Recent Phippsburg vacation rental reviews

We stayed for a weekend to be near a wedding at the 1774 Inn, and hope to come back for no reason at all other than the house was so wonderful. Unbeatable views, peaceful porch with hammock, comfortable beds and luxurious bathrooms. We had everything we needed and the house was just so beautiful! We loved using the fireplace at nighttime in the living room. There are roosters across the street but we are chicken/farm people and loved hearing their happy crowing. The farm stand across the road had yummy pastries, coffee, and local crafts and souvenirs. Just a lovely area (we’d never been to Phippsburg before). Thank you, we hope to come back!

Where is Phippsburg, Maine?

Located in Southern Maine, Phippsburg is located on the west side of the mouth of the Kennebec River, about 94 miles from New Hampshire's border. It's part of the Portland metropolitan area that stretches 60 miles from Biddeford in the south to West Bath in the north.

Things to do in Phippsburg

With its unique geography of pristine coastline abutting deciduous and evergreen mixed forest, our Phippsburg, Maine vacation rentals are a great choice for adventures on both land and water.

Head out in the morning on a charter boat or aboard the Seguin Island Ferry to enjoy a narrated tour of Seguin Island’s lighthouse, which is the highest and second oldest in all of Maine! Once on the 64-acre island, you could even hike its numerous trails or explore its beaches where you can view wildlife like harbor seals, rock crabs, and herring seagulls. History buffs will enjoy learning about the island’s well-preserved historical structures – some of which date back to 1795! Don't forget to stop by the Seguin Island Light Station and thank its volunteers for preserving this historic landmark.

Also worth a visit is 529-acre Popham Beach State Park, which boasts a spacious beach, picnic area, charcoal grills, and beautiful scenery looking out toward Fox and Woods Islands offshore, and the Kennebec and Morse rivers bordering the beach. Swimmers, surfers, and sunbathers will all find great conditions to enjoy the sand and surf along this state park’s gently sloping coastline.

Are you a fan of early American history? If so, make sure to make the two mile drive from the state park to Fort Popham State Historic Site, a semi-circular coastal defense fort constructed in 1861, where current archaeological excavations are still uncovering new historical artifacts. Named after the pioneering colonist and Maine resident, George Popham, this once important site used during the Civil War is a fascinating attraction that will appeal to both kids and adults.
