Rustic and serene cabin w/ great home essentials, close to skiing!
Come experience the beautiful union of sustainability and craftsmanship in this eco-friendly Government Camp vacation rental lodge. True to its pedigree as the first restaurant in Government Camp, it has been lovingly repurposed using up-cycled and locally sourced woods, dedicated now to serving as your own private mountain refuge. Wonderfully equipped for large groups with two living areas, a large dining hall, and amenities like Netflix and free WiFi, you'll also have easy access to all the seasonal activities - hiking, fishing, skiing - that come with the natural beauty and abundance of the Mount Hood region.
Step into the living area where the pale, knotted wood walls, wood floors, and hand-crafted furniture (locally sourced from Sustainable Northwest Woods) envelopes you in an atmosphere that's classic lodge. After a stroll into town and a visit to the local shops and general store, come back to the comfort of your own private Government Camp lodge and relax before dinner. If it's chilly, flip on the gas fireplace, reminiscent (yet more efficient) of an old stove. The big shovel, barrel, and wall-mounted sled add to the charming, rustic decor.
A big group has a big appetite, and this large, fully equipped kitchen is up to the task of satisfying it! Yes, you could sit down at one of the eateries in colorful Government Camp serving everything from shepherd's pie to prime rib, but you needn't bother. Your designated chefs will have everything they need to create a hearty meal any time of day. From the new gas stove, to the big fridge, microwave, and voluminous counter space, this kitchen is the perfect combination of beauty and efficiency. When the meal's done, serve it up at the long table by the window with room for 10. Clean ups will be a breeze with the dishwasher. (And, bring along some of your favorite beans for the coffee grinder!)
With its four bedrooms and loft, this spacious Government Camp vacation rental lodge strikes just the right balance between comfort and size. You'll enjoy the exquisite feel of high-end, organic linen sheets and duvet, and you'll sleep on beds locally crafted by Cotton Cloud (note that the mattresses on these custom, hand-made beds are a little firmer than most, and without a box spring). The wood-lined character of the lodge continues in two bedrooms on the main floor, one with a queen bed, the other a twin bunk. There's a tastefully decorated, full bathroom with a walk-in shower on this level as well.
Hold the rough-hewn banister securely as you make your way to the upper level. Up here, you'll find a bedroom with a comfy queen bed and a big dresser. Step into the second bedroom and you'll find two twin bunks. There's fun up on the upper level as well! Relax in the second living area where you can listen to a CD, watch a DVD, or just settle in with a book or magazine. There's room for more on the futons in the loft, bringing the total to 12. This home has two full bathrooms.
From this roomy and rustic Government Camp vacation rental, you'll enjoy mountain views and vistas of the ski slopes in the distance. And speaking of skiing, winter is premier in Government Camp, offering you a number of venues to test your skills. Skibowl and Summit Meadows are right in town. Trek up beautiful Glade Trail to Timblerline where you can also visit the iconic Timberline Lodge. Head southeast around the other side of Mount Hood (about a half-hour's drive) to Mount Hood Meadows.
In summer, Government Camp is a perfect gateway for hiking and biking, with 25 trails. The Salmon and Sandy rivers are close by, so that means great fishing. And golfers: tee up at Foxglove, about 15 minutes away.
No matter when you come, this rustic and eco-friendly Government Camp vacation rental lodge is waiting to make your stay comfortable and memorable, offering a doorway to all the great sites and activities in the Mount Hood area!

We really enjoyed staying here, The kitchen was well equipped and it was very clean. All the electronics worked and the nook upstairs for movie watching was great. Thank you!
Great spot for families. The location can't be beat and the downstairs living area is a perfect spot for large groups to gather, cook, eat and play games. Cozy, rustic and fun.
Rustic as expected, yet very comfortable with only a few minor problems. Futon beds are good. Temperature inside was comfy both day and night despite freezing nights.
We have stayed there twice with our kids and grandkids. There is lots of room and space for everyone. The main room is amazing, with a wall of big windows that look out on the village and snow! There is a huge long table there that goes along the windows, that makes an awesome space for doing crafts together, playing games, or just everyone hanging out. The kitchen is really nice with lots of dishes and cookware, gas stove and granite counters. You can walk to town in less than a block. The house makes you feel like you are kind of stepping back in time, with all knotty pine floors and walls. A wonderful gas fireplace is cozy and warm, with glass all around it so you can see the fire from 3 sides. The couches sit around it, which is a cozy place to hang out too. Upstairs there is a nook with double bed that the kids love to hang out in and play. The price was reasonable for during the week- it was really high on weekends and Christmas break. We may make this a family tradition. There was enough snow for kids to sled every day, and across the street there is a trail through the woods with a cool bridge that goes over a creek. It took us about 10 minutes to get up to Timberline, which was awesome! If you like a rustic feel of a cabin, lots of space, and lots of windows and light, this house is amazing!
Perfect base camp for an adventure in the woods! Cozy common area to prep gear, chat with friends/family, and separate quarters if you need to escape for some "quite time", too!
This cabin has a great location right in downtown Government Camp that makes it really convenient. It has a great cabin-y feel and an open living/dining area for a group. The beds however are rock hard and I'm pretty sure the pillows are also vintage. Would def recommend bringing your own!
This was a good location if you like to be right in town. There is a lot going on there but it's nice to be close to everything. The unit was cabin-like and well used but still nice. Parking was ample. We are disappointed that the cleaners were still there when we were supposed to check in. They were an hour late and we had people standing around waiting to bring stuff in. Apparently there was a mix-up with the cleaning staff.
We apologize for the hiccup with housekeeping and appreciate this guest's patience in the matter. Thank you!
The house looked exactly like the pictures. The skateboarders were in front of the house every night and dogs often barked. The camp next door had a loud dodgeball game which prevented the kids from sleeping before 9 (kids had to get up at 5am for skiing daily). The house itself was great though.
Great location and house but when we arrived, we learned there was no gas! That meant we couldn't use the gas powered fireplace or stove. The propane tank for the house wasn't filled and maintained properly. We checked in on a Saturday and left on Tuesday and they couldn't get the tank filled the entire time we were there. We spent the whole vacation trying to cook every meal for our extended family in one tiny microwave. If you rent this house in the winter, be prepared to eat out for ever meal because the kitchen wasn't functional.
We are very sorry the gas company was unable to come at their scheduled time due to snow in the area. This has been taken care of, and the guest has been refunded for the extreme inconvenience.
Hands down great location and super spacious! Especially for two families equally to ten! The kids were able to entertain themselves upstairs while the adults were able to make dinner and have a couple drinks. :) Loads of space for everyone and nice walk to restaurants, coffee, and groceries!
This house is big and had enough room for everybody! We only stayed for 2 days but the tv and DVD didn't work but that was fine for us. It is the perfect location to walk to the shops and general store! It is walking distance to take your kids to cosmic tubing!
Amazing location and wonderful views. Everything else about the house was below average, old, broken, dirty, moldy, etc. Our family actually were confused how this cabin had such good reviews prior to our stay. Coffee pots broken, stove burners out, bad burnt smell when we cooked, very low water pressure in shower, mild in bathrooms, mouse poop in upper bathroom, no central heat. List goes on
We are sorry to see that this stay was not more enjoyable. The fireplace is the main source of heat for this home, and there are cadet heaters in the bedrooms. There is a new coffeepot in the home and the stove has been inspected. Water pressure in the area does sometimes fall, but for the most part is steady and reliable throughout the year. The mice issue has been addressed, and the Property Manager is continually working on making this home a comfortable place to stay.
Lovely rustic home to bring family together. Dining table is superb for large group. Well stocked kitchen.
Comfortable for sleeping but not to lounge around. Not enough furniture in living space. Loved the location. Folks at General Store were exceedingly friendly. Ratskeller was good place for pizza.
What a neat little house. Lots of cozy corners to nest in and a great, well stocked kitchen and big table to eat at. It is located right in the heart of Government Camp, downtown proper, so no private yard, or outdoor space to sit, which would have been my preference, but so convenient for people visiting, it's walking distance to restaurants, bars, grocery store skiing, etc.
It was very cozy and nice inside.
WE had some maintenance issues, which I understand happens, but no hot water in the kitchen made it really tough to do dishes, and a leak from upstairs to down stairs, was troubling, just from a property owners perspective.
The hot water has been taken care of and no leaks have been found. Thanks!
Would definitely stay again! Walkable to everything you need--general store, restaurants, bars, etc.
The house was easy to locate and it was clean
If you have over eight individuals that want to sleep in separate beds bring sleeping bags as there is not enough bedding to cover over eight people.
Beautiful building, interiors and location. We had a wonderful snowy time celebrating my birthday with family and friends. Note: if you have young kids there talk about the bedroom deadbolts BEFORE your 6 year old locks herself in and you spend an increasingly tense 20 minutes talking her through unlocking them. Also make sure you know where the flashlight is before the power goes off for and lower window blankets as soon as it shuts down. The Vacasa guys were helpful with the power situation, but a good chunk of government camp was without power for about 6 hours. We had a one candle sing a long and went to bed early. Will come back for sure.
This cabin is rustic and warm, just what we were looking for. It's tastefully and creatively decorated and has lots of bunk beds. Super close to the village and store.
Stayed here with my mother and aunt and had a great time. Wasn't expecting it to be so big and in truth would be great for large groups.
The place was great. I arrived late Thursday, in the sleet, thought the sand bar in front of the house was a turn around and my car got stuck. I'm guessing had it been dry and I wasn't in a rental, I would have been fine. The tow truck came and everything was fine. I got stuck about 9, tow truck at 10, save those noises, there was no carrying on or disruption. The neighbors on the porch above came out and proceeded to swear at me and my 7 year old child is the most disrespectful and mean manner - I have rarely heard that kind of profanity. I apologized for any disruption and explained it was get taking care of quickly. The man above went on a second tirade. It was so bad, another neighbor cane out to apologize and called the police. The house was wonderful but I would never stay there again.
Thank you for your review. We apologize for the neighbor's behavior and are sorry to see that it would stop you from renting the home again. The home is great for a larger group, and we typically do not have a problem with the neighbors. We hope to have another chance to impress you in the future!
We expected a more remote location from the pictures in the website but the activity around the property and the convenience of being right in town were welcome.
Pretty cool spot. Nice wood everywhere. Good for large group of ski coaches. Easy walk to town.
Great location. Well stocked kitchen. We will come again.
We enjoyed staying at this cabin and would definitely rent it again. It warmed up quickly, offered good space for our family, and had everything we needed. The cabin is nice and a fair price. Thanks!
Perfect for a 6-person work retreat.
The flying stag is a wonderful mountain get away. The property is blocks for historic government camp, extensive trail network and of course majestic mount hood. The accommodations are plush. You feel worlds away and in our busy work world this is a retreat that is worth much more than the price for the night. Come and you will enjoy. I have and will again at least annually.
The Flying Stag is beautiful. The beds are very comfortable and clean and the house is tidy. All they need were some better knives for cooking with! Interacting with the owners was easy and pleasant. The location is great for getting to all the attractions around, and quiet. I personally like to be more away, but the easy walk to the little town is fun. We had a great time in this little place with a great view!
The governing board for Leadership Clark County needed a location for our annual retreat on the night of June 19th and all day June 20th, and as board chair, I suggested trying the Flying Stag Lodge. The location was perfect for our large group - plenty of sleeping areas, and most importantly, a wonderful large table and living room for our 14 members to gather and meet. The lodge has plenty of personality, and we loved finding such a large place right in the heart of Government Camp. Many of our members have commented that this was a perfect location and I for one look forward to returning on a vacation. The lodge would be great for a multi family ski trip or summer vacation.
We really appreciate this great feedback. The Flying Stag is a perfect spot for a working retreat. There is ample space for sleeping and relaxing but, more importantly, there is that great table for getting down to business and working as a group. Perfect for business and for a multi-family vacation rental. We love this property and are glad you did too!
Flying Stag was great! From organic linens, to a giant and well appointed kitchen, to lovely handcrafted couches, curtains and more, it's the best place on Mt Hood, hands down!
celebrated a birthday party with loads of friends. very comfortable cozy space and in an excellent location! we really enjoyed our stay
Thanks for staying. We're pleased that you found the home to be comfortable and that the location suited you. Happy Birthday!
We loved our stay at Flying Stag! It has a mountain retreat feel, interesting décor and many fun options for sitting with small or larger groups. The kitchen is set up so that two people can be cooking as others are sitting across the island enjoying the action - very social. The long tables fit our group of 18 very easily for meals. And the couches around the fire were comfortable and created the right setting for our strategic planning conversations. The beds were very comfortable and made with beautiful linens, and the diversity of sleeping options fit our group well (with kids, couples and singles). And the location can’t be beat - right next to the shops and a short walk up to the trails surrounding Government Camp. Thank you for the beautiful retreat spot!
Members of my organization stayed at the Flying Stag Lodge March 14-15th. Its a great location for a small office retreat or team building weekend!
Thank you for your great feedback!
We stayed at this property for a planning retreat. It comfortably fit our entire team; the layout of the building provides for a surprising amount of privacy and quiet working space. The beautiful mountain scenery, combined with the rustic design of the interior made for a very cozy weekend. Cooking in the updated kitchen was a pleasure and eating meals in the dining area easily accommodated a dozen folks. I am inspired to return soon with my extended family.
Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again.
