Where is Salem, OR?

About 47 miles south of the city of Portland, Salem is in Oregon's scenic Willamette Valley - putting it in the heart of wine country. The winery destination of McMinnville is about 26 miles northwest, while the stunning trails and waterfalls at Silver Falls State Park are about 25 miles east. 

Activities in Salem, OR

Whether you're planning a tour of the capital or simply looking for a wine tasting retreat, you'll have lots of options in Salem. In the downtown area, enjoy lunch at one of the several popular pubs and breweries, then enjoy a stroll through the beautiful state buildings. 

Lush green lawns and tree-lined streets outline the capital buildings, complete with scenic architecture like the historic Supreme Court Building built in 1914. Visit one of the several local museums for more about Oregon's history, from the beautiful Bush House Museum inside an 1878 Victorian residence to the Hallie Ford Museum of Art downtown.

Oregon Wine Country

From Portland down to Eugene, the Willamette Valley features more than 400 renowned wineries. When you stay at a Salem vacation rental, you'll be right in the middle of it all. Visit a winery in town to taste a variety of options, or head out on a tour of all the nearby vineyards perched atop scenic rolling hills. 

Bethel Heights Vineyard grows its grapes on 103 acres in the Eola-Amity Hills, a windy area just north of Salem. If you're looking for something in town, visit Honeywood Winery in south central Salem. Established in 1933, Honeywood is the oldest producing winery in Oregon and offers amazing varietal, specialty, and premium fruit wines. 

For a fun day trip, head over to the charming wine country town of McMinnville for more well-known wineries. Visit the infamous McMenamins restaurant, then enjoy a stroll along the local shops in town - complete with plenty of wineries and tasting rooms, of course!
