Stunning cliffs and rhythmic ocean riptides, canyons swimming with delicate life and young volcanoes inspiring origin myths - Fasnia has it all, with a rich natural heritage you can still see in the vibrant culture alive today. Expansive orchards, vineyards, and a panoply of flowers, potatoes, and tomatoes will tantalize your senses, while the unique traditions, crafts, and festivals of the locals will pique your curiosity during your stay in one of our vacation homes in this Spanish municipality.
Fasnia is a small municipality in southeastern Tenerife, the largest and most diverse of Spain's majestic archipelago, the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco. Housing a population of around 3,000 people over an area of 17 square miles, Fasnia is bordered by Güímar, Arico, and La Orotava.
The raw beauty of Los Roques adorns the coastline of Fasnia, visible from any of the beaches your choose to visit. Also along the coast is the cliff of La Hondura, which is a declared Site of Scientific Interest. Though this part of the island doesn't see much rainfall, the mountain peaks are colored green by pine trees, which have grown with help from the trade winds.
A trip to the Canary Islands wouldn't feel right without plenty of time in the sand and surf. Luckily, Fasnia is home to some exceptional beaches, which will inspire awe in even the most well-traveled visitors. The beach of Las Eras is made of sand and shingle, with gentle waves for swimming and a promenade for walking. As a bonus, this beach is rarely busy, so you don't have to worry about fighting the crowds.
El Abrigo Beach is an absolute must-see, with clear waters, a wide berth of sand and shingle beach, and medium-size waves to swim in and watch the constant battering against the monumental Roque de Fasnia. Although this beach is very close to town, you are almost guaranteed peace and quiet. Between your secluded vacation rental and trips to a quiet beach, you'll find the peace you are looking for!
If you don't mind a crowd, consider one of our homes in the nearby windsurfing capital of El Medano, where you'll find golden beaches and excellent conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Or, treat yourself to a vacation in luxury at the family-friendly resort destination, Los Cristianos.
What better way to spend a day than exploring the beautiful landscape and getting some healthy exercise while you're at it? Take an easy, three-hour hike through the tranquil scenery of La Zarza ravine to see hamlets sitting beside the municipality’s natural fresh-water source. Or, for a glimpse at the farming history of the land, walk the threshing trail for an up-close look at fields and learn about the traditional importance of threshing.
Journey north along the Royal Road of Fasnia to the caves of Herques and admire the traditional architecture of old homes along the way. If you take this trail south, you’ll be privy to a wonderful view of the whole municipality, as well as pass by the delicate ruins of San Joaquín chapel and the beautiful chapel of Los Dolores sitting peacefully atop a mountain. The icing on the cake - you'll be privy to a breathtaking view of the whole town and the ocean far below!
Whether you find your peace on the beach or the mountains, prefer admiring flora or a vibrant culture - a unique experience awaits you in Fasnia on the beautiful island of Tenerife!
