Recent Cabo Matapalo guest reviews

There are not enough positive words we can say about this place. It was truly an astonishing, incredible and unforgettable experience. We intended to go on a guided tour into the national park via the sirena ranger station before we arrived, but there was no need as all the wildlife you could ever hope for was right there on your doorstep. We saw 3 out of the 4 species of monkey native to Costa Rica including the Capuchin, Howler and spider monkey, we saw pelicans flying along the beach, Macaw Parrots, Pigs, Coati, Agouti and numerous birds and insects. Joel the host and owner is amazing, he couldn't help us enough and even treated us to a personal guided walk through the rainforest in a secret location very close by. We never return to the same location as there is alot of the world we have on our travel list, but this is the first time that we are considering going back. If you like being as close to nature as possible while having your creature comforts this is the place for you. There are no walls to the treehouse which means you are always at one with nature, it is truly magical. A wonderful place to stay for my 40th birthday. A word of warning, you must hire a 4x4 vehicle with a good amount of clearance. Our vehicle was a Mitsubishi ASX which was JUST high enough. It was good fun getting there but would of been even more enjoyable if we got a better off roader. Stock up at supermarket at Puerto Jimenez and fuel up before you leave. Thank you again Joel. All prior reviews were accurate. This place absolutely made our family trip to CR one to remember. Joel and his amazing family made us feel right at home from the beginning, spending time with us, helping us make tour reservations, showing us local beaches and the beautiful King Louis catarata, and even sharing some homemade food. The home itself is truly one of a kind, with no detail left unaddressed. Although the immediate beach is not swimmable, there are swimmable beaches within walking distance. Highly recommend not just a 4x4 but one higher off the ground given the challenging - but still part of the whole adventure - road to access the compound.

This home is superb. You live at home with nature in the place. Every morning and evening a troupe of Capuchin monkeys would travel past (and through) the house. Three tiny, beautiful bats lived in the thatched roof and at night would help keep the house mosquito free. The bed was super comfy. The stove was great for cooking meals. Each morning the howler monkeys would be our alarm, followed by the scarlet macaws then the toucans. We LOVED this house so much. Note: you need a high clearance 4WD to get to the house. The instructions to find the house are very confusing. To make it easier, just follow the road to the very end (it's much further than the instructions suggest). At that point you've gone too far. Turn around and when the road turns left and starts climbing an hill, the driveway to Casa Contiki is on the left as you go up the hill. There is no sign that we could find.
