Tucked into a verdant valley in the shadow of majestic Mt. Baker, the small town of Deming offers ample opportunity to unplug and unwind. With prime access to Mt. Baker Ski Area and loads of all-seasons recreation in the nearby North Cascades National Park, it’s little wonder why this tiny town attracts large numbers of adventure-seeking visitors throughout the year.
Now you too can experience the blissful combination of laid-back living and exceptional outdoor offerings with front door access to all that northern Washington has to offer from one of our charming Deming vacation rentals.
Deming lies about 15 miles northeast of Bellingham and about 97 miles north of Seattle. Situated along the scenic, salmon and steelhead-filled Nooksack River, this rural town of just over 300 residents features sprawling farms and minimal development just beyond its main strip. It's also only 68 miles west of the entrance to wild and rugged North Cascades National Park, making the town a popular home base for park visitors.
If you love spending time outside, you’re going to love the outdoor options around Deming. In the spring, the town transforms from a sleepy hamlet into a full-on fly-fishing mecca with the arrival of avid fishermen seeking their next big catch. Bring your rods and tackle to cast a line into the fast-moving, often swelling waters of the Nooksack, where a healthy spring salmon run all but guarantees you’ll hook a 10 to 40 pound Chinook salmon on its voyage from the sea.
For summertime fun, lace up some sturdy hiking boots and head out into the surrounding wilderness areas. A good place to start is about 14 miles southwest at the Lake Whatcom Trail, which winds around the southeast side of the lake, giving way to panoramic views from the moss-covered forest. Bring along a kayak to explore the lake’s secluded inlets and pack a picnic to enjoy the lush scenery while eating at lakeside picnic tables. Once you make the trek back, you'll work up an appetite for a delicious homemade meal in your very own vacation rental.
Come winter, all eyes turn to snow sports 38 miles east at Mt. Baker Ski Area. Standing 10,775 feet tall, Mt. Baker looms above the surrounding peaks of the North Cascades and even holds the record for most snowfall in a single year: 95 feet, which fell in the 1998-1999 season. All that to say it’s a veritable winter wonderland where you can carve down steep slopes on 1000 acres of skiable terrain, strap into some snowshoes and head out on a guided hike, or rent snowmobiles to explore miles of powder-laden backcountry. Finish out your day with pints of local microbrews at the North Fork Brewery or glasses of acclaimed vintages at Mt. Baker Vineyards.
Whether you’re kicking back on the scenic Nooksack or toasting to good times with great friends, rest assured you’ll have a peaceful place to come home to when you book one of our Deming vacation rentals.
