Numerous walking and biking trails abound and the historic Portland Observatory offers a chance to admire the stars. Catch a lobster on a historic windjammer and tour the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, home of literary giant Henry Wadsworth Longfellow...and don't forget to end your day with a locally-brewed pint or two in one of the excellent breweries that give the other Portland a run for their money!

The Maine Highlands feature the 200,000-acre Baxter State Park, the end of the Appalachian Trail, as well as 50 waterfalls around Moosehead Lake, a famously dog-friendly vacation spot.
