Unique, dog-friendly woodland cabin w/ a detached studio, on the McKenzie River!
This inspiring riverfront Vida cabin blends modern architecture with fantastic outdoor amenities that will make you feel like you’re floating on water! A detached garage studio makes the space ideal for two families or a group of fishing buddies.
This Springfield-area cabin is in a secluded temperate rain forest in Vida near Nimrod, and is located directly on the McKenzie River, across from Eagle Rock. Guests enjoy easy water access for fishing, rafting, or kayaking and the home is the perfect mid-way location between the McKenzie Bridge area and Eugene / Springfield, just 37 miles away.
Inside, a dramatic front wall of windows provide floor to ceiling views overlooking the McKenzie River. Rustic hardwood floors and cozy lounge furniture make the open-concept living room, dining room, and kitchen an inviting retreat from the woods. Tie fishing flies from the comforts of the sofa or find your rhythm in the rocking chair while watching a movie on cable. A crackling wood stove keeps the space intimate and down-to-earth, and the lack of WiFi makes it easy to stay in the moment.
Celebrate meals as a group around the charming wood dining table with seating for six. Hearty meals of chicken noodle soup or chili will fill everyone up while the phenomenal views feed your senses! Meal prep is made easier with help from a fully stocked kitchen and breakfast bar, with additional seating for three. Once the plates are cleared, leave the cleanup to the dishwasher while you dive into a good book by the fire. Didn’t bring anything to read? Grab a book from the library and get lost in a story, puzzle, or game.

Outside, the main home's deck is nestled in old growth trees, lush moss and greenery and built as though it’s floating on the McKenzie River! Choose between the beach firepit or the gas grill under the unique pagoda structure, to roast hot dogs (it’s more fun on a stick) or s’mores by nightfall. The bridge leads to the boat landing, as well as a trail system for jogging and walking. Kick up your feet in a camp chair and let the flow of the riverwash away your worries.
When not relaxing on the deck, the river and surrounding region provides ample opportunity for outdoor recreation! Catch your fishing limit of trout, steelhead or salmon from the banks of the river, just steps away from the cabin deck or hire an area guide for a truly memorable experience. Nearby is Tokatee Golf Club, ranked as one of the best in the US, the McKenzie River Trail, ranked the number one mountain biking trail in the US, Hoodoo Ski Resort, and Cougar Dam and Hot Springs. Great views, private setting & rustic atmosphere. Our family of 7, plus 2 dogs, stayed at this cabin over the holidays. It worked well for our large group, despite feeling a bit cramped at times. Kitchen and dry firewood were well stocked. Some of the mattresses were uncomfortable, they could benefit from an upgrade. Also, a larger dining table would work well in the space since this rental is advertised for large groups. In the summer, this might not be as much of a concern since there is plenty of outdoor space to eat and relax. Bonfire space next to river was wonderful. Outdoor grounds were well maintained, with ample lighting at night. Natural, quiet and scenic setting with old growth trees and giant ferns. Don't forget to bring CD's, movies and fishing supplies!
I enjoyed this house immensely, but I didn't like the poor layout of the furniture and the lack of seating. I recognize this is a weird complaint, but with such big and beautiful windows and scenery they could have done so much more with that space. Having said that, I would totally stay here again! I loved the privacy and river access!!
Location and views were outstanding. House well laid out and well equipped. However, some small improvements are needed. Microwave and oven are greatly outdated (knob on oven was missing and we needed pliers to operate it). The separate studio had a strong odor of gasoline at the base of the stairs. Otherwise it was a lovely house in a quiet, serene riverside location, and our family reunion was all the better for it.
Our little family (hubby and I and 2 boys) were sad to leave after our five day stay. The cabin is well appointed and the pictures are accurate. It's situated on a beautiful section of the McKenzie river. There is a good current, but water is shallow, and no rapids. We put our chairs in the water, or waded over to the little island across the way. Although the property can sleep 12 with the added studio above garage, I think that would be too crowded. It felt plenty spacious for the four of us, and maybe one more family up to 4 would be ok. Rating this 4 stars instead of five for a couple of MINOR issues. Washer and dryer were still full of linens when we got there, so I folded them up and put away. And some kitchen items usually provided were missing (only 2 coffee filters for the week). So we bought a few things to leave for the next guests. We would defiantly stay here again, and next time bring friends to share in the fun! Thank you!
Our group of 9 absolutely loved this house. It was clean, comfortable, and located in the most perfect location. The sound of the rapids from the river were the perfect noise to fall asleep and wake up to. The fire pit just feet from the river was just about as close to perfect as you can get. We took advantage of the hammock next to the river every chance we got. We even braved the cold water on a hot 95 degree afternoon and saw lots of rafters go by, watched wildlife, and enjoyed the scenery. With a group of 9 it was great that there was a pantry just off the kitchen for extra storage as we had loads of food for the week. Even the drive up to the house was exquisite with the close trees and full forest all around. The house was located near so much; the McKenzie Pass, Clear Lake, whitewater rafting opportunities, various waterfalls, hot springs, Eugene, and so much more. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again some day.
The cabin was everything we hoped for! Beautiful setting along the McKenzie River. Very clean accommodations. Zia, the lead housekeeper thought of every detail for us. Zia is terrific!
First off, the house was clean. Everything we needed was provided from kitchen to bathroom to fire pit. Furnishings were comfortable and fit the style of the house perfectly. The views out the front of the house from morning to night were spectacular. Second, the location was perfect. Close to great fishing, beautiful lakes and water falls, huge trees even right next to the house, a year round Christmas Store near by, pretty good pizza near by for that last night you don't want to cook, and the Oregon coast is a pleasant day trip away along with the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and if you don't want to go anywhere, you're already right next to the river to begin with. The ONLY 2 things to watch out for is: 1, Once you get there, time will move sooooo fast. Your last day comes in just a blink. 2, We did have a bit of trouble finding food that we forgot to bring when looking in the local stores. A lot of the stuff we looked at was MONTHS past the expiration date on the various packages. We saw one that was over a year! I'm sure this isn't the case in the bigger cities further away and this has NOTHING to do with the house or its service. Just plan accordingly in that aspect.
All in all, I want to go back tomorrow!!
The house is lovely and the view is so beautiful!! Peaceful, comfortable place to stay. We would stay again.
Absolutely perfect weekend getaway to relax. My only suggestion is to update the bunk beds. They were loud and not comfortable.
Awesome weekend! Only caught one rainbow trout but it was a great time in an amazing old growth forest near Eagle Rock - with eagles and Osprey. We spent a lot of time around the bonfire and fireplaces. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful cabin! Family of 9 had an awesome week! Great kitchen and beds were comfortable! Hiking was amazing! Vida cafe was yummy! We will be back!
Location, house size, and fire pit were amazing. We never wanted to leave.
this was our second stay and it is lovely. We had a relaxing weekend and the views are fabulous! the house has everything you need and then some!
The property was nice and clean and the campfire spot by the river was awesome. It was nice and secluded which meant that we could be loud and still not disturb the neighbors. I will definitely stay here again.
The wood-burning fireplace is charming and the large windows facing the river make for a great view. There is a fire pit by the riverside. And you can walk the perimeter of property via a little trail, albeit a quick route. The cabin kitchen is dated but sufficient. Unless they replace their cookware supply, I would recommend bringing your own skillet and pan. They mostly had scratched up non-stick, which we wouldn't use.
Three bedrooms upstairs with one bathroom. One bedroom downstairs with 2 sets of bunk beds. All small but cozy. Guest quarters over the garage had a double murphy bed. Dining table was a bit small considering the headcount that the house can hold but there was also a bar top kitchen counter to sit at.
We appreciate receiving this feedback! The owner has replaced the cookware with a new set for guest use. The Murphy bed provided is queen-sized. Thank you!
We loved staying in the McKenzie River Cabin! Everything about the house was perfect. The huge windows were beautiful, it snowed while we were there and sitting in the living area with the windows made for such a cozy day with lots of memories made. Can't wait to come back soon!
Well equipped, riverfront retreat - great kitchen, comfy beds! Thanks!!
Great family set up, well appointed, amazing view. Safe and secluded
I rented this cabin and adjacent bungalow for our family's Thanksgiving retreat. We had a great time - space was perfect for children (ages 4-9) and adults. It was also so very special to be able to bring the family dog. Space was perfect for sleeping and play time. Even though we had rain most of the time, we hardly noticed, since the 'indoors' was so very warm and inviting. Thank you!!
Beautiful location. Lovely place, nicely decorated.
Easy to find, just off the highway.
Well kept, lovely site on the McKenzie River.
Great place if you're looking for seclusion and river access. Had a relaxing few days watching people floating down the McKenzie, building fires by the water and driving into Eugene.
Absolutely magical home. We had family visiting from Scotland and staying here was the highlight of their trip. Perfect location for all of the beauty the surrounding area has to offer. Awesome indoor and outdoor space. Don't forget your bug repellant!
Fantastic location right on the McKenzie River.
Wonderful weekend on the river. The cabin was amazing- very clean and had everything we needed and more! We will be back!
This home is incredible! Such a beautiful location, tons of sleeping available, and loved the mother in laws quarters! Vacasa even had the campfire set up perfectly so all we had to do was light a match. Tons of available wood as well at property. The river is brisk, but so beautiful to hang out by. I recommend pulling out the hammock from under the stairs and setting it up in the proper spot by the river! The water closest to the home is shallow which we really appreciated having kids, however it does not make for an easy fishing spot. You'll have to go exploring to find a better spot for that. Tons of cooking utensils in the kitchen and extra propane under the stairs were all greatly appreciated. Can't wait to come back to this gem!
I hate to even write a positive review for this home because I don't want anyone else to go here! It is a gem beyond words. I reserved this home for a girls weekend and we all were completely in awe of the beauty of this property and the home. I swear there are fairies just outside the door to greet you. We couldn't get over the view even though we are all from the northwest. None of us have stayed in quite a spectacular all around rental before. I think a few of us even would love to get the blueprints for our next homes. We also really appreciated how easy the checkout process was. As soon as I got home I started planning our next trip, but this time with our husbands and kids. Don't tell too many people about this Secret!
The weekend was so nice out at the vida cabin!
Would stay here again ASAP!
The house was so beautiful and had a great home feel.
Cant wait tell next time!
This cabin is beautiful, everything about it!
Its a great place to rent for a family vacation!
This was a very good place to kick back and relax. The river is fast but the sound is soothing. Being right in the woods was great as well. I will definitely return.
Loved the setting, having big glass windows to look out on the river was really lovely. I would say the living space is a little on the small side, but very cozy.
W thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cabin in the woods...the weather was chilly and a bit rainy but it did not hinder our trip one bit!!! The location is perfect the view is awesome and we can not wait to visit again! The cabin and the guest house are perfect for family get togethers...the fire pit by the river was perfect and they supplied the fire wood! We were out there every night, adults and kids enjoyed it so much! We were only there for 4 nights and it just wasn't enough time...so we decided we will come back again in the future for a longer stay! You will not be disappointed with this precious little cabin...spacious and comfortable for a large group...a trip we will not soon forget! Cleanliness is a must for me and the place was very well taken care of! Kudo's to the owners for providing a great home at a great price! Worth every cent!
This place is a spectacularly amazing dream come true.
What a lovely home. The views and sounds of the river from the deck, or from the fire pit next to the river were stunning. We walked the trail they'd carved into the woods several times during our stay.
The house itself was beyond any other vacation homes we've stayed in. The owners have gone above and beyond to make sure their guests are well taken care of. From the comfortable furniture, beautiful throw blankets to snuggle down in, comfy throw pillows and comfortable beds, our comfort was thoroughly covered. There were games and cards, and an eclectic collection of books,in addition to the television for entertainment. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything needed to stay tucked into the house without need to leave.
In addition to all the thoughtful and well planned amenities, there were also conveniently located emergency supplies like the flashlights tucked into night tables and a transistor radio plainly visible on a shelf, in case of power failure.
I'm sure we missed some of the well thought out amenities the owners took time to make available to their guests because there were just so many of them.
It's not often you find a vacation home that is furnished for the comfort of the guests rather than for the risk of damage by unruly guests. It was refreshing to feel like we were trusted with fine things.
I'd love to return here to stay.
Overall this was a great experience and wonderful family fun weekend. Unfortunately the breaker kept getting tripped and only one heater worked in the upstairs bedrooms so it was pretty cold at night. We enjoyed being tucked in the woods and close to the river and loved that it is pet friendly! It was a little pricey for what was offered, but we would stay again!
Great family gathering and easy jaunt to UofO football game!
The setting is as good as it gets and the house overall is very nice.
Beautiful setting. Great place for a family gathering.
This home was wonderful. It is located right on the McKenzie River in a beautiful setting. The place was very clean and had every accommodation that you would want. We loved our stay here and plan to return.
Had a great time at the cabin. It was very comfortable and relaxing. The cabin was spacious and had a wonderful view of the river. The riverfront set up was great and we enjoyed the woodstove.
Please see our review of the property on VRBO.com. It's sufficiently more detailed.
This house and property, quietly overlooking the river, exceeded all expectations. We loved it. RP
A great place on the river and the house was wonderful. Thank you!
Great location in the forest and on the river.
Wow, What can I say....The house was perfect. Very clean and well maintained. No amenity was left behind, wood stacked for both the fire place and the fire pit, everything you could need in the house to cook family meals, the instant hot water was awesome to have on hand. The deck was a great place to hang out, the river was gorgeous, we enjoyed the beauty and the wildlife that passed by. Lots of seating, beds were comfortable, location was private. I highly recommend this home.
The house was cozy and comfortable for the five of us. It was wonderful having poor cellphone service/internet since our teenage/young adult sons couldn't spend the whole trip texting friends and planning on-line games, which meant they had time to play board games, cards, and to build a puzzle together as a family! The kitchen was well stocked to create family meals. We were fortunate enough to see a herd of elk on the property. Our favorite part was rocking in the two person rocking chair while reading or visiting and enjoying the beautiful McKenzie River and and forest right outside the huge Windows! Thank you for sharing your house with us for Spring Break!
