Small-town charm is on full display in Newberg – and there’s no better way to experience it than with a stay in one of our Newberg vacation rentals! Cleanse your palate, clear your schedule, and get ready for exceptional wine tasting, downtown sightseeing, and plenty of rest and relaxation when you book a stay in one of our Newberg vacation rentals today!

Where is Newberg, OR?

Bordered by the Yamhill County towns of Sherwood to the north and Dundee to the south, Newberg is located in the North Willamette Valley. Just 35 miles southwest of Portland, Newberg is considered to be part of the Portland metropolitan area.

Things to Do in Newberg

In October and November, oenophiles descend on the area wineries to sample the regional bounty that includes locally-grown hazelnuts (also known as “filberts”), farm-fresh cheeses, and the main attraction: Pinot noir, pinot gris, syrahs, rosés, chardonnays, and a variety of other fine wines made from the local vineyard grapes!

While no visit to Newberg would be complete without a wine tasting tour - either on your own or with a local guide service like Cellar Door Wine Tours - the town offers plenty of other activities that aren’t limited to the 21 and over crowd. Explore hiking trails, ride the bike path, or drop a fishing line in the pond at the Champoeg State Park. Take a guided tour of the park and you’ll learn about the area’s early pioneer life.

Soar above the town on a family-friendly hot air balloon ride with Vista Balloon Adventures or weave through the clouds and spot local landmarks aboard a helicopter tour with Precious Helicopters Day Tours.

Like the autumn grapes in the hills above town, Newberg is ripe with rich history going back to the early 1800's. Tour the Hoover-Minthorn House museum to see how America’s thirty-first president Herbert Hoover lived from 1885 until 1891. Here, you’ll also learn about Hoover’s aunt and uncle, John and Laura Minthorn, who founded the Friends Pacific Academy which later became George Fox University. Visit state heritage sites like the Newell House, the Butteville General Store, and the Donald Manson Barn, all of which have been immaculately preserved.

Not to be missed, downtown Newberg offers a fascinating glimpse into the past with its variety of antique shops housed in turn-of-the-century buildings. If your vacation falls on a Wednesday between the months of May to September, make sure to stock up on fresh produce, dance to live entertainment, and pick up local handcrafted goods at the Newberg Farmers Market.

Day Trips from Newberg, OR

There are a number of adventures easily accessible from one of our Newberg vacation rentals! If you’re looking for a fun family-friendly outing, take an easy 16-mile drive south to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville. This museum is home to the Spruce Goose, the largest airplane ever constructed and a creation of the controversial aviator Howard Hughes. Both kids and adults will enjoy a hands-on tour of America’s aviation history, complete with full-sized airplanes of bygone eras, decommissioned missile silos, and immersive exhibits.

If you’ve come for the wine, you’ll be well-served with a huge variety to sample and buy at any of the area’s numerous wineries. With a glass in hand, toast to good times and gorgeous scenery atop the hill at Penner-Ash Wine Cellars. Known for its award-winning viogniers, pinot noirs, and house blends, this winery offers breathtaking views over Yamhill County’s rolling countryside with Mt. Hood looming on the horizon.

Sample more great local wines in the neighboring town of Dundee (just three miles south) or head 14 miles west to the Carlton Winemaker’s Studio to see the wine making process in action at this innovative, LEED-certified incubator for small-scale wineries.

With subtle notes of pastoral charm, a vibrant wine tasting culture, and bountiful seasonal harvests, a visit to the Northern Oregon wine country is best paired with a stay in one of our Newberg vacation rentals! Sample Newberg's flavorful bouquet of offerings when you book a trip today.
