What an absolute gem in Cape Meares! The short walk to the beach was one of our favorite features - just a quick stroll and we were right on the pristine Oregon coastline. The location couldn't be more perfect, especially for catching those magnificent Pacific sunsets. From the main bedroom windows, we could see the waves crashing against the shoreline. Absolutely spectacular! The house itself exceeded all our expectations. The hot tub became our favorite evening ritual - there's something magical about soaking under the stars while listening to the ocean waves. The kitchen had everything we needed and the bed was incredibly comfortable. It also helped to be able to fall asleep to the sound of distant waves. So peaceful. Being just a quick drive from Tillamook was fantastic - we may have made too many trips to Lindsey's Lattes, but hey, that's what vacation is for :) If you're looking for the quintessential Oregon coast experience, this is it. The house offers that perfect blend of comfort and location that's hard to find. We're already planning our next stay - this place is truly special. Thank you for providing such a wonderful coastal retreat!

Shoreline Cottage was one of the most comfortable, well located and well stocked homes I’ve rented on the coast - and I’ve been renting since the early 1990s! The beach is just steps away and is always inviting - there are great sunrises and sunsets, and even full moon walks on the beach in the middle of the night! There is great hiking nearby and the Bayocean Peninsula provides several miles of beach and wooded area for walking. The house is very well stocked with pots and pans and baking materials. My only wishes were an electric kettle for tea, cooling rack for baking and a sieve for sifting. I baked a delicious pistachio cake from scratch and whipped up some fabulous whipped cream with the hand mixer. Be aware that the wood stove doesn’t have a damper but seems to regulate the air flow appropriately. Don’t forget some kindling as the kiln dried bundles sold at the local Fred Meyers doesn’t have starter pieces. Also, some newspaper would be helpful! The hot tub was fantastic - very clean and comfortable. The jets were not super strong but it was delightful relaxing after a long day of hiking. The view is fantastic. I haven’t had such a wonderful Oregon coast vacation ever! I’d definitely return to Shoreline Cottage!

The house was in a lovely spot with easy access to the beach. The house could have been cleaner and better equipped.

Things to do in Cape Meares

Without a doubt, the number one attraction near town is the Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint. The small but impressive park is home to both the shortest lighthouse and the most giant Sitka Spruce in Oregon, as well as some of the Coast's best views over the crashing Pacific Ocean. The viewpoints in the park are known as a prime whale-watching spot during migration season, and a favorite nesting ground for seabirds, including the common murre, bald eagle, and peregrine falcon.

On clear days, visitors might glimpse the tufted puffins and Steller sea lions who enjoy protected breeding grounds at the Three Arch Rocks Natural Wildlife Refuge to the southwest of Cape Meares. Many vacationers along the Oregon Coast pass through Cape Meares as they journey along the Three Capes Scenic Route, a 40-mile loop drive that meanders along the shoreline from Pacific City to Tillamook. Even on rainy days, when you might be tempted to hunker down in your cozy Cape Meares beach cottage, the well-marked path at Three Capes is worth an afternoon's exploration, showing off some of Oregon's most panoramic viewpoints in state parks at Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda.

Along the sandy beach of Cape Meares and in the surrounding parks, visitors can enjoy some of the best hiking, kayaking, kite-flying, crabbing, fishing, and birdwatching in the state. While Cape Meares itself is very quiet, the community is only five minutes from Oceanside, with fresh seafood and homemade desserts at Roseanna's Cafe or Brewin' in the Wind.

Day trips from Cape Meares

Within twenty minutes, Tillamook offers all the dining and shopping options of a larger town, plus the ultimate rainy-day activity: touring and tasting at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Cape Meares makes a convenient home base for exploring the Oregon Coast, with a number of popular tourist destinations within an hour and a half's drive: Cannon Beach and Seaside to the north, and Pacific City and Lincoln City to the south. Portland is under two hours away, and Seattle can be reached within four and a half hours.

Close to the conveniences of "civilization" but offering a true sense of getting away from it all, a stay at one of our Cape Meares vacation rentals is unmatched for its combination of natural beauty and peacefulness on the Northern Oregon Coast.
