OVERVIEW
Historic 1797 Kenniston Hill House | Steps to the Common
Step back to 1797 at Kenniston Hill House, Boothbay's second-oldest home, built by Revolutionary War veteran David Kenniston and fully renovated with every comfort in mind. Exposed beams, wide pumpkin pine floors and six original fireplace mantels set the scene. A brand-new kitchen, a woodstove in the kitchen and living area, heat pumps in every room and full insulation keep it comfortable from summer through fall.
The home sleeps 8 across 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. Upstairs are two queen rooms and a twin room, and a futon sleeper sofa in the first-floor living room sleeps two more. Platform beds sit beside antique bureaus, wool rugs and vintage lighting. A pantry and mudroom make room for boots and beach bags. Out back, the custom patio has a grill and an outdoor dining table, made for dinners outside and golden hour.
Kenniston Hill House sits right next to Boothbay Country Club, so golfers can be on the course in minutes. It's just off Boothbay Common in the quiet village of Boothbay, close to downtown Boothbay Harbor's working waterfront, restaurants, boat tours and lighthouses. The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens are nearby too. The house is right on Route 27, with easy access to Route 1 for day trips along the Maine coast. A car is suggested, and free parking is on site for up to 4 cars.
Good to know: the home is fully renovated, with a brand-new, 36-inch-wide staircase off the living room that makes it easy to get to the second floor, suitcases and all. The original winding staircase at the front of the house is kept as a piece of its 1797 charm, and it is steep and narrow. Some original first-floor doorways are lower than modern ones; all upstairs doorways have been redone to standard height. The woodstove is the only working fire feature; the original fireplaces are decorative and not for use.
You must be 25 years or older to rent this property.
