Dog-friendly home w/ deck, picnic area, & foosball - close to Acadia & more!

Make a memorable summer escape to this four-bedroom Southwest Harbor home, a well-equipped family property with a private deck, a lovely yard with a firepit and a picnic area, and an ideal location for visiting Acadia National Park. Two dogs are also welcome for a small nightly fee.

This sun-splashed home is located in Manset, a small village just two miles south of Southwest Harbor on the quietside of Mount Desert Island. Here at the mouth of Somes Sound, you'll be only three miles from the edge of Acadia, five miles north of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, and 16 miles southwest of Bar Harbor.

Come home from an afternoon of kayaking or hiking to relax in the casual living space, where you'll find an open floor plan, tile floors, and a comfortable leather sofa and armchair. Open the curtains to let in the summer sun, use the free WiFi to share photos of the day's adventures, and gather around the coffee table with a deck of cards or a board game.

Move into the adjacent full kitchen to pull fresh lobsters from the refrigerator, shuck some corn at the eat-in table, and get your favorite ingredients ready for a summer evening barbecue. You'll have standard appliances to assist with the cooking, as well as a gas grill just outside on the deck.

Set the picnic table on the grass for an al fresco dinner in the shade of the trees, and let your kids play tag on the lawn as the adults finish up the cooking. Come dessert, you can gather the provided lounge chairs around the outdoor firepit to roast marshmallows, tell stories, and make lasting memories with your loved ones.

As the adults linger outside on the deck with their coffee, the kids can head indoors for a friendly foosball tournament. And as the day's clothes spin in the private washer/dryer, the entire family can gather for a movie or two on the flatscreen TV with cable and Netflix streaming.

With four bedrooms and two full bathrooms, the Hyewood House will accommodate as many as eight guests (including a maximum of seven adults). You'll find one bedroom with a king-size bed, one bedroom with a queen-size bed, a third bedroom with a twin-over-double bunk bed, and a fourth room with two twin beds. The two bathrooms each offer a tub/shower combination.

Thanks to its tranquil location on the western, "quietside" of Mount Desert Island, Southwest Harbor and the village of Manset are a wondrous escape for hikers, kayakers, and all lovers of the Maine coast. Charter a boat to reach Sutton, Little Cranberry, or Great Cranberry Islands in Somes Sound, or wander the shores of Manset to catch the view of the Bear Island Lighthouse.

Spend your days hiking to the nearby summits of Beech Mountain, Bernard Mountain, and Mansell Mountain in Acadia, or take a dip on the shores of Echo Lake Beach four miles north. Head west for the morning to climb Cadillac Mountain or admire the jaw-dropping views on the Ocean Path, and return home to enjoy a few lobster rolls at Beal's Lobster Pier on Clark Point two miles north.

Come and experience the summer wonders of Maine - reserve your family vacation at this Southwest Harbor home today!

The house was Very well organized and clean. The location was also good. Close to Acadia National Park and gas stations.

This was a great spot right by Mount Desert Island and close to Bar Harbor. Southwest Harbor is beautiful and you get a view of the ocean from the house. It's very, very clean and looks just like the pictures. Backyard is great and there's plenty of parking. Great for a couples' getaway. Would definitely stay again.

There was a good amount of space, and the whole atmosphere of the home was comfortable and homey. Obviously, the house needs a little bit of TLC -- the deck needs paint, the fridge is old -- but truthfully that lent to the comfortable feeling. House was immaculately clean. Not a luxury stay, but a very pleasant, functional, and happy one. We loved the backyard fire pit, and the proximity to Echo Beach, Southwest Harbor, the Acadia shuttle, and the ferry to the Cranberry Isles couldn't be beat.

Clean, spacious and friendly. Only hotel/inn where the actual rooms are better in real life than in pictures. Highly recommended.

A great home that will house a large groups. We had three couples, a baby, and a grandmother, with room to spare. Had a kitchen table that we could all eat around, a living room that we could relax in, a front porch with several seats, and also a gathering area in the back (that we didn't use because it was not that warm). You can see the water (but not that much of it) from several windows. You can also take an easy walk to the beach and do some beach combing. We requested a portable crib, and I believe that they bought a new one just for us, which we appreciated.

A hidden gem tucked into quirky little Belfast. Steps from the harbor. Extremely clean and well kept. Elevator makes all 3 floors accessible. Lovely courtyard. Our suite was large and so comfortable.

Our first visit to Belfast Bay, and this experience was the highlight of the trip. No negatives. Top notch. Rooms impeccably clean. Easy access from rear parking lot.

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. The house was clean and comfortable and the kitchen had what we needed for cooking breakfast, packing lunches and serving up pizza supper one night. The host thoughtfully provided toiletries and kitchen necessaries. We enjoyed the location near quiet Southwest Harbor too. We recommend nearby Little Notch Bakery for delicious pastries, bread, sandwiches, and pizza. The drive to Bar Harbor is about 25 minutes - giving us some space between us and BH during peak tourist season. The Island Explorer shuttle runs by once an hour during the summer and stops nearby - or you can flag the bus down if you want. From the front porch you can glimpse the harbor and watch the fog roll in and out in the mornings. Some beautiful scenery and landmarks nearby if you don't want feel like driving to the busier parts of Acadia N.P.

Spacious bedrooms, comfy beds, nice bathrooms and a pleasant living/dining/kitchen area, well-stocked, nice front patio and secluded backyard fire pit and barbecue are. Lots of seating. Easy quick access to the sights. Very well-kept, nice neighborhood. Good public transportation - on the bus route and ferry about 4 blocks away.

This was a good house for our vacation - a small family who was spending a lot of time hiking and exploring Mt. Desert Island and needed a home base.

It's not luxury, but it gets the job done. We all slept very well - that upstairs bedroom with the light blue paint is a nice little haven. The living room couch isn't quite as comfy as it appears, but the coffee table turns into a dining-style table, so you can sit and watch TV together as you eat, or play cards.

We used the fire pit to make s'mores - we brought a Thermacell to ward off mosquitos, and if you don't have one, you're going to get eaten up.

We cooked in the kitchen several times during our stay - some of the pans could use replacing - but no complaints. It got the job done, and our resulting food was good. The grill worked fine.

The dish soap that the cleaning company leaves is dismal - I kept feeling like nothing was getting clean. Watch out for the trash outside - if you don't have it locked down, the birds will get into it and make a giant mess.

It was nice to have a washer/dryer, and the kids enjoyed playing darts.

The place could use some touch-ups and a few weekends of fixes/upgrades, but if you're looking for a reasonably priced, get-the-job-done house, this is a good choice.

Outdoor seating , front & back, and a big picture window to enjoy the front view. Basic nessities met. Feedback from the managing realtor about a lockbox problem not received. Basic promised resources not complete— very stingy with what was provided; no detergent for the wash we were requested to start. Cost was very high for furnishings and support provided as compared to other ME rentals engaged for our family vacation in this same year.
Manager response:
We apologize for any missing supplies and will follow-up with housekeeping on properly stocking the home. Thank you!

Very roomie, close to harbor. Easy to get to everything. Nice accommodations.

Everything!! It was the perfect place for us

It was a lovely home with easy access to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. It would be really nice though to have a printed book about the area and the directions as to what we needed to do to prepare to leave. Not everyone is tech savvy and/or travels with a computer or has service for their smart phone. Overall a great place to stay and we would come back.

This house was perfect for our group of five while visiting Acadia. There was plenty of space for all to have privacy and also good space for relaxing together. It was an easy drive to all parts of the park as well as to Bar Harbor. We would stay
here again if we get to return to Mt. Desert Island.

Great location and plenty of room! We enjoyed our time there very much.

GREAT!
Carolyn H. Aug 2017
We like the location, not to far from the attractions on Acadia. The back yard was private and the two grand children played there. We used both the provided gas grill and the fire ring, very nice.
I would like to see a dead bolt added to the front door and a recycling trash can in the kitchen assuming there is recycling.
I would also add to the instructions that trash pickup is on Friday. And list the day that recycling is picked up.

The Hyewood House was a great fit for our family of 5. Each kid was able to have their own room- 2 rooms are on main floor and 2 on the 2nd. There is a bathroom on each floor which was convenient. Southwest Harbor is a cute area.

Good house. Could have used more seating in living room and at the kitchen table. 1 person had to eat on sofa each night. Great location! We enjoyed our stay!!
