Wake up to the morning sun streaming through the windows, bring home some Maine blueberries and flip pancakes in the full kitchen (with a dishwasher), and enjoy breakfast with a view of the lake at the patio table on the screened-in porch.

Walk down to the private dock each afternoon to take a swim with your kids, sunbathe on the floating dock, or drop in your kayak for a paddle around the lake. Back at the house, you can read in the comfort of an Adirondack chair, play a board game or browse the free WiFi on the screened porch, or watch a bit of cable TV in the wood-paneled family room. And there's no better way to end the evening than by searing steaks on the gas grill, roasting s'mores around the outdoor firepit, and telling stories by the cozy fireplace,

Took a year off from Journeys End and regretted it. My group and I went back and as usual were pleased our stay. Private and good fishing, Vacasa also very informative with information.

Place is beautiful! Very serene. Large enough for 10+ to sleep. There are additional futons and couches
Although, at night the grounds are very dark.

Great lakeside house from the 20s lovingly restored and cared for. Plenty of rooms and bedrooms and updated kitchen and baths, beautiful views and grounds. Wonderful dock for boating, kayaking and swimming. Peaceful, quiet, perfect Maine retreat for friends getaway!

My family and I loved the house. The location seemed private with the little cove in front. The house was spacious. Lots of room for everyone. We enjoyed having s'mores over the firepit.
Great fishing for my 4 year old nephew off the dock.
The screened porch overlooking the lake was a plus.

We loved this lake front Victorian home from the minute we arrived from our 8 1/2 hour drive from Pennsylvania. It feels like you are stepping back in time when you drive between the stone pillars and enter the long driveway through the woods. We felt completely at home though With the fully equipped kitchen and updated bathrooms. It’s clear that the owners thought of everything one would need for a comfortable family retreat. We loved touring each unique bedroom with authentic appeal. The downstairs master suite was very convenient. We spent a lot of time playing games and talking on the screened in porch, and we appreciated the use of 2 kayaks on the property. We can’t wait to return next year!

We rented Journey's End for our daughter's wedding taking place at the YMCA camp in Winthrop. As we entered the home, my son turned to me and said "Mom, you did it again, this place is AMAZING!!" That seemed to be the term from everyone who came in throughout the weekend. The entire wedding party stayed with us Friday night and enjoyed "My big fat Greek Wedding" in one living room while I enjoyed a roaring fire in the second living room, going over my mental wedding checklist. My daughter contacted the photographer to change plans and arrival time and asked to have all her before pictures taken at the house. The photographer could not stop snapping pictures. My daughter was wearing a great aunt's dress from 1947 which fit right in with the older style of the house. I would not hesitate to recommend this rental to anyone. Walter the owner, was extremely accommodating as well. Although the house is secluded, you are minutes away from food and stores. Thank you for sharing this very special place with us.

Great property, been renting homes throughout the region and this is by far the best. Location on the lake is great with access to both the top and bottom basins. Home is large and kitchen is modern and well stocked. Fireplace was perfect way to unwind after being on lake. Walt (owner) made the entire renting process seamless from beginning to end. Fantastic trip.

Our family has been coming here each year for a long time. It is well supplied, clean, and spacious. Each year it is a little better than the year before. It is private and has the most beautiful view of the lake. Sunsets, no matter what the weather are spectacular. Winthrop is a cute little town with anything you may need as well as being a few minutes from Augusta. We love it and hope to continue our annual visits.

This is the third vacation home we have stayed in on Maranacook and the best by far. The home is large enough for our family of 8 ages 5-55 with room to spare. The kitchen is well equipped and the washer/dryer are nearly brand new and nice quality. The screened porch is huge! We had great luck fishing right off the dock and bank however the dock is a bit small for such a large home. Plenty of chairs for outdoor seating. We didn't use the fire pit as much as other homes, it is in the back of the house and not much level space for chairs. That did not stop us from enjoying everything else this home has to offer. The kayaks and row boat are in good shape and there are plenty of adult life jackets. We had a minor problem and the caretaker and owner were very responsive. The whole group agreed this was a great place to spend our week and we look forward to next year!

This place is magnificent. A true cottage in a gorgeous location! Well equipped and spacious kitchen, comfortable beds and lake views from the room, nice baths, hot showers, plenty of room to spread out, a game friendly dining table, a porch to watch the lake and listen to the birds, large property to wander around, and secluded lake location. We had a fantastic time. Didn't want to leave and we are all ready to go back. This place beckons back to a time gone by. Sit back and relax and just enjoy.

We needed a place for 5 siblings to be together under one roof again for our Dad after 30 years, The charm, the space, history, the location was perfect, We were all raised just 20 minutes away, so the place made us feel at home. All of our relatives and friends were able to drop by and reconnect with us. The house is well keep and easy to check in and feel right at home. For the 10 day stay, we watched the fall colors roll in and deer walk across the lawn. The owners were wonderful to work with, The caretaker was great too. He dropped by the first day to make sure things were what we expected. It turned out we had a friend in common and with that he offered the Maine hospitality of renting his boat for our entire stay. We were so impressed with our stay, we want to return again next year. Oh! There is a mystery about the house, What does the "O" on the weather vane chandler over the dining room mean? A must visit is the lobster pound in Manchester, Kennebec Chocolate Co. at the rotary in August to taste a Needham, or drive to Freeport(LLBean), drive to Camden seaport all with in a hour. Best thing to do is sit on the dock and listen to the Loons serenade each other across the lake. The sound of the Loon and the beauty of Journey's End will stay in your heart and mind forever. Even though I want to keep this place a secret, it is a must stay at place.

We just returned from a mini vacation with 2 other couples and I can’t say enough about Journey's End. The peaceful surroundings, amazing views of the lake, and abundance of fish and wildlife added to the old world charm of this wonderful cottage. The owners were great and very helpful with the arrangements! Hoping to return again next year.

Journey's End offered breath taking sunset views of the lake. We had a wonderful time cooking in the kitchen which had everything that we needed to make fabulous meals with room for more than one cook - we ate way too much! Lobster night was delicious! It was fun fishing from the dock and checking out some of the other lake houses from our kayaks. We loved lounging in the wooden sun room, reading about the history and intrigue of this lovely old Victorian lake house. We took side trips to Portland and Camden and visited a local brewery. We also visited some pottery shops and Antique shops. Some of our best memories were playing games out on the spacious screened in porch and laughing with our friends. It was fun being out there and hearing the loons at night. Best of all was floating around the clear lake water on inner-tubes and having the best vacation of our lives. Can't wait to come back again!!!

This house has a touch of elegance with just enough old school appeal to make you feel like you're in Maine. I went with a fishing group of three other guys and we had plenty of space for our two boats at the dock and also a good share of fish. The fishing at this lake is second to none in the area with minimal boat traffic. The house has that rustic appeal with the modern amenities to stay in touch with reality...only if you want to! I would strongly recommend this property as it ranks #1 on my list after visiting Maine for the past twenty years, just wish I found it much earlier (I will be back).
