This home offers two bedrooms on the second floor. The master bedroom boasts a queen bed overlooking the water, a large collection of books, and a classic leather chair. The focal point of the room is an original fireplace dating back 300 years, adorned with a beautiful wooden African balafon, just one of the many pieces of decor unique to this home. The second bedroom has a full bed and antique furniture. The two bedrooms share a common full bathroom and this home can sleep four comfortably.

Loved the view of the bay! The home is truly a piece of history and has been well loved through several centuries. Very convenient fully equipped kitchen, and the laundry appliances were very convenient.

Well prepared and set up, good facilities, lovely character, great deck with superb aspect over the water towards Plum Island, walking distance from Newburyport

Our family loved this property! We were a tad concerned about the greenheads at this time of year. However, we didn’t have one encounter! We spent a lot of time on the beautiful deck. Very relaxing!

We absolutely loved the views. Waking up in the back bedroom and opening your eyes to a full view of the water without even getting out of bed was breathtaking. It was so peaceful to have coffee in the morning or wine in the evening on the deck while looking at the river. If you like watching birds then this is your place. It was special to stay in a house over 300 years old. The location is perfectly situated between Plum Island and downtown. I would highly recommend it.

Would highly recommend the gentlemen at check in was more than helpful

We have a fantastic time at the Artist's Retreat. The home has so much character and charm. The view is breathtaking. We enjoyed watching the penguins come in and out with the tide and watching the people pull over to see if they are real or not. The location of the home is perfect as you can walk into town if you like. We truly enjoyed this unique stay.

The most amazing location and view even in the winter - very cozy.

This house has a remarkable location with a view of the Merrimack River going out to sea. Pleasant to watch the ducks and marsh out of your window.
This old hse has a lot of character and some quirky features.
You need to be comfortable with climbing tight stairways. The only bath is on the second floor.
Water street is very busy with lots of traffic and noise.

This was a return visit for us. Had stayed here previously and had a wonderful experience. We were aware before visiting the second time that rails had been added to the deck and were concerned about the impact it might have on the view. We were happy to find that the materials used made the rails tasteful and it did not take away from the view. This property probably isn't for everybody. For those with mobility issues or small kids it may not be appropriate. If you appreciate history and enjoy imagining another era, this place is perfect. Located with easy access to many restaurants, shops, and things to see. Easy access into Boston, New Hampshire and even Maine, or be perfectly content just relaxing in this home watching the tide come in and go out. We love this place!

What a fantastic place to stay. Old house, built in the 1700s, overlooking the tidal river. It was brutally cold, but we still managed to get outside on the deck so our child could look at the duckies, and also to enjoy the beautiful sunrises over the water. Nearby dog park was very convenient. And location was perfect: just outside the downtown area, but still a short drive or long walk from restaurants, etc. The house has a wall of windows overlooking the water, great for relaxing, enjoying the view...

The location is stunning with glorious views of the water and sunrise. The house is very old and delicate so I would not recommend it for children or people who are mobility challenged. That said, it is in the perfect location midway between downtown Newburyport and Plum Island. An easy walk to downtown and a step out the door to launch a kayak.
Kermit H. Jan 2017
The unobstructed views of the water and wildlife in a lovely home only a few minutes walk from downtown is pretty irresistible.

You can't beat the charm of this historic house located at the mouth of the Merrimack River. There are fantastic views from both floors, easy access to Plum Island and Newburyport. This is a truly special spot!

Our experience in Newburyport over the holiday was great! The house is historic and really very nice, and nicely appointed. Our contact person was very responsive to all of our questions and concerns. Highly recommended rental.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The view over the marsh to experience the sunrise was breathtaking each morning.

To watch my husband just sit and look out the doors and windows was gratifying. It was exactly how a vacation should be -- very relaxing and grounding.

Jared was very attentive when there was a power outage in town. It was quick to get back to us to keep us updated.

Can't wait to go back.

Had an amazing stay at the artist retreat. If we are ever back in the area we will absolutely be staying here! So beautiful and peaceful.

The view is incomparable

We are very familiar with Newburyport and environs and usually stay with friends. This time, a wedding in the family precipitated our rental so as not to be underfoot. The location couldn't have been better. Lovely spot and nice walk into main shopping/dining district. Understand this is an antique house. Nothing is square or level. This aspect of the home was very appealing to me. It might not be to others, though. And do pay attention to the warning about small children. Not a good spot for little ones.

Home is an antique with wood floors. It was very clean with a wonderful view of the ocean. The town stores are walking distance. When I had a question, they got back to me right away.

We came here with another couple for my husbands birthday. Newburyport is an awesome place to stay but we mostly hung out at the house. The house was a really cool, historical house (super old. Seemed like a lot of original details). The location right on the water with the deck looking over the ocean was so magical. We could hear the waves from the bedroom in the winter with the windows closed! So cool! Great place, highly recommended! I'd love to come again in the nice morning but probably couldn't afford it!

Original home is 300 years old and has been gutted and redone nicely. Very low ceilings may not work for very tall people. Spectacular views make this a delightful and relaxed setting, just a 15-minute walk to downtown Newburyport.
No curtains in the bedroom facing the Merrimac, so bring a blindfold for sleeping if you want to sleep in. Otherwise you will wake to brilliant sunrises over the Merrimac. The house also may creak at night but it's old. No Poltergeists... but it did cross my mind! Probably just a squirrel on the roof one night.
Very comfortable otherwise: big screen TV with cable, washer/dryer, microwave oven, etc, I look forward to staying here again.
