Dog-friendly, secluded mountain view cabin with deck, firepit, and gas fireplace

Escape to the Idaho wilderness with a stay in this secluded cabin with views of mountains and valleys. This recreational oasis sits on the end of a working ranch directly adjacent to BLM land, allowing you to go fishing and wading in the Payette River on summer days. Spend your evenings on the front porch grilling out, or gathered around the outdoor firepit.

A 10-mile drive from the cabin brings you to Tamarack Resort. You're situated at the northern end of Cascade Lake, and while your stay certainly feels remote, you'll be just seven miles from Donnelly and an 18-mile drive from McCall, where you'll find grocery stores and restaurants. Be sure to bring your fishing poles, bikes, ATVs, and any other summer toys as well! This family-friendly cabin sits on hundreds of acres of private land, which are perfect for exploring. The spacious front deck with a gas grill sets the scene for dinner outside, with a picnic table and chairs seating up to 10. There is additional back deck space as well. Roast marshmallows around the outdoor firepit under the pines and stars, or cuddle up around the indoor gas fireplace on chillier nights.

Big Bear Retreat has a rustic feel with all the comforts of home, including a full kitchen with a dishwasher and a washer and dryer. Fill your indoor evenings with games and shows on the two TVs. Book your family's stay in this secluded cabin, and you're one step closer to adventure!

Cozy cabin with great view of valley and mountains. Very comfy beds. Mostly stocked with kitchen basics.

This cabin accomodates 10 people very comfortably. The cabin is unpretenious. It is a simple cabin with adequate space for a large family. We loved the peaceful nights and crisp morning air. The front porch is a great place to just drink a cup of coffee and relax and unwind. I loved that there was no Wi-fi. We had 4 adults and 6 children. The dirt road is well maintained. Their are no neighbors, so the children can be as playful as they want outside. I would reccomend this place. The decor and cleanliness is a 3+ to 4 star.

this was a very nice place to stay, the view was spectacular and had all that we needed. I will say, without going into a lot of detail, that you do feel like your being watched a lot, if laughing and playing games and just letting loose without being destructive or hurting anyone or anything is a bad thing, then this isn't the place to stay. We just wanted to escape the world for a weekend.

In an area that us congested with vacationers, big bear retreat gave us the much needed seclusion we were looking for. House has lots of room. Kids had a blast. Thank you so much.

Thank you to the owners for sharing their home/ranch/retreat/slice of heaven with my wife and I. The view out of the front window was spectacular! The solitude was what we were looking for. The 16 hour drive and money were worth it for sure. ☺

Great place to stay, had all the necessities, very nice property and view.

This was an amazing home with an even better view! You can really make a great trip out of this stay. This is exactly what my family needed. It has a home feel which is amazing. The decor was perfect. The best place in the house is sitting on the deck in a rocking chair and looking at the view!!! So so so amazing and super kid friendly. Thank you for a perfect stay

We stayed during a snow storm with below zero temps. The gas fireplace was wonderful for heating the main room. The layout of the house is perfect for having teenagers/kids and adults. It has a small family room with a half bath for the kids to hang out with a door that leads into the main living space. Only negatives were the front deck is very slippery with ice. The front bedroom heat didn't work, but the blankets were plenty warm. There wasn't sufficient cooking pots to make spaghetti. Overall it was a great place to stay, the house is located in a great location. It is easy to get to the ski resort, McCall and the lake. I will definitely suggest this home to my friends.
Manager response:
Hi, Caya! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and apologize the heat was difficult for you. This will be inspected once the home is opened up after the winter season. Thank you!

we enjoyed our stay very much. everything was great. heat was hard to control (too hot majority of the time) and water was brown but not a big deal still a great retreat for our family. I definitely recommend it.
Manager response:
Thank you for staying with us, Ruben. We're sorry to read the water was odd during your stay. Maintenance will inspect that right away. We hope to host you again!

The cabin was a perfect fit for our family. It had plenty of space & beds. The only thing missing was an air conditioner.
Patsy F. Jun 2021
The best part of this stay was the view.
Manager response:
Hello Patsy, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the views at Big Bear Retreat! We hope to host your future vacations!

This cabin we stayed at was awesome! It is away from everyone, very clean place. We had a blast!

Private vacation spot away from everything but close enough to access what you need. Bring mosquito spray as the cabin sits next to a swamp. The views are amazing from the porch. Relaxing vibes to be had for sure. Definitely will be staying here again.

The location was exceptional! Very remote and placid. The natural view with the mountain, meadow, wild animals and the sound of birds made it really special. The ranch caretaker was helpful and friendly too. We liked being surrounded by nature. Having a campfire - remember to bring camping chairs and wood.

Perfect little getaway!!!!

great place to stay , clean and comfortable and quiet.
there are cattle on the property that make some noise.
maybe they could have some discounts once and a while
on the rent about $320 per nite .
Marianne J. Jul 2019
Great home, large enough for 12, very remote. Dirt roads for 1-2 miles then a 100 yd dirt road that has deep potholes.
Cows nearby bellered all night. Bring ear plugs

Isolation was lovely. Everything was enjoyable

Such a beautiful location that this home is at. It's close to the lake but far enough away for it to be quiet and away from the noise of Donnelly. Beautiful sunsets and 360 view

Loved everything about my stay at the cabin except for the water issues.

Very quiet, private and peaceful at this cabin. Loved the location! It's off the beaten track and you've nobody else around you.

The cabin is very comfortable. Nicely furnished and decorates, the beds are comfortable, nice large kitchen that is fully furnished. The deck is large and nice to sit out on with your favorite beverage and watch the world peacefully go by.

The only issue is the water! Tastes horrible due to the iron and other minerals. Bring your own drinking water. Also think it's taking its toll on the plumbing. One of the showers was unusable because you could only get a trickle of water out of it. Looks like the hard water deposits have choked off the flow.

Similar issue with the two toilets that were working - the half bath toilet was out of order. The toilets work but it takes them 15 minutes to refill the tanks - even with the valves fully opened.
Manager response:
Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback! The water filtration system has been addressed and fixed, and the toilet has been completely replaced.

Quiet and secluded. Very charming house
Would have give five stars but for the iron in the water.
Melissa T. Aug 2018
Wonderful cabin perfect for a quick getaway close to town. We loved the views and wildlife. Was exactly what we were looking for! We will return for sure to this little gem!
Kristina P. Aug 2018
It was a lovely cabin with a great 👍🏻 view out the front door. Looks just like the pictures. Great family cabin with a lot of space. The only complaint would be the water. You definitely need to bring your own drinking water and be prepared for it to be discolored if you shower with a strong odor.
Javier S. Aug 2018
The neighbors were super welcoming in letting us know where we could access wood for the fire pit. Everything was clean and looked great! Better than what was expected. The water smelled like cooper but other than that it was a great home to stay in.

Everything is as accurately listed in the description. I will give it a 5 star if the highchair was clean as I could find yellowish spots and some dirt on the high chair when I took out from the storage. We went in late Jan and it was cold and snowing. The indoor heater works great on the first day and the next day it just died on us. However, it is still a nice place/environment for families or friends staying.
