We had a perfect 3 days here. The cabin stayed cozy warm, the bed was comfortable and our dog settled right in and relaxed (not always the case, so the place must have had good vibes). The proximity to the beach was the biggest plus, followed by all the natural light streaming in the windows and the fireplace. The good WiFi connection kept us entertained when the rain kicked in. The shower head was in perfect working order. The kitchen ware was not great, as noted by other reviewers. We compensated by planning in advance for simple sheet pan meals. The drawbacks of a slow draining bathroom sink and pour selection of cookware was more than outweighed by finding a well-furnished, affordable, warm stay so close to a beautiful beach.

This cabin was clean and in a great location. Really enjoyed our time there. My only suggestion is the same as other reviews...the bedroom really needs a lamp as there is no ceiling light in there. Will definitely reserve again

Great location and view. I love all the windows and the closable deck. Several small easily fixable things need to be addressed to make this place perfect: Overhead light in kitchen kept going out, had to open the fridge to see. No salt, only pepper. The shower head is broken so it sprays all over the wall from the base. Like I said, all easily fixable. Thanks for a great getaway!

We enjoyed a long weekend here, but it’s pretty basic. That is also ok, but some additional care would make a lot of difference. Kitchen gear was all there, but kind of grubby (I am by no means a clean freak, but I felt the need to wash everything before I used it). Also completely disorganized in the drawers and cabinets—had fun tracking down two complete sets of eating utensils across three different drawers each with a chaotic mix of prep, cooking and eating stuff. Not even a lamp in the bedroom, and basic furnishings would have been better with maybe a table for drinks and gear near the seating, or maybe a footrest? Two hangers in the closet. Bring your own cooking basics, though we did find some salt and sugar and finally an almost-empty pepper shaker in the very back of a cabinet. Fireplace was great, bed really comfy, location was fab, and it’s a cute little place, but details make a lot of difference.
Hi, Elizabeth! Thank you so much for letting us know about your stay so we can make some improvements for our guests. A new lamp has been added to the home as well as a small table, and the kitchen has been reorganized. We hope to see you again!

Nice location, cute house, clean. Only issue was shower head. Water went everywhere, got everything water.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay, Jodi! The shower head has been changed out to prevent any repeat events. Thank you!

It kept rain off our heads. Only one heater worked and it was very noisy. Refrigerator was louder than heater. No sleep for two nights due to noise. Electricity outlets were loose from walls. Would like a refund
Hello Dan, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for the issues you had during your stay, as this is not the high level of guest satisfaction that we hold ourselves to. Our local manager has confirmed the issue with the loose outlets has been repaired. They are currently working on getting the refrigerator fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will give us another chance to impress you in the future.

Thank you for allowing all 3 of my 4-legged babies.

The colors on the walls, the cute furniture, it is so light and cheerful. Just a pleasure to be there.

I have never stayed anywhere so dirty in my life. The cleaning person didn’t start cleaning until 10 minutes after our checkin, then her car broke down in our spot so we had to haul our stuff in from the road. There was residue in the bathroom sink and on the faucet from previous renters. There was dried food on the kitchen sink, the microwave and stove had dried dood and meat juice. The fan was gross, as were the floors. The only credit we got was $45 on a bill over $900. Would not recommend to any one I know...or don’t know.
Hi! Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear that the home was in this condition upon your arrival - please know that this is not the regular standard for our properties. - Short walk to the beach
- Pets are allowed. Our two small dogs love visiting the beach!
- There is a small view of the ocean if you look between the neighboring home.
- The towels were clean and white.
- The refrigerator and microwave were clean.
- The supplies in the kitchen were old, worn out, and in bad shape. Another review in May 2020 also complained about this and the response from VACASA was that they would be replaced. That did not happen.
- The pots and pans were disgusting. There were two tiny frying pans, each only big enough to fry two eggs at a time. One frying pan had food stuck to it so I had to wash it before using it. I had to fry our eggs in two batches because the pan was so small. The other frying pan was in such bad shape (worn out, the finish coming off, old oil/food adhered to it) that it was not usable.
- The very flimsy spatula also had food stuck to it and had to washed before we could use it
- Now for the really disgusting part. The drawer with the old and mismatched silverware in it had dirt and hair around the silverware!
- The measuring spoons were in a drawer and were also dirty (covered with what appeared to be coffee grounds)
- The mattress was dirty and had holes in it. It looked like it was at least 10 years old, probably more than 15 years old. Good news - I inspected for bed bugs and did not see any.
- The mattress pad was threadbare and the padding was coming out of it. It had little specks of something stuck to it (looked like little bits of dried plant material).
- The shower head was disgusting. It had old yucky build-up all around the holes where the water comes out. The part that attaches to the wall was rusty.
- There is a thin curtain between the bed and the living area. The curtain rod is coming loose from the wall is about to fall to the floor.
- The window blind next to the table is in really bad shape.
- The lamp in the living area (it's like a cluster of lights) was missing two bulbs and one light cover.
- I am a healthy person with no back problems but it hurt my back to sit on the futon/sofa for very long.
In summary, I would never stay here again. We planned to stay three nights but left after one night. I took photos but I don't see anywhere to attach photos to this review.
We appreciate your feedback, Theresa, and are so glad you chose to stay with us. A new shower head has been added to the home, and we have added any missing essentials to the kitchen. The property manager will be looking at the mattress and curtain to see what needs to be done. Thank you!

Periwinkle is located perfectly in Pacific Beach. Walk anywhere including 5 min from the ocean. We like how simple it is. This is our 4th year staying here.

Close to the beach, nice deck. Everything you need to enjoy a beach getaway. TV with cable and good wifi. Kitchen supplies are limited, so bring what you need.
Chris L.Jul 2020
Very cozy and clean. Convenient access to the beach. Bed in very comfortable. Kitchen is right sized. Only improvement would be footrests for the deck chairs.
Jennifer P.Jun 2020
This place is adorable with quick access to the beach. The whole yard is fenced, but it surrounds four cottages - it's not a personal fenced yard. The decks can be closed up, so that keeps dogs separated. I didn't end up bringing my dog, even though I'd booked it for her; she made other plans that weekend.
I knocked down a half star for some petty stuff, but things that made a difference. There was only one roll of toilet paper in the whole house. It wasn't a full roll - just a half used roll of toilet paper. I had to get a tissue box out of my car because I didn't pack extra. There was no sponge to wash the dishes. I made a flank steak one of the nights and had to scrub out the pan with my nails (ew). The one dishtowel for drying (?) was mildew stained.
Those were tiny annoyances but were enough that every time I went to the bathroom or to wash a dish, they added up to take down this half a star.
The neighbors were quiet, the cottage was adorable, the walks were lovely, and there is coffee/breakfast stuff nearby. I'm totally going to book this space again - but this time I'll bring extra stuff and will check with my dog before making plans.

My granddaughter (9) and I decided we needed to get away for a few days and were looking for a dog friendly place to stay near the ocean. I found this cottage on Airbnb and it was an excellent choice. I love the big windows on the front and the Periwinkle blue wall in the living room. It was bright and cheerful and had lot's of fencing to keep Emmerson (the dog) contained. It was close to the beach. We had a great time. I would definitely stay there again.
Sally B.Jun 2020
We loved the location....right across the street from the path down to the beach. Also, a little view from the living area. The grassy yard was nice. We didn’t bring our dog, but know she would have enjoyed it too! The cottage was cute! We found the bed very comfortable. Although the kitchen wasn’t stocked with the finest quality items, we had enough utensils/pans/dishes to prepare 2 breakfasts an 2 dinners. We really liked the quietness of the cottage and proximity to the beach. We will be back!
ERIN M.Jun 2020
Cute place and it has an ocean view from the living room which was awesome. Loved that we could bring the dogs at no extra charge and the balcony had a gate to keep the dogs secure.
Erin, thank you for your review! We are happy to hear that this home was perfect for you and your pups. To clarify, there is a pet fee, however it is already built into the cost of your reservation. We hope to see you again soon!

Highly recommend the Periwinkle unit in Pacific Beach.
The unit is exactly as advertised. It's perfect for two and there is a futon, but I'm guessing it'll be a little cramped for more than two people.
Periwinkle is part of a complex with a few other units, but it's fenced around it and we enjoyed being able to walk around with our dogs to get some fresh air.
This unit is right across the street from the beach, probably literally less than a 60 second walk, and only a mile from vehicle beach access. We loved driving our car onto the beach and just hanging out.
Only a couple of negatives, but easily fixable - the place was really low on paper products, i.e. toilet paper and paper towels. Didn't pose a huge problem, there's a market around the corner, but not something you run into at a rental place, usually. Also, the dvd player didn't work which was a bit of bummer as there were a few days during our stay where the weather wasn't great and we were inside more than we wanted to be.
All in all, I'd highly recommend and would definitely go back.
Hi, James! We are sorry to hear of these issues during your stay. The DVD player has been replaced. Thank you, and we hope to see you back soon!
Frederick S.May 2020
The cabin was cute on the outside! It needed major lawn care though. About two months over due. The cabin was very dirty on the inside. Funny because just before checking in I got a email from manager stating about all the extra cleaning for COVID from CDC guidelines. This was not the case. I found pretty much everything to be dirty. All towels stained. Long hairs found all over my body after my toweling from shower. I have buzzed hair. Not mine! That was gross. My friend and I cleansed the whole place top to bottom. Cooking pans, etc are pathetic. Of course the whole place is out dated but I didn’t mind that. I could tell that by the pictures and the price. I just was looking cleaner especially during these times.
Thank you for your review, Frederick. We are sorry to read you did not have a better experience while staying with us. Lawn care has been addressed, new pots and pans have been added, and all stained towels have been removed. A major cleaning has been on the home as well. We would like to thank you for staying with us and hope to see you again!

Close to beach but not the most comfy place to stay at.
The yard is gated but you share the yard with other "huts". I say this because I didnt realize that and with dogs I would've chose a different place with gated private yard to make it easier.
Cecilia M.Mar 2020
The cabin was clean, simple, close to the beach and had everything we needed.
Ivan B.Feb 2020
Great place to stay and be as alone as you want!
Diana L D.Jan 2020
This was a great place to stay - since it was a home it was quiet. We had one place to park our car which was right next to the gate into the enclosed yard up to the porch. It was a great location mid-winter and would be even more amazing when nice and warm outside.
Cecily S.Jan 2020
Perfect for a solo beach getaway!
Linda M.Dec 2019
Loved the gas fireplace, a cozy place to put my dog's bed so she could curl up after a long run on the beach in chilly December weather. There's a nice enclosed patio if you want to let your dog out without having it run off. Periwinkle is not 'on' the beach but the surf can be seen from the windows, which are many and big. The kitchen is adequately stocked with dishes and flatware, and a couple of very nice wine glasses. I didn't do any cooking, just reheating in the microwave, so I can't comment on the cooking vessels. Why 3 stars? 1) lack of places to hang wet towels after a rainy walk on the beach. Dogs get wet! And they need towels to help dry them off (I brought my own supply and that was a good thing because there were none supplied). I have suggested a collapsible drying rack as a good addition. 2) under the pillowcases on the bed are some very old and dirty pillows (bring your own!), and the mattress pad under the sheet is threadbare. Yuck. 3) the shower curtain is way too long and drags on the bottom of the tub... easy enough to just cut it off at the right length (it's plastic). So, owners, how about taking care of these details? Inexpensive pillows can be found at IKEA, Walmart, etc. Keep them fresh; donate the old ones to the Humane Society for dog beds. Otherwise this is a terrific place. I liked it a lot.
Linda, we appreciate the time you took to share your valuable feedback! We have since passed your suggestions regarding the drying racks, shower curtain, and bedding to our local manager in order to work with the homeowner to make necessary upgrades. We hope to have the chance to host your next visit! Thank you.

My husband and I absolutely loved staying at the Periwinkle and I hope we will go back soon! The area is amazing, its quiet, and not alot of people. Super cozy place to stay, it's really good for a little weekend getaway with a friend or signficant other.

This place is wonderful! Clean, quaint, and has everything you could need on a small getaway. Only small bummer is low water pressure in the shower making washing hair a bit difficult, but still a five star place to stay. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
Heidi T.Aug 2019
We loved the gated yard and so did our pup!!! Also perfect for a getaway for *just us* & the pup without the kiddos :) Really close to the beach which is a must for us! :)
Lynn S.Jun 2019
The location is great. it's about a 5 minute walk to the beach and close to the kite store and gas station. We like staying at the campground but we wanted a quick getaway and this was available. I would definitely stay again. My only thing I would recommend is to get better lighting in the bathroom and bedroom. The shades should be updated in the living area and better utensils would be nice. The bedding was clean.
William B.Jun 2019
Had everything you could need. Clean, cute place. Walk across the street to beach. Or watch waves roll in from your private yard/deck. I love that it’s a separate little house and not a shared walks, hotel kind of thing. Would definitely recommend and use again! Thanks!!

Solid beAch front unit. Great location. Bring extra blankets for cooler seasons.
Stacey B.Apr 2019
Cute little beach cabin, great location! Beach is right across the street, coffee shop is right around the corner. We would definitely stay again!
Robert P.Mar 2019
The house is smallish but cozy and enjoyable. Proximity to the path to the beach is only 1/2 block so access to sand is quick. Ocean view and ocean waves sound, otherwise quiet little neighborhood and town, Only 16 miles to Ocean Shores if you need to buy anything you forgot, like food or useful utensils. The house is well stocked with essentials. This was the first beach experience for our dogs so it was a friendly place for them as well. The local caretaker was friendly and swift to refill the barbecue's empty propane tank upon request. Would stay there again.
Graham T.Nov 2018
Great little cabin about 1 minute walk to the beach.
