About Nicaragua's Emerald Coast
Over the past few years, Nicaragua's Emerald Coast has evolved into one of the hottest tourism destinations in the world. Stretching for almost 20 miles between Playa Gigante to the south and the quaint fishing village of El Astillero to the north, this impeccable coastline in the Rivas Department of the Republic of Nicaragua offers untouched beaches, manicured golf resorts, and lush, green rainforests ready for you to enjoy! The best way to experience it all is with a stay in one of our vacation rentals.
Getting to the Emerald Coast
Opened in 2016, the Costa Esmeralda Airport has made it much easier to access the Emerald Coast, offering flights from Managua as well as the Costa Rican cities of San José and Liberia. This airport offers a Customs Department and even a convenient duty-free shop! From there, it's easy to rent a vehicle or book a private car to take you to your comfortable vacation rental on the Emerald Coast for the start of your tropical dream vacation.
Outdoor Adventure Along the Emerald Coast
From top to bottom, the Emerald Coast features pristine sandy beaches with secluded bays and impressive bluffs. Surfers have plenty to cheer about as there are several notable breaks throughout the region, including Playa Colorado and Popoyo, both of which play host to a number of renowned surfing competitions throughout the year.
Those wishing to just relax, read a book, or catch some rays will be delighted by some of the less populated beaches including the Astillero Beach Break and Playa Gigante.
While there's no end to the fun to be had at the many coastal beaches, golfers of all skill levels can play the world-class, David McLay Kidd-signature greens at Guacalito. Experience 18 oceanfront holes seamlessly incorporated into the natural terrain.
Just north of the Emerald Coast, in the Carazo Department, lies the sprawling Refugio de Vida Silvestre Río Escalante Chacocente (more widely known as simply Chacocente). This massive wildlife refuge is the place to go to see nesting sea turtles along the shore and hike miles of rainforest trails where monkeys, sloths, exotic birds, and iguanas are all part of the natural decor!
Dining and Luxury on the Emerald Coast
The Emerald Coast isn't all just tumbling waves, sandy beaches, and lush rainforests, though. As more and more people discover all that this area has to offer, coastal communities and resorts have grown over the past few years offering everything from unique shopping opportunities to incredible restaurants.
For a Latin Fusion menu, we recommend La Cantina at Meson Nadi near Popoyo, the La Boquita tapas bar at Rancho Santana, and Soma Surf Resort Restaurant at Playa Guasacate Beach with its menu focused on locally-sourced fruits, vegetables, and seafood.
Whether you're here for a short visit or an extended stay, our vacation rentals are ready and waiting to make your trip to the Emerald Coast one for the history books!
