Dog-friendly lakeside cabin with enclosed yard - fish right off your new deck

If it's time to take a break from the hustle and bustle, consider this two-level cottage situated right on the waters of the Alburgh Passage (on Lake Champlain) complete with a full kitchen, new deck, and enclosed grassy yard.

This spacious, three-bedroom rental is located near the tip of the Alburgh Tongue, a peninsula extending from Canada into Lake Champlain and accessible via U.S. Highway 2. Cast a line off the deck out back and fish for perch, pike, and bass or just kick back with a refreshing drink during the summer months and watch the boats drift past. If you'd like to explore the water up close, just head to the small private beach to relax!

This home blends plenty of rustic features with a number of recently updated, modern amenities to make for a wonderful, lakeside home away from home for the entire family.

The first of two distinct living spaces is located on the main level. This area boasts rich wooden walls and ceilings, a comfortable sofa and armchair, and access out to the furnished back deck. Alongside this, there's a dining table with seating for six and a well-equipped kitchen.

The kitchen is stocked with a variety of cookware and dinnerware as well as an array of essential appliances. During the summer, fire up the grill outside and enjoy a family cookout.

Upstairs, there's a second living area with high ceilings, walls of large windows overlooking the lake, a warming wood stove, sofa, and two fun glider chairs.

The bedrooms are all located adjacent to this space and include a master with a queen-size bed, one guest room with a double, and a third room with a twin and a second double bed. With three bedrooms, a double futon in the upstairs living room, and a full bath, this home sleeps up to 10 guests (9 comfortably). The family dog is also welcome to join you for an additional nightly fee.

This is a wonderfully peaceful retreat, so WiFi is not offered in this home. However, there is a selection of books as well as a TV with DVD player and media library in the upstairs living room to keep you entertained on rainy or snowy days. This home does come with a private washer/dryer, so you can leave those bulky, overstuffed suitcases at home and start each day of your vacation with fresh, clean clothes.

Those looking for some adventures in the great outdoors can head out on the water in a canoe or kayak or take a short drive (or even walk) into Alburgh Dunes State Park, a 625-acre property offering one of the longest beaches on Lake Champlain, ideal for swimming, as well as picnic facilities, fantastic fishing, and hiking trails. Or visit the historic town of Swanton, just 17 miles away, for shopping, dining, the R.R. Depot Museum, and the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge.

If you're looking for that perfect "get away from it all" destination, this lakeside home is ideal. Make your reservation with us today and start packing your bags!

*Please note: This cottage uses a lake water supply system. It is recommended that you bring drinking water. Also, lake level is not guaranteed. Thanks!

The house itself was amazing! Exactly what we wanted- old rustic camp built in the mid-1900s, but has been updated well with comfy beds, quilts, comforters, nice kitchen, TV, dvd player, games, etc. The beach and location in Alburgh were excellent as well! Plenty of parking, beautiful porch, and we loved the eastern facing sunrises, which made for cool evenings. The open air feel upstairs was one of my favorite parts- huge windows that completely open up!

The three big reasons I gave it 4 stars included:
1. Swimming sucked! The beach/dock were great, and OK for our boat that draws VERY little water, but our kids couldnt swim in the water! It was so weedy that it was disgusting. Made it very hard to enjoy the beach.
2. Water quality- on the welcome email and info packet, there was no mention of the water quality being so bad you couldnt drink it. It was brown in the tub and toilet! There was a water jug there, but when we called to have it replaced bc it was empty, they said it was not included. Luckily they did agree to replace it and we also bought our own waters, but I feel this was a big deal to not mention in advance.
3. The porch railing- we had two small kids ages 2 and 4. The porch railing is not a real railing, but is just some lattice attached to the posts. This in my opinion was a huge safety hazard bc it would not stop someone from failing over the edge onto the rocks/water below. It made me very uneasy being out there with my two little kids. Would be easy for them to put up a real railing since the posts are already in place. Not sure why they havent!

Overall I really loved our stay there, but there were a few things they could improve on- two are easy to fix (water disclosure and railing fix), the other is a bit tougher (weedy swimming area). That said, I would still go back since I loved the house so much and having our boat on the dock worked well for us!
Manager response:
We are sorry to see water levels were low for this guest's stay, and we sincerely apologize we missed adding a water disclosure to this listing. The lattice fence is not meant to be a restraint, but we will discuss the possibility of something stronger with the owner. Thank you!

Rustic. What we expected. Kids loved kayaking on the lake and biking right from the house. No air-conditioning but the nights were cool and comfortable. Hope to visit again. We did not want to leave.

It was pretty much what we expected. Lots of pros - the view, dock, fishing from the deck, comfortable beds, etc. Only a couple of cons - no water kettle that we could find, bugs (they were quite intense in the evening...but not biting).

I would recommend to visitors of the area.

A great Zen Cottage feel. Very well situated with great views. Already planning our next stay. A home away from home. Loved it.

Row boat would be good as were lots of weeds in front of camp so couldn't fish. Great supplies-kitchen appliances galore...little buggy in bathroom-knats come in bathroom at night....wonderful and helpful staff...convenience store with everything you need 10 mins away.

This property was exactly what we had hoped for. It felt like an authentic lake house. Good location, plenty of space, quiet setting, and all the amenities to make us comfortable. The property manager was very helpful and got us oriented the first night when we arrived. Convenient to a great nearby store approx. a mile away too for the necessities. Right on the water and dog-friendly, this property made for a great long weekend.

This area of VT is absolutely gorgeous! Such a hidden gem and the views driving up from Burlington were amazing! The house is super cute- we enjoyed lounging around the deck, using the outdoor shower, and hanging out in the upstairs living room. The amenities outside are great- we used the grill, took advantage of the kayak/inner tubes, made a fire, and enjoyed the zero gravity chairs! I hope to come back one day.

There are 2 cons of the house:
1) The water right off the dock has a lot of grass/seaweed/algea. If you take the kayak/tubes past the initial grass it gets better...we did that and went swimming in the water since it was 85 degrees in September!
2) There are tiny flies that make their way in from the ceiling of the bathroom. They don't bite but there are a lot of them. So just understand that this place has a lot of rustic charm and you have to deal with that.

What a perfect getaway! 7 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs had more than enough room when we stayed here. Waking up in the morning to watch the sunrise over the lake was amazing. The kids and the dogs loved being lakeside and all the amenities you could ever need this house provided. Have been raving to all our friends and family about how they need to stay here.

Best part about this cottage is that it sits directly next to the lake; so close in fact that you can fish directly off the deck. My 2 sons caught some nice bass and bowfin from the deck. Although the cottage is directly adjacent to a paved road, the fence along the perimeter of the property affords good privacy. This is a nice cottage in a lovely location. We appreciated the 1 kayak that is provided as well as the tubes for floating.

If you're looking for great fishing and a comfortable stay, this is the place to go. Loved the upstairs living room. Open the big windows and relax. The master bedroom has plenty of windows and sleeps very well. Loved this place. Would rent it again. Stayed here with my wife on our 25th anniversary and we loved it. It's rustic in a rural area but that's part of the experience.
