Recent Government Camp guest reviews

This home was beautiful, plenty of room for large family gathering. Well stocked and no long unreasonable check out lists. Added bonus, house was ready early so we were invited to check in early. Would absolutely stay in this home again.

The house had plenty of rooms and beds to accommodate the three families. We loved the wood burning stoves after long days of sledding! Great location, close to town and sledding!
Sandra L. | Dec 2024
Easy access to both mountains (15min away), restaurants are within walking distance, shared Hot Tub and Sauna were easy 1 min walk, club facilities were in perfect condition and cleanliness. Direct access from the garage into the unit is a super plus considering the weather.

Where is Government Camp, OR?

Nestled between the town of Rhododendron and the famed Timberline Lodge, our Government Camp rentals are only 55 miles east of Portland and 40 miles south of Hood River.

Skiing in Government Camp

Just up the road from Mt. Hood Village and the uniquely-named Zigzag, OR, Government Camp is coming into its own as a world-class skiing destination! The area around Government Camp is home to three popular ski resorts: Timberline, Mt. Hood Skibowl, and Mt. Hood Meadows. Of these, Timberline Lodge claims its own unique heritage as a Depression Era structure built by Franklin Roosevelt's WPA in 1937.

For a more family-friendly activity (or if you need a little break from skiing), Mt. Hood Skibowl also offers the best tubing on the mountain! From extremely steep hills that will make you feel like you’re flying down the mountain to gentler slopes suited for small children, your day pass gets you unlimited access to this fun-filled area. When the sun sets on a weekend winter night, join Skibowl for Cosmic Tubing, where over 600,000 LED lights illuminate the park and rocking music plays over the speakers.

Summer activities in Government Camp

Tucked right in Mt. Hood National Forest, Government Camp is also a gateway to all things summer. From your mountain cabin, you can camp, bike, hike, fish, swim, kayak, raft, climb a mountain, or just watch the birds and smell the flowers.

When you're done playing and have worked up an appetite, enjoy a meal in one of the many great restaurants in Government Camp like Charlie's Mountain View for prime rib sandwiches, Ice Axe Grill for cold pints of Mt. Hood Brewing Co. ale and burgers, or the new Glacier Haus Bistro for German-inspired fine dining. If you don't feel like eating out, a quick stop at Govy General Store will have you all stocked up for a tasty homemade meal back at your cozy ski condo.

Whatever your recreational preferences lead you to, a stop along the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway has something for you, and our charming Government Camp rentals give you a warm and cozy home base after a long day of adventure. Book today!
