About Eastern Cape

Arid deserts, plunging river valleys, and some of the greatest surfing beaches in the world: these are just a few of the dramatic landscapes that comprise the Eastern Cape, the second-largest province in beautiful South Africa. In recent years, the birthplace of Nelson Mandela has become a hotspot for outdoor adventures, with charming surf towns dotting its coast and the coveted "big seven" (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, southern right whale, and great white shark) all roaming within its boundaries. Experience the beauty and excitement of the region in all its glory when you stay in one of our Eastern Cape vacation rentals.

Where is the Eastern Cape?

Together with the picturesque Western Cape, the Eastern Cape forms South Africa's southern tip. It boasts more than 500 miles of pristine shoreline along the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean, and despite its enormous size - 65,000 sq. miles! - much of its spectacular terrain remains relatively untouched by tourism. If you're looking for South Africa's hidden gem, you've found it.

Things to Do in the Eastern Cape

With such diverse natural beauty at your fingertips, opportunities for exploring are endless. For a first-hand encounter with some of Africa's majestic wildlife, head to Addo Elephant National Park, home to more than 600 elephants and 400 buffalos, as well as lions, rhinos, and a variety of other wild animals.

If you prefer a different kind of adventure, grab your surfboard and hit the waves at the surfer's paradise of Jeffrey's Bay, whose famous swells have turned the tiny town into a must-visit for water sports enthusiasts of all types.

The Eastern Cape isn't all rugged wilderness, though. Port Elizabeth is one of the largest cities in South Africa, boasting Blue Flag beaches, a thriving cultural scene, and museums dedicated to the legacy of apartheid. Farther up the coast, the river port city of East London is also famous for its spectacular beaches and its incredible natural history museum - home to the only dodo egg in existence!

These adventures are only the beginning when you stay in one of our delightful Eastern Cape vacation rentals. Prepare yourself for the vacation of a lifetime!
