The old capital of Belize, Belize City, has retained its historic charm over the years while being influenced by the unique culture of the Caribbean. The combination of old-school character and new-world appeal makes this city a truly remarkable destination - and our vacation homes are the best way to experience the wonder!
Belize City is situated at the mouth of the Haulover Creek, a tributary of the Belize River. Home to the country's main port, this area of more than 58,000 residents offers a fast-paced, adventurous lifestyle. Home to Belize's largest seaport and airport, this commercial capital offers easy access to nearby islands and towns - don't miss out on a visit to the stunning island of Caye Caulker.
Belize City boasts wonderful attractions for visitors, but if you want to experience the city like the locals do, you'll want to head over to Dangriga and Hopkins villages. Recognized as Brazil's culture capital, Dangriga is credited as being the birthplace of the punta rock genre - couched in urban glamor, you will leave this area with lasting memories of the sounds of drums and Garifuna solos. And if you're lucky, you'll get pulled into a spontaneous dance party, where you'll learn some of the beautiful rituals of Garifuna culture.
While they may be more of a popular tourist attraction than Dangriga Village, the Mayan ruins and temples are a must-see. Xunantunich, Caracol, Altun Ha, and Lubaantun are some of the best-known Mayan sites. You'll want to bring your camera along to document every fascinating inch - underground ritual chambers and phenomenal stone carvings and paintings are just a few of the wonders that await you here!
Belize is home to more than 200 islands, and Belize City is within a half-hour water-taxi ride to one of the best - Caye Caulker. Recognized for its small-town feel, the island doesn't skimp on awesome activities. Scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and bird watching are all popular activities, or you might hire a charter to go fishing. At night, head to the Lazy Lizard for a reggae concert at the Split.
Lighthouse Reef Atoll and Turneffe Islands Atoll are also a short trip from Belize City. Located beyond the reef, these picturesque islands feature relaxing water sports for the whole family. Island tour operators even offer daily and nightly snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and sailing.
