My pup and I enjoyed being within walking distance of the beach, tide pools, and wooded trails. The kitchen had every tool we needed to prepare meals. It does get warm and bright, so bring a fan and sleep mask!
Deanne D. Oct 2021
The light coming in the dome was wonderful. And very close to the beach.

My husband and I had a great time at the surf dome. We loved the walk to the beach and the outdoor shower. We would definitely rent this place again. It really does get hot in the dome if it’s sunny outside. They had a few fans. You may want to bring an extra fan or some extension cords to make it easier to get circulation where you need it.

We blew into Otter Rock just in time to watch the sunset over the Devil's Punch Bowl. It was quite windy and we were chilled as we opened the door to the Surf Dome--our home for the week. It was welcoming and warm. We set up in the well-equipped kitchen, and my kids chose their beds. Husband and I took the loft overlooking the living room, 2 kids slept in the bunk room, and one took the couch in the living room, which expands into a double bed (with a bit of effort--just check that the rug is lined up and you're golden.) This worked for our family of 3 big boys and us. If you were 8 adults, prepare to get super cozy, aka, sharing beds.
A note on the kitchen. Cooks...the knives are sharp! You'll also find plenty of plates, bowls, silverware, pans, and measuring cups.
As soon as I saw the outdoor shower, I decided that all my showers would be outside. The water was deliciously warm and I loved looking up at the sky and greenery while I showered. Although the house is in a neighborhood, the trees and bushes in the backyard make it private and secluded. FYI...the tub upstairs is also lovely and you can look out the skylights there too. We kept our baths to a minimum because Oregon was in a drought while we were there.
I was so happy to find the compost! Normally I bring a shovel on family vacations to bury my vegetable/fruit waste in the woods. Here it's simple.
We were encouraged by locals to try surfing..."Why not?" we thought. Although I had lived in Newport in my youth, I had never tried surfing. My kids, my husband and I rented boards and wetsuits nearby and surfed for the first time in our lives at Otter Rock beach--a beautiful spot with gentle waves perfect for beginners. We even saw a whale. Then, the surfboard rack and outdoor shower were perfect.
The bed was comfortable and we slept well. We used the kitchen to cook up our own fresh seafood (from Local Ocean--highly recommended as a place to buy seafood either at their counter or in the restaurant). We enjoyed foraging on the property for the ripe blackberries, the salal berries, the huckleberries, and even some ripe cherries from the tree in the yard. A hummingbird often appeared at the Himalayan honeysuckle bush. (BTW, we were there in the 2nd week of August. Also, make sure you know exactly what you're eating before trying these things!)
This house is about a 10 minute walk from the beach on one side, and from the marine gardens on the other--this is where you can see tide pools at low tide and walk into the Devil's Punch Bowl...if you dare! Take care please, always check tide tables for low tide and never turn your back on the ocean.
We enjoyed mornings with a cup of tea on the deck...a great place for journaling, conversation or sketching.
We enjoyed our walks on the beach in the morning, the afternoon, and after dark in the spooky fog. If you're on the beach at night a phone flashlight is recommended.
We finished off our stay with an early morning beach walk before we headed back to Portland to fly out.
The house was bright and open, the locals are friendly and relaxed. It's a great place to make memories and to try something new. We hope to return here next year.

Could use some updates, seems the owners are making improvements over time. Couches are very stained as are the walls and entry carpet. BBQ on the deck would be nice. Otherwise the house was clean and well stocked, everything worked well.
Manager response:
Hi Simon, thank you for your review. We value your suggestions surrounding the condition of the home and welcome the opportunity to improve our homes for future guests. We appreciate you notifying us so we can make sure these are addressed. We hope to host you again!

Surf Dome is a staple at Otter Rock and the perfect home base for surfing and exploring the coast! Both the Otter Rock beach break and Agate Beach in Newport are perfectly accessible surf spots for beginners, and you can find everything you need at Pura Vida surf shop or Ossies in Newport. Make sure to visit the Devil's Punch Bowl and check out Cliffside Coffee and Sweets for their house-made fudge.

My family had a great experience here. Comfortable, smooth and very enjoyable. Just wished we'd have stayed longer!

Went with my mom, nephew and 2 sons(4, 7 and 10) and it was perfect. They loved everything about it and my mom and I were totally comfortable. We booked our next trip before leaving!!

2 minutes for the ocean, quiet, nice, clean. Perfect pace to stay.

This home was dreamy! We usually stay at the Inn at Otter Crest, and walk by this house every time we were there. My daughter had a surf themed 7th birthday, so we thought what better time to stay at the Surf Dome! It was a perfect trip and we adore this home. Can’t wait to book again!
Jamie N. Oct 2020
Loved the design of the house and it’s a perfect location- just a few minutes to walk to a great house. As others have mentioned, the dishwasher does not work well and the tub runs out of hot water before it can really fill. Also be aware that if you have an old dog, the stairs to the upstairs are steep and slick. That said, we loved our stay and would definitely return!
Manager response:
Thank you for your review! We appreciate your feedback and have notified the local manager of your suggestions. We hope to host you again soon!

Es la segunda vez que mi familia ha rentado esta casa de playa. Es perfecta para familias y mascotas. Muy cerca a la playa y sobretodo la arquitectura es lo máximo!. Muy recomendable.
James S. Oct 2020
We found this place when staying nearby, and were intrigued. It is unique, and delightful in many ways. We love the deck, and how well appointed the kitchen is. We would have given five stars if not for the length of time it takes to get hot water to the shower upstairs, and the fact the place shows some wear, but still - we loved it, and plan to rent again!
Chris M. Sep 2020
This house has great vibes!! The flow, shape, windows, natural light and constant wave sounds totally make for an amazing and unique experience. The house was super clean and the kitchen has literally one of every pot, pan, or other tool you might need. The upstairs bed was super comfy as was the living room couch. Every morning we would walk the literally 3 minute walk down to the beach. Do not forget there is an outdoor shower behind the house through the garden.
I have stayed at other Vacasa homes in the US and internationally and every experience is fun, safe, clean and relaxing and this was no exception. We will definitely be back.
Calvin Andrew S. Sep 2020
We really enjoyed our stay. There is so much to do here and the home is light and bright even during rain days.
Susan M. Aug 2020
Pros: Good location espcially if you surf. Less than two block walk to the stairs to the beach. Great natural light, nice grounds, outdoor shower was great after surfing. The inside of the house was clean.
Cons: Only one outdoor chair on the deck which was very odd. A fan is needed if the sun is out since only a few windows open. There is a ceiling fan but at 65 degrees and sunny, the house was roasting. There is barely any glassware in the kitchen. One wine glass, and two other mismatched three people can have glasses or you can drink 2-3 oz from a mini jar. Some plastic wares. Also, the couch needs to be replaced. No one wanted to sit on it due to the stains.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay but would bring things with us now that we know what it's missing.
Manager response:

Susan H. Aug 2020
We loved just being in this space. It is like staying in an art piece! Check-in was easy and the house had everything we needed. LOVED the outdoor shower which was great for post-surf. The one downside worth mentioning is that without AC, it can get quite toasty on a sunny day—even if air temps are not high.
Kim S. Jul 2020
Had a great time. Super close to the beach and tide pools and really cool architecture.
Laurel H. Jun 2020
Our family of 4 loved staying at the surf dome. Light and bright with a functional kitchen and great amenities such as a hot water outdoor shower and mud room. Would definitely stay here again.
Hazen P. Mar 2020
It’s a beautiful and enjoyable place to get away. We had a very entertaining time and our says it was a fun time.
Chihiro T. Mar 2020
The house looks very unique from outside but it was actually very comfortable to stay inside. Loved the sun light from lots of windows. The location is great too. Only a couple blocks to the beautiful beach. Otter Rock is a nice quiet little community and we loved it.

A few points we were not happy about the house are 1, the dishwasher is not mounted and tips forward when opened which is dangerous. Also there were full of dirty dishes when we arrived the first day. 2, they only have a limited hot water supply. They have a nice deep bath tub but we could only fill less than half of it before running out of hot water.

Despite these cons, we still love the house itself and the location and we would be happy to stay here again in the future.
Manager response:
Thank you for providing feedback, Chihiro. We are glad you enjoyed your stay! We appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention, and we will follow-up with both our housekeeping and maintenance teams to make repairs and improvements. We hope to have another chance to impress you in the future!
Judah S. Jan 2020
Very relaxing home and area to unwind. Enjoyed walks on beach during low/mid-tide, watched the big waves at high tide move big logs and crash over the Punch Bowl. Enjoyed low tide beach exploring inside Devils Punch Bowl at night.
Mulysa M. Jan 2020
Staying in a geodesic dome just a short walk from a marine preserve was a real treat. The house is family-friendly, clean and welcoming.
Gina W. Jan 2020
We've stayed here 3 times and will definitely be back again!
Chad W. Sep 2019
It was very user friendly and family friendly! Our kids loved this round home! It was literally 2 blocks from the beach and about halfway between Newport and Lincoln city. It was perfect!!
Juliette A. Sep 2019
Our family had a wonderful time at Surf Dome! The property is set up to support families with small children including: board games, built-in potty training toilet seats, small plastic cups, a bunk bed, and more!. It is perfectly located within walking distance of Devil's Punch Bowl and within driving distance of Newport and Lincoln City. We would love to stay here again in the future!
Kevin B. Aug 2019
This was the most memorable vacation I can remember. The house had all we needed and the proximity to the ocean was literally walking minutes away. We are seriously considering making another reservation for next year. 100% satisfied!!
Rob G. Aug 2019
All you need and all you want.
Raymond M. Jun 2019
We loved it
Jake R. May 2019
It was very close to a great beach access and is perfect for a surf vacation.
Mike D. Apr 2019
The dome home was funky and fresh. Very quite neighborhood blocks from the beach is a great place to stay. One fun thing about this home is because of the dome shape the acoustics travel very well throughout the house you can hear other people talking clearly no matter where you are in the common areas and upstairs loft bedroom. We enjoyed that but might not be the ideal house you’re trying to keep secrets:)
Wendy L. Apr 2019
This home was the COOLEST! Amazing that you can find such an architecturally relevant place with such ease. Well furnished and clean, we had a terrific stay.
Charles James L. Apr 2019
Beautiful location and fun place to stay.
Adam G. Mar 2019
Amazing light; unique and special experience!
Andrew P. Mar 2019
Unique rental with beautiful views
Josh E. Feb 2019
What a wonderful house to be caught in a coastal snow storm. Waking up to each window of the dome being filled with snowfall was perfect! Great house for a restful weekend with friends. The outdoor shower was an oasis for everyone to warm up in!
Colleen R. Feb 2019
We usually stay at a hotel with the kids and it's usually stressful and irritating. Almost takes the fun out of a family trip. This experience was the opposite. Everyone had an amazing time. From falling asleep to the sounds of the waves to the kids feeling at home enough they let us sleep in. The house was clean and spacious. They had everything you would need short of food. We enjoyed being close enough to towns but being somewhat secluded in our own little world. The only thing I would recommend is maybe leaving female products in the bathroom. The only down fall to our trip was getting settled for the night to find out my daughter needed some female products at 1030pm and we had to make the drive to Newport to try to find something open to buy these things. Just a suggestion though. Everything about the place was amazing and we are already discussing another trip there :)
Gina W. Nov 2018
The surf dome was perfect for our little family. The kids loved the house and we loved how close it was to the surf. We will definitely be returning!
Jon D. Nov 2018
It’s amazing just to pull up to this house. It’s so unique! Lots of space! The binder had lots of information about the local area including beach access and a tide chart. So close to the beach! Would definitely stay again!
John S. Nov 2018
The area is gorgeous and is barely crowded even on the sunniest vacation days, with nearby access to amazing views and beaches. If the tide is low enough you can even tour the inside of Devil's Punchbowl itself. Depoe Bay and Newport are both nearby. And it's a giant dome! Walking in the dark to your giant glowing ball leaves quite the impression.
I would bring any must-have kitchen items if you're planning on cooking: chef knives, shredder, etc.
Cassandra H. Oct 2018
This home was wonderful! We loved how spacious it was. The house booklet was extremely helpful for learning about the house and things to do in the area, especially the tide table! We hiked north up the beach and back down to devil's punchbowl, it was absolutely gorgeous! I loved the huge bathtub and the morning lighting coming through the triangular windows. What an interesting home to have stayed in so close to the beach. We certainly felt spoiled this trip to the coast, with beautiful spaces to sleep in and wonderful weather. Also, the fold out futon, is actually quite comfortable and we ended up sleeping on it one night. Thank you for sharing your unique space with us!
Gary and Ellen I. Sep 2018
We loved our stay at the Surf Dome home. It was wonderful. The house is so bright and cheery and so close to the beach!
Genevieve H. Aug 2018
The light in the home was amazing and the location was perfect for walking straight to the beach. The hot outdoor shower was by far the best amenity for after surfing. The host was camping right next door, he was friendly and it was nice chatting with him.
Megan J. Aug 2018
The location of this house couldn’t be better! You’re in walking distance of two awesome beaches, a surf shop, a winery and a Mo’s, and it’s just short drive to Newport and Depoe Bay. The house is adorable, and yes, it does get very hot during the day, but it cools down as soon as the sun sets. We appreciated the cooking supplies and board games! We will definitely be back.
Lynn R. Aug 2018
Very cool space. Close to beach. Clean and comfortable.
Quiet nights with ocean sounds and smells from the house.

David S. Jul 2018
The place was nice. Great location.... The beds aren't very large or comfortable - the sleeping situation could use an upgrade. Lounge chairs on the deck were broken as well. Otherwise, it's a nice place.
Richard S. Jun 2018
Beautiful setting, unique structure. Spacious living area. Nicely furnished very clean and well kept. Very short walk to the beach and spectacular overlooks.
William A. Jun 2018
Great clean house with all the kitchen necessities. Awesome access to beach adventures including tidepooling and beach runs. Outside shower was key.
Shauna D. May 2018
Close to the beach, close to Newport and Lincoln City, so much to do! Very easy to find and the neighborhood is adorable.

Very clean, lighting and inside are amazing! Note that it does get hot inside very easily but they do provide fans. I would for sure stay here again.
Sally C. Apr 2018
Fabulous spot for surfing at Otter Rock and exploring nearby beaches. Such a unique experience in the surf dome! It was very clean, thoughtfully decorated and relaxing! Watching the storm in the various dome windows was fun as was making granola in the kitchen well stocked for baking and more!
Nathan O. Apr 2018
Our family of 4 + 2 dogs had a great stay here with all around comfort. The windows in the house lit the place so well it felt light & airy, even on a gloomy day. Awesome place & awesome host!
Julie J. Feb 2018
House was very clean, bright. Well equipped kitchen, nice appliances. Quite neighborhood.
Eric W. Jan 2018
Really enjoyed our stay in this unique spot on the coast! The well-equipped kitchen made cooking a breeze, and there was plenty to do: two beaches within walking distance, and a short drive to the amenities in Newport or Lincoln City. We'll definitely be back!
