Recent Cape Meares vacation rental reviews

Wow, the view from this place is incredible – you get a front-row seat to the waves breaking, and the sound of the crashing waves is just magical. The beds are on the firm side, but surprisingly comfy – had some of the best snoozes! Quick tip: the beach is long but a bit narrow, so it's a good idea to check the tide schedule if you're planning an epic walk from the private access on the property. Oh, and the hot tub? Clean, in tip-top shape, and they've got clear instructions posted inside – couldn't be easier. Definitely a highlight! I'm already thinking about a return trip. The kitchen had everything we needed, and bonus points for the recently updated appliances. Top-notch stay!

The view is everything! Cape Meares and the ocean waves, as well as being able to hear the crashing surf. The interior is nicely appointed and the kitchen updated. Washer and dryer were good as well as quiet. Wi-Fi and AppleTV/Chromecast gave many options. Very efficient wood stove as well. Exterior could use some paint but overall a great place to stay, would love to return.

We're giving the house itself 5 stars--beautiful home, gorgeous views, spacious with lots of amenities, comfortable beds--what's not to love? The area is very quiet so the perfect place to escape the crowds!  The management of the house does need attention. Unfortunately there was a power outage while we were there for about 8 hours on our second day due to extreme weather. The high winds had earlier blown out the pilot light on the gas fireplace so we didn't have that for heat once the power went out. The second fireplace in the bedroom wasn't working at all (there was a hand-written maintenance notice about this on the wall so management was aware prior to our arriving.) Also, there were no instructions anywhere on what to do, where to find supplies, what power company services the area, etc. With no power and no WiFi, most of our cell phones weren't working well either in this rather remote place. Eventually we were able to contact Vacasa but it took about 6 hours for a local manager to respond to walk us through how to relight the pilot light. There was a lot of poor communications within Vacasa management with really no one providing us great guidance other than "we're looking into this". We were dismayed that there was no house manual with emergency contacts, info on the fireplace operation, and no land line phone that didn't require electricity to operate. Vacasa definitely needs to step up their game.

Things to do in Cape Meares

Without a doubt, the number one attraction near town is the Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint. The small but impressive park is home to both the shortest lighthouse and the most giant Sitka Spruce in Oregon, as well as some of the Coast's best views over the crashing Pacific Ocean. The viewpoints in the park are known as a prime whale-watching spot during migration season, and a favorite nesting ground for seabirds, including the common murre, bald eagle, and peregrine falcon.

On clear days, visitors might glimpse the tufted puffins and Steller sea lions who enjoy protected breeding grounds at the Three Arch Rocks Natural Wildlife Refuge to the southwest of Cape Meares. Many vacationers along the Oregon Coast pass through Cape Meares as they journey along the Three Capes Scenic Route, a 40-mile loop drive that meanders along the shoreline from Pacific City to Tillamook. Even on rainy days, when you might be tempted to hunker down in your cozy Cape Meares beach cottage, the well-marked path at Three Capes is worth an afternoon's exploration, showing off some of Oregon's most panoramic viewpoints in state parks at Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda.

Along the sandy beach of Cape Meares and in the surrounding parks, visitors can enjoy some of the best hiking, kayaking, kite-flying, crabbing, fishing, and birdwatching in the state. While Cape Meares itself is very quiet, the community is only five minutes from Oceanside, with fresh seafood and homemade desserts at Roseanna's Cafe or Brewin' in the Wind.

Day trips from Cape Meares

Within twenty minutes, Tillamook offers all the dining and shopping options of a larger town, plus the ultimate rainy-day activity: touring and tasting at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Cape Meares makes a convenient home base for exploring the Oregon Coast, with a number of popular tourist destinations within an hour and a half's drive: Cannon Beach and Seaside to the north, and Pacific City and Lincoln City to the south. Portland is under two hours away, and Seattle can be reached within four and a half hours.

Close to the conveniences of "civilization" but offering a true sense of getting away from it all, a stay at one of our Cape Meares vacation rentals is unmatched for its combination of natural beauty and peacefulness on the Northern Oregon Coast.
