This place was nearly perfect(that cell service!) and I'd go back in a heartbeat. The location! The sounds of the river while you slept! The tile in the home! THAT BATHTUB!!!
Do yourself a favor and book it now!
This is the perfect little get away house! Myself and a few of my girlfriends had a get-away-from-it-all weekend and waking up to the view of trees and the sound of the river was a dream come true. I highly recommend this site and house of course. I am already trying to figure out when I can come back again!
The cabin was so peaceful. Incredible tile work. Excellent location. Easy access and parking. We want to go back! Leave art and notes in the guest book!!!!
Surrounded by a lush forest this charming cottage had everything we needed and more! The interior was so tastefully decorated with Oregon/Western themed collections and antiques, accented by incredible tile and cozy furnishings. Loved hearing the sound of the Sandy River - steps away!
Loved the cozyness and all the decor details.
The cabin is the perfect spot for a short vacation. Went with my husband and 3 kids. The only issue is the lack of privacy, since the rooms are open and there is only one bathroom, so I recommend it for a romantic getaway or a small family.
I was afraid that the cabin wouldn't be warm at wintertime, since some people mentioned the fireplace being the only source of heat. But it's actually not!! There are cadet heaters in the walls of each room (including living room), and the place stays very warm as soon as they are turned on.
Beds are a bit too soft for me, but some guests probably won't mind.
I needed time away. The minute I arrived to this property I felt like I belonged. The house was quiet and quirky. My old souls was satiated. I brought my own firewood and enjoyed reading by the fire in the evening. The river wasn’t visible, but it was an adventure to find. It was fun to navigate the wooded area. I would definitely love to return in the future.
We had a wonderful stay. The cabin is super close to great incredible hikes, is surrounded by leafy trees and the sound of the creek. We left relaxed and renewed.
It's tastefully decorated in a vintage cabin style, which was really fun - we just wished the stove wasn't vintage too as we had trouble getting the electric stovetop to work very well.
If you're a coffee drinker be sure to buy the Starbucks brand pods, as the only coffee maker we could find was a Verismo machine.
All in all, would highly recommend this place!
Such a beautiful cabin!! We loved are stay. Perfect.
We loved the house itself, however we were attracted to it because of the promised view of the river that runs beside it. We did not get the promised view because of the overgrowth in the yard and along the banks. We could hardly see the river at all which is not what the pictures on the website show this was quite disappointing.
My two adult daughters and I had a lovely Christmas get-away in this beautiful home. It is situated perfectly, looking out at the woods and river through a 2-story wall of windows. Because of all these windows, the main room is really cold unless you keep a fire going in the fireplace. Firewood is not provided, and weather prohibited us from venturing out to buy any. We were grateful another person was joining us on the second day to bring us lots of firewood and a space heater. The bedrooms and bathrooms are cozy with their own wall heaters; it's just the main room where you want to spend all your time that needs some extra heat. There is limited privacy except in one bedroom with a single bed, but that was not a problem for us. We loved the home and will look forward to returning again!
We had a great friendsgiving here, close to the mountain and to some beautiful hiking trails. The cabin was great for a big group meal and had plenty of cooking utensils and dishes!
The river is right outside and we all loved sitting next to the fire place and looking at the river out the large windows!
Would recommend this place to my friends and family. Perfect for just the two of us! It was very convenient to everything that we wanted to see and do.
What a beautiful location right next to the river! The cabin was quaint, quiet, and perfect for a group of 5 adults having a little time away from the hustle and bustle of life. Recommend this to folks!
We were looking for a rustic cabin out in the woods and that's what this is. The good part is you are still close to restaurants, stores etc. also it's a short walk to the river. The furnishings are a little dated but for us that added to the charm.
This house is tucked away in the woods. Never would have guessed it was there when driving to it on some narrow gravel roads off the main highway. Located not too far from town, but far enough to be somewhat away from society (there are neighbors right next door). House decor was fabulous. Everything was well stocked.
My only complaint was the backyard has really grown up compared to the pics. Sitting on the back porch, you can hear the river go by, but can't see it. A little bit of clearing would make a world of difference.
Special thanks to the staff for supplying box fans as this house does not have AC. They kept the house tolerable during a recent heat wave.
We loved this cabin! Our family likes to have a room to spread out when we travel and this place had a bed for everyone. The fireplace was great, the creek was enjoyable, we had all the linens and kitchen items we needed and we were totally comfortable. What was so fun was to look around at all the interesting antiques and artifacts in the cabin. We loved the way the cabin was decorated from the unique tiles to the placement of items from nature and history. Such a perfect spot.
My family and I loved this home. I grew up in Alaska and the moment I walked in this cabin I felt like I was back home. The cabin had games for the kids and a ton of movies for our down time. An amazing wood burning fireplace. The smell and crackle of the fire completed this beautiful home. The river is in the backyard, with a quaint little trail to get you there. If you enjoy peace and nature this is a must see. I am already planning to return again soon. Thanks again!
My BFF and I stayed here for 5 glorious nights. We were so pleased with this rental. The home was super comfortable and decorated with such charm and detail. It felt like we had stepped into the pages of a Ralph Lauren catalog. The location, which is at least 10 minutes off the main road Rt. 26, is tucked in the woods and right near a river and is so lovely. The way in which the sunlight dapples in and all about the back porch is gorgeous. We loved being able to hear the river. We definitely used the fireplace to warm the place up. The kitchen worked for us as we prepped simple meals. Definitely a great space for two BFFs or a couple. Highly recommended.
Our family of 4 settled right into this very tastefully decorated "Oregon Trail" style.
The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and the river was fun to explore. The only drawback is that the home does not have real "separate" bedrooms, and the floors upstairs were a little creeky, which could wake up the one sleeping downstairs. We would easily stay here again!
A weekend at Hickory Haven is perfect for a weekend with the family to hike, play games, enjoy the nature and sit in front of the fireplace with a hot cocoa.
Our stay was only two nights, and we felt sad to leave on our final morning. It rained the whole time, being October, but we enjoyed looking through the expanse of windows out into the woods and the rushing river beyond. With umbrellas, we also took a short walk to the river a couple of times per day. The natural setting for Hickory Haven was perfect for reflection and contemplation. A roaring fire in the fireplace made the whole house warm and inviting. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, the bathroom was super clean. I'd definitely recommend Hickory Haven for a cozy, woodsy retreat.
House very unique--furnished like you would expect a cabin in the woods. House comfortable and cozy. It is basically one large room so if noise is an issue for someone in your party, this might not be house for you. Someone sleeping upstairs might be woken up by someone in kitchen as noise carries throughout.
Very nice clean cabin. Small, but cozy and enjoyable for a couple or small family.
Great house, the kids loved having the river right behind the house. The deck was amazing. We spent a lot of time out there. A couple of fans would have been really nice since it was hot, but we made it work. The coffee maker that is there does not work right, and takes forever to purk. Not a big issue but we're bringing our own next time. Overall we loved the house and will be back!
Very nicely decorated and very clean. Hidden back in a wooded area along the river. Enjoyed our stay!
Very nice place. If you want a place to rejuvenate, this is it.
Hickory Haven is a pretty little house right by the Sandy River.
The big windows make it light and airy, as does the living room's high ceiling.
The house is one big room, really, with a gallery for the twin-sized master bed and a single bed on both sides of a partition wall, plus one other bed in a small, separate bedroom.
The high ceiling, however, also means that the warm air from the fireplace and the cadet heater moves up to the sleeping area while the living area remains fairly cool - which is not a problem in summer but might mean extra heating requirements in winter.
The furniture is old but cozy (the term I'd apply is 'vintage', I guess), with ample appliances and kitchen utensils (but no dishwasher).
All in all, I'd say the house is best for either a couple without children or with one child at most. It might be a bit tight for four people since there is only one bathroom, which is pretty small at that (not much space to hang towels and such)
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 weeks in Hickory Haven.
Great place... wonderful stay
The house was very cute and I loved the decor. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. It was nice having a washer and dryer as well. The riverfront location was great and even through the temperatures were in the 90's, the house stayed very cool with no A/C.
Great cabin with lots of lovely unique appointments. Great place to just relax and watch the Sandy River roll by. This is also an excellent location to access the wonderful hiking trails surrounding Mount Hood or visit the Columbia River Gorge and visit nearby wineries on the way back. We had a great time amd would definitely come back again.
I stayed at this house over the weekend with a few friends and was so pleasantly surprised by the house condition and overall experience! It looks exactly like the pictures! The owner has also updated the house resources; there were lots of games for us to play, matches for the fire, spices for food, excellent wifi, old VCR tapes that we had fun going through, etc. The river is just outfront, which made exploring the area fun, and sitting on the porch peaceful. The neighbors seemed nice; we didn't get a chance to meet them, but we felt safe. SUCH A LOVELY WEEKEND! I will definitely be returning and plan on referring my friends/family to this house.
Great place for a guys weekend. A lot of places for hiking.
Stayed here for a couple days with my good friends. This was a fantastic cabin. The open-room loft and cozy living room were very cozy, and the kitchen had almost everything we needed to make good meals. The only criticism was that we couldn't find any matches to start the wood fireplace with! We will definitely be coming back!
This property was located deep in the woods and although it is on a beautiful river, the surrounding properties were a bit scketchy. The wrong lock box code was given to us and it took quite a while to get the correct one. We were not told that the main source of heat was the wood burning fire place and we needed to provide our own wood. To arrive in the evening with no way to warm the cabin but to go back out was unfortunate especially with children in tow. There were a ton of light bulbs out, no batteries in flashlights and there was no queen bed or wifi as advertised. There was only a double bed upstairs. We thought the house itself was lovely. We would stay there again if some upgrades were made. It could be amazing.
Thank you for your review. We apologize that some of the information for this home was missing or incorrect: sometimes there are a few wrinkles to iron out when we bring a new home on. The Property Manager has updated all of this information so that guests can see that there is no WiFi, the main source of heat is the wood stove, and that guests must bring their own firewood. We are glad to see that you enjoyed the home for the most part and hope you were comfortable once you settled in!
