pile on the side of the street with lots of junk strewn about. Other than that it was a great place to host my friends and family for a relaxing weekend. Would rent again.
Manager response:
Thank you for your review. We apologize that you arrived to a trash pile and will be sure that is taken care of to the best of our ability in the future.
Susan L. Feb 2016
The house was really beautiful. We were greeted by two beautiful peacocks in full spread. The wildlife was really exciting to watch and the whole area was a fun place to explore. It was a short distance to Key West and all the exciting things to do. We had a wonderful time and will certainly utilize this property again .
