Dog-friendly lakefront home w/ convenient location & private deck!
This lakefront, secluded, quietly rustic Florence vacation rental is a great place to unplug and relax while taking in the spectacular views of Mercer Lake. Bring the whole family to enjoy a restful trip away from the worries of daily life from the comfort of your own deck and private dock on the lake.
Your vacation home is five miles northeast of town, in a heavily forested area right on the edge of Mercer Lake, so you won't hear the highway or any of the noises of the bustling small town of Florence. The lake is just a few steps from your house, but within a 15-minute drive are a myriad of other great places to visit, including Old Town Florence, the beach, Heceta Head lighthouse, and some of the best sand dunes in the state.
The owners of this house have lovingly decorated it with a nautical theme and seaside colors, so you will surely feel at home here.
When you drive to this home, especially through the mile or so of dirt road, you will be amazed how beautiful the area is. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom house has enough beds to sleep nine people, though the loft would be a great space for a few extra children as long as they bring sleeping bags. Two dogs are also welcome, though a nightly fee per dog and minimum fee per stay will apply and all dogs must be kept on leashes when outside the home.
On the main floor, the upper level, walk through the cozy and bright living room and choose your favorite seat to watch the lake. This room is a great place to sit and chat with your guests and enjoy the view. Because this house has no TV (though it does have Wifi and a telephone), it is a great place to take a group of people and enjoy a few days without all the electronic devices we spend so much time with. Grab a board game or book off the shelf, or bring along some of your own favorites, and spend an evening appreciating each others' company!
Just past the living area is a dining table that overlooks the lake, as well as a full kitchen. This kitchen has a stove, oven, microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, and various pans and dishes, so you will have everything you may need to cook up a nice meal. You could even go fishing in the lake or nearby Siuslaw River, clamming during low tide, or crabbing off the South Jetty, and cook up a fresh seafood dinner in the kitchen!
Also on the main floor is a full bathroom, a bedroom with a full-size bed, and another sleeping area with a queen-size bed. A loft, accessible with a sturdy wood ladder, provides a great place for children to play games or have a campout in their sleeping bags at night.
The lower level of this home has another full bathroom and a washer and dryer, so you won't have to worry about getting your clothes wet and sandy at the beach. You will also find a large bedroom with a queen-size bed and a twin-over-queen bunk bed, making this a quiet and comfortable place to sleep after a day spent outside breathing in the fresh air.
Just outside both levels of this house is a gorgeous private deck! The upper deck is ideal for sitting and watching the sun reflect off the lake, and you could even bring lunch outside and eat on the picnic table while listening to the breeze rustle through the fir trees. The lower deck opens to the grassy yard, where you will find a firepit for you to use.
Walk down a few stairs to reach your private dock - great place to go swimming or paddle around the lake! Mercer Lake is very quiet and a safe place to swim, so fans of the water will love it here. Even if you don't love swimming, just being near this gorgeous lake and breathing the fresh air will clear your head and leave you feeling at ease.
When you're ready to visit the attractions near Florence, you have many options waiting for you. For people who prefer to be more active, there are two fantastic golf courses, numerous lakes and the Siuslaw River to use for boating and fishing, hiking trails, and amazing sand dunes. Just five minutes south of town you can go on an amazingly fun sand rail tour of the dunes.
Those who are less fond of being active on a vacation will also find plenty to do. The beach is always alluring, and North Jetty is a great area for an easy stroll. Be sure to leave energy to walk along Bay Street, where there are fabulous restaurants, shops, a boardwalk along the river, and a weekend farmers market during the warmer months.
Although Florence isn't famous for its nightlife, the Three Rivers Casino is a fantastic place to spend a few hours. If you visit toward the end of May, the Rhododendron Festival will be in full swing, which means a carnival, car show, parades, kite festival, and blooming rhododendrons everywhere in town.
If a restful vacation to a charming coastal town is just what you need, this gorgeous lakefront Central Coast vacation rental is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty and serenity of nature.
*Please note: A maximum of three vehicles may park in the designated area for the household. Trailers, RVs, and boat trailers cannot access this home, and vehicles without AWD are not recommended. There wasn't anything I didn't like about this home. The view was stunning, the home was clean, the beds weren't the best but they weren't the worst either. It was everything we had hoped for and much more. I hope to rent this home again come summer time😍
This is our dream lake house. The lake gives a perfect view from the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. The cabin has all essentials stored in; we even enjoyed a few board games when at home. It's was perfect, disconnected from the outside world, but still, be connected when required ( Internet and phone service were always available).
We enjoyed our vacation and can't wait to visit again in summer.
While it could use some general upkeep and maintenance the comfort and ambiance of the house more than made up for it. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay! The road in was not grand, but in dry weather it also was not horrible!
Has not been redone since the 90’s. Dark and gloomy, even though it was sunny. Poison ivy everywhere. Scary notices on the fridge to boil all water before drinking. Property cleaned poorly, beercans etc in garden. Neighbours had loud music on, other neighbours are pretty noisy on the lake with their speedboats. We left early.
We reserved this home to spend time with family. They canceled on us at last minute, Thought it was going to be kind of awkward and boring Just my Husband 3 kids and I.
BUT.....It was amazing Weather could not be better,
Kids LOVED the lake They were in the water from sunrise to sunset. They managed to use the canoe with improvised paddles =-D (couldn't find them) .
I read the reviews and to tell you the truth I was nervous about the so called Neighbor, and the Dirt road.
Did not see the Neighbor at all and the Road was not that bad,
**House had everything needed for a great time
(even Coffee) **
As soon as we got home. Kids were begging to reserve the house again. <3 <3
We loved our stay on the lake! The house was perfect for our family and we enjoyed a lot of quality time on the lake. We were glad our rental car was an SUV because the road leading to the house was a little intense, but once you reach the house it's well worth it and easy to get back in to town for dinner/activities/etc
It was inferred in the description of the property that two kayaks would be included with our stay which is the main reason we rented this property. No kayaks. There were no chairs to sit on on the top deck so we had to drag a couple of them from downstairs. Directions to the house were pretty accurate until we got to the end. There were no specific directions to turn left or right at the very end.
If you're wanting a super remote stay with quiet, secluded lake access, this is the spot for you! The view was absolutely stunning. Wish it had been warmer when we were there so we could go in the lake. Oh well, next time.
The staff accommodated us for early check in. Greatly appreciated. However home was not in good shape. Garbage scattered all over outside. Storm door broken. Window screen broken. Deck was littered with sticks and debri. Downstaires bed smelled of urine. When I called and complained, they had it addressed within hour (other than stinky mattress).
We apologize for the issues the guest experienced upon arrival and appreciate their patience as we rectified matters. The Property Manager has not noticed any odor with the mattress and has found the mattress and bedding to all be stain free and clean.
We stayed at this house based on reviews we read. The pictures are exactly what the house looked like. Very relaxing. We made sure to stay away from neighbors boundary line and his drive way. The deck has gates so our dogs quickly learned their boundaries. Very clean and kitchen was fully stocked with any utensils and pans we needed. The guys fished every day. Fishing wasn't great, but that may have been due to time of year. We hope the next quests have as much fun family time as we did.
This was a great house for multi-generation vacation. The dock was close and could be seen from the windows. There is lots to do in the area. It was a great house to sit, relax, play games with the grandkids. We had an awesome time, even in the rain.
The one negative is the stairs. First there are quite a few even to get into the house. also, there is only an outside staircase connecting the two floors. In Oregon this is a definite disadvantage with all the rain.
We enjoyed the house. There was lots of space for people to gather and do things together, and also for others to get away when they wanted.
We very much enjoyed the location of this little cottage. We found it well stocked and comfortable. The mattresses need to be soon replaced but other than that it is a nice little weekend getaway. The next door neighbor is very tired of having renters so suggest you be cognizant of his need for privacy! We appreciate you letting us bring our dogs. I don't agree with the need for four wheel drive but it can be a long muddy drive in..
This cabin is located at the end of a 1.7 mile dirt road - definitely accessible to 4x4's or AWD vehicles ONLY. I strongly recommend arriving at your cabin during the daylight hours as the cabin is situated in an extremely secluded area. There is ample parking for 2-3 cars, but if you bring 3 cars, all three cars would need to be compact cars with AWD. The parking area is located at the end single lane road (aka driveway) so turning around is somewhat of a challenge, but, it CAN be done WITHOUT using the neighbor's driveway. The cabin rate is well priced and it met our basic needs. There is an upper level (with kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room - with a bed in what was probably meant to be a dining room) and there is a lower level (not accessible except by the outdoor stairwell) with 3 more beds and a combo bathroom/laundry facility. There is a fire pit in the back yard and there is a private dock. Fishing for blue gill, bass and perch off the dock is very productive. There is a brand new BBQ with side burner on the top deck. Wi-fi is free but the speed is somewhat slow - our streaming was interrupted with several episodes of buffering. We had NO cell phone coverage with Verizon so be sure to enable your wi-fi calling prior to your stay for emergency calling purposes. Regarding the one and only neighbor, we found them to be very nice people. We respected their space and honored the quiet times of 10pm to 7am and they appreciated that. I'm sure when they purchased their property all those years ago, they expected to have only one neighbor, the rustic cabin owner. But, because this is now a VACASA rental, they see probably 30+ new neighbors every year. My best recommendation is to be respectful of them and their privacy and you won't have anything to worry about.
Almost want to keep this place a secret!! Perfect getaway to unwind!!!!
We recently stayed at this very cute rustic cabin and we enjoyed the location the view and the amenities. We like that we could stay at the cabin and have a secluded retreat or go into Florence and enjoy some of the attractions locally .
There were only two of us, so we could really spread out. The views from the inside of the house are wonderful, in case you can't get out with bad weather. The cabin was clean and well stocked for cooking. The beds were ok and all the other furnishings were comfortable. We didn't have any trouble on the dirt road, but we did make a few false turns finding the place. I can't believe anyone was able to get that heavy canoe down to the dock and back, but people did, I saw pictures! I saw only one life jacket. We learned how to do absolutely nothing and it was good. We would like to return some day.
***4wd is ABSOLUTELY necessary if there is any chance of rain. Otherwise, in dry conditions a 2wd car will still most likely get stuck***
The house way so charming and lovely. It felt like our own lakehouse and definitely see coming back to regularly. Canoeing around the lake was relaxing. One of the most memorable parts was sitting on the deck drinking coffee and tea in the morning while listening to the water and the birds. Not too far away to grab groceries or go on a VERY recommended trip to the hobbit trail to the beach, but far enough to be secluded from the bustle of life.
Nicely tucked away place, we all really enjoyed our stay. This house is on its own little cove, making for a nice swimming area out of the way of the numerous jet skis and speed boats. We caught many little perch and blue gills!
The house is outdated but it was quiet and clean. There's lots of fun things for kids (games, canoe, loft) I would definitely stay here again
DO NOT RENT if you have any allergies to dust, must, and mold. This property is so moldy and musty that it's impossible to breath without keeping windows and doors open at all times. A particular problem with cool weather. Several of us who don't have allergies to begin with, would wake up with allergies, swollen eyes, stuffy nose etc from the musty rooms.
BEDDING IS HORRIBLE! There were 7 guests and we all rotated beds for 3 nights hoping we'd all find a better fit. The beds were literally so bad that we had people sleeping on sofas, sofa chairs, a cot and on the floor instead. We even undid the bedding to check if they were actual mattresses! We are very disappointed with the bad back sleeping conditions since we were paying for them
Bad: In addition to the musty mold, and the horrid bedding.....there is no
recycling available so we had to take it with us when we left. The fire pit is awful, the deck had a huge tree branch across it so difficult and dangerous to get down it, the directions to the place were not clear and we got lost twice.
Good: Lovely location and view. Kitchen had plenty of utensils etc.
We are very sorry to see that this guest did not have a better stay. The Property Manager and housekeeping will inspect the home for mold and mildew.
You really can't beat the lake view, private dock, deck, firepit, canoe, private yard, and two story cabin ready for fun. We had such an incredible week and can't wait to come back!
BUT I have to mention a few things so other travelers are prepared. NO cell service or house phone. There was a phone in a drawer but I plugged it in and there was no dial tone. Sort of scary if anybody had to call 911. As it was, we got by with the wifi (very slow, but it worked okay for facebook and finding maps).
First, the road. I can't give enough warning for it. I read another review that said to arrive in the day time, so we did. But it wasn't just the issue of finding the road. It's incredibly narrow and there are SEVERAL areas where the road has broken off or there are large rocks (spray painted orange for safety??). Also, the potholes were rocking our large, full size suburban like it was a roller skate. I just can't give enough of a warning about it. Many places you can look over the tiny, broken road and see down the hill into the lake. One bad move and you're swimming. The last night it started to rain and I decided to pack up and leave ASAP rather than risk navigating that road in the mud. During the week we met other cars several times on Rustic Lane and had to BACK UP for 1/4 mile or more until we could pull off and let the other past. Craziness.
Several reviews warned to stay out of the neighbor's driveway and the house instructions also mention not going near the shared driveway space. What it doesn't mention is that there is NO other place to turn around. It took me several minutes (with someone outside directing me) each time to wrangle the car around without getting near his property. What a hassle. I'd suggest you bring a small car (like those electric ones) except it would never make it down the badly kept road.
Also, there are critters in the attic. My kids were thrilled to sleep up in the loft but came down in the night, scared to bits because something was scratching and fighting in the walls. :D
Oh, and the canoe has a crack in the seat so as you row into the lake, the water splashes up onto your rear. Very refreshing, haha.
Also, it said garbage pick up would happen after our stay had ended, but if we needed a pick up sooner, to call. I tried to call when we drove into Florence (no cell service at the cabin, no house phone) and never got an answer. We were 8 people for 7 days and the little garbage can was too small to hold out trash. We ended up putting recyclables outside in bags,
So, those are the lowlights. I'm giving the place 4 stars because it was clean, lots of pots/pans (we actually left a few of our own, sadly), incredible view, comfy beds, lots of space, games, nice bathrooms, etc. The lake... just beautiful. It was the best view I've had with a rental. If it had an actual road, I'd want to live there all the time. As it is, I was sort of glad to leave because the drive in and out was so scary.
Thank you so much for letting us know about your stay! It’s great to hear that you all enjoyed the great things this home has to offer. We appreciate the feedback of your concerns, as we take these very seriously. Because of the location of the home, there is limited cell phone reception. We are currently working with the homeowner to see if getting a landline to the property is possible, so check back for updates in regards to this. Another thing to keep in mind is that the road to the home is a dirt road, but it has been graded and all of the ruts have been filled. We hope these changes will help your decision to come back to the home that much easier!
The view is great. We had our privacy. There was a kayak with a broken paddle that we used to sail on the lake. There is a shared driveway with the neighbour. There is no way that you can get out of there without backing up a couple of feet in neighbor's driveway. We took off at 2:30AM and were very quiet but the neighbor came out in his boxers and told us not to back up into his driveway. sheets and pillows were smelly. I would recommend trying this place but keep in mind things I mentioned.
This is the perfect location for those looking to get away from technology as we all know it today. There is no cell service, no internet, no television, and no telephone. It is beyond peaceful. The view is priceless. It is really close to another house but, he didn't bother us or even say hello when we saw him. At night it was very dark which made for great star watching. We had a great time overall. Again, if you are someone that relies on technology, this isn't the place for you :-)
The place is a little rough around the edges, but was very clean and comfortable. Would be great in the summer so you could use the deck and be outside. The family room area only has only a love seat and two chairs so seating is not the best we had 5 adults and 2 children. And from the pictures I couldn't tell that the room with the bunk beds and queen bed is downstairs ( you have to go outside) to get too. Not a huge deal, but we were planning on children and grandma sleeping here. This was difficult with steep stairs in the rain and dark at night. Also the place only really has one bedroom that has a door and closet. The king size bed is just to the side of the family room, so in the morning if you go out to the kitchen/ family room whoever is in that bed is woke up. Also the road to get to the place is a curvy dirt road with a lot of damage from the rain. We actually got stuck in the road and had to call a tow truck but a 4x4 or SUV wouldn't have a problem, we have a jetta wagon. But over all was a nice getaway.
Good fun cute house but bad access NO TRAILERS WHATSOEVER no trailer turn around
The neighbor was rude and wanted to know purpose of our stay.
Thank you for sharing your review. We are so sorry to hear that the neighbor was rude to you! We hope that you were still able to enjoy all that this incredible home and area has to offer.
Enjoyed our trip to Oregon. I plan on booking again in the summer so we can use the dock and lake more as well as the grounds. Would say you should be more detailed on the rustic road to the cottage. It is nice place to get out of the rat race and just be.
The lake is absolutely lovely, and the cabin is pretty secluded and quiet. There is a canoe that we took out on the lake a few times which was fun. The cabin is quirky because one of the bedrooms has blinds in place of a wall and a door, also a loft with a big wooden ladder, and to get between the two floors you have to go outside and down the stairs from the deck. Also it is a bit outdated and dingy, but clean. But overall spacious enough for 9 people with room to spare. It is very quiet and secluded, and overall I liked it.
Here are my gripes that I wish I would have been aware of before going (though I would stay again.)
There is absolutely no cell service at the cabin or anywhere on the 10 minute drive to the cabin from Hwy 101, though the cabin has wi-fi. We ran out of propane after having the grill going for just a few minutes, and there was no extra tank and the cabin phone wasn't working to call vacasa. I worried about the safety issues of having no way to call for help if needed, but luckily the worst thing that happened was running out of propane. We had to drive 10 minutes into town to get cell service to call vacasa, and then there was no answer like 5 or 6 times until we got a person on the phone. They stated that they would "of course" reimburse us for refilling the propane tank (which would have been nice to know since we left it at the cabin) but they also said that they would try to get the local staff to bring out a filled tank, which they did in a few hours. Oh also, the only neighbor that shares the driveway with this cabin is a very angry man who came over to chew us out for being parked a foot past the "visitors" sign and for using his part of the driveway to turn around in (which is the only way to get out of the steep driveway.) So watch out for the grumpy neighbor!
The property is in an excellent location on Mercer Lake with privacy. However, the house needs the floors replaced and it was strange you had to go outside to get from floor to floor. However, we spent most of the time at the lake and the dunes so it did not matter.....
This was a fabulous place to stay. The access to Mercer Lake was incredible. The property is beautiful. Thanks for being pet friendly.
The staff at Vacasa were extremely helpful in helping find a place that was in a quiet area with a water view and pet friendly.
Thanks so much.
