In the far northwest corner of this gorgeous state lies the unassuming little mountain town of West Glacier. Where is West Glacier, MT?

Nestled on the west side of Glacier National Park, it serves as a gateway to the park. Just 32 miles east of the ski resort town of Whitefish, 39 miles northeast of culturally rich Kalispell, and 23 miles from the excitement of Columbia Falls, our vacation rentals in West Glacier are fairly accessible. For a quiet, lakefront experience, Bigfork on Flathead Lake and beautiful Lakeside across the way are not much farther.

Where to Eat in West Glacier, MT

For such a seemingly sleepy little town, West Glacier boasts many excellent restaurants and cafes. While it's name was changed to West Glacier in 1949 to make it more detectable to tourists, a few business still retain its original name of Belton.

One such business is the Belton Grill Dining Room & Tap, located in the original Belton Chalet. For those in the mood for intimate fine dining, this is your place. Choose from indoor and outdoor seating. Glacier Highland Restaurant is another excellent choice for a quality meal any time of day. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this iconic dining establishment is known not just for their clean and friendly family-style atmosphere, but for the magic they work with huckleberries - in both pie and pancake form.

Inspired by the red sedan "jammer busses" used for tours in the area, Jammer Joe's Grill & Pizzeria offers delicious create-your-own pizzas, all-you-can-eat buffets, and other classic diner fare. Lucke's Lounge is located in the same building and is the perfect spot for tired hikers to gather and enjoy a microbrew or a hand-crafted cocktail.

Outdoor Activities in West Glacier, MT

Glacier National Park offers a plethora of possibilities when it comes to outdoor activities all year long. Its famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, which begins 12 miles from West Glacier and stretches nearly 50 miles, provides an opportunity to view many snow-capped peaks and pristine lakes and experience alpine hiking trails.

River rafting and tubing are popular activities here, and more adventurous types might take a helicopter tour with a skilled pilot, and enjoy the breathtaking birds-eye view of this gorgeous terrain as you're expertly maneuvered in and out of mountainous peaks. If you prefer to stay on the ground, go hiking and get an up-close-and-personal experience with nature, then return to the quiet comfort of your vacation rental.

While West Glacier slows down in the winter, it offers a tranquil, serene getaway for snow lovers who want to avoid the crowds at the big ski resorts and just delight in the beauty of their surroundings. West Glacier is a beautiful location for quiet winter fun and relaxation with cross-country skiing, skijoring, and snowshoeing available in and around the park.
