Where is Baring, WA?

Our Baring cabins are certainly off the beaten path—as of the last census, the town’s population was only 233 people—but this remoteness comes hand-in-hand with beautiful, unspoiled nature. Travelers seeking solitude or an escape from everyday life return to Baring year after year, in winter and in summer, for its abundance of outdoor access. Only 23 miles west of Stevens Pass Ski Area, the town sits along a flat three-mile stretch of otherwise winding highway that locals have dubbed the “Baring Straight.”

Things to do in Baring, WA

Guests can spend their days hiking at the nearby Wallace Falls State Park and the surrounding wilderness, crossing many beautiful waterfalls and lakes. The Heybrook Lookout trailhead is a five-minute drive from Baring and offers a picturesque Washington setting: a short and relatively steep hike reveals a rustic wooden watchtower. Climb the treehouse-like steps to see incredible panoramas of the Cascade Mountains. The area around Baring is also a hub for swimming, whitewater rafting, and river floating. Birdwatchers will delight at the various local waterfowl that paddle by our homes. In the nearby town of Index, you’ll find some of the best granite rock climbing routes in the country. And in the winters, our Baring cabins are the perfect, cozy end to a day spent on the slopes at Stevens Pass.

While the town’s remoteness is certainly appealing, day trips to other, more populous areas are still an option. Baring is less than 60 miles from Seattle, and guests craving a day in the city take full advantage of this. Taste craft beer from any of the dozens of breweries—and be sure to pair it with the fresh-caught local seafood. Seattle also offers a buzzing art scene, with multiple museums and galleries, for a dose of culture. And of course be sure to check out the iconic Pike Place Market, which offers everything you could imagine: fruits and vegetables, poultry, seafood, eggs, flowers, and handmade crafts are only a handful of the samplings you’ll find.

Just over an hour from Baring, the Bavarian village of Leavenworth is definitely worth a visit. The Alpine-style buildings and German food and beer draw visitors any time of year. But the village truly comes alive at Christmastime, with an incredible lights display, carriage rides, and even a Nutcracker Museum.

Or maybe you’re dreaming of a getaway to totally disconnect from the world, playing board games, relaxing in your hot tub, and barbecuing. Whatever kind of vacation you’re in the mood for, we’re here to help. Take a look through our Baring cabins to find your perfect quaint mountain retreat.
