Great home away from home. Easy laid back feel but so modern and breezy. Very tidy and clean!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this unique home. It felt like a cabin setting being very simple, yet extremely well thought out. It was stocked in every area as if we were in our own home. There were thoughtful touches- even a Vita Mix blender! I Loved all the windows and the indoor/outdoor feel. Everything was very clean and comfortable. I thought it was odd to have the showers outside, but it ended up being one of my favorite parts of my stay. Upstairs had a lovely kitchen, screened in living room and a deck. With all the windows open, we had a lovely breeze all day. The downstairs is basically two master suites with sliding walls for privacy. It was just my husband and I, so it was totally fine. If I'd had my children, it wouldn't have felt entirely private as the doors are not solid wood but rather slats. The frogs are loud but we found them relaxing. The temperature was perfect at night with the glass sliders open. We loved the small yard and landscape and enjoyed some passion fruit from one of the trees. There were a lot of avocado but we had no way to access them as the tree was so high. I loved everything about this home and location. The Vacasa team was very responsive with some general questions we had prior to arrival and during the stay. The local are had plenty to keep us busy and we found some very cool cliffs to watch the sunrise every day (go to the end of the road at Uncle Roberts place then walk over the lava bed to the ocean. It's truly exquisite and very private.) We also took short drives to the state park and other areas where the most recent lava flows met the ocean. We knew to buy food prior to arrival so just hunkered down for 4 days locally. There's a small store just a couple miles away and we had smoothies at a cute little restaurant there. If we come back to the area we will definitely stay in this home again. Truly a one of a kind experience that we highly recommend.

Amazing design in this home, which is surrounded by greenery. Showering outside was very comfortable and a nice surprise (and private). Immaculate home, beautifully decorated with art.

While the property seemed a bit isolated when we first drove to it, once we had a look around the area, we realized it was not at all isolated, but it’s completely private. Everything was perfect in the house-beautiful kitchen with all the essentials, lovely decor and the most zen environment! We did yoga on the lanai, had outdoor showers every evening (perfectly secluded but one of the two outdoor showers does have a curtain. The bed was very comfortable and everything was spotless! I can’t express how much we enjoyed our time at this little oasis! Having laundry facilities was a huge bonus. I could not think of a single complaint or downside. This home is more beautiful in real life than in the pictures!! The only caveat I would make is that you will need a car to get around (which we always would so not an issue for us). If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat this is your place. No tv only added to the experience. At night we sat listening to all the creatures in the trees and lush vegetation. I would go back in a heartbeat.

What a wonderful place to call home for 6 nights! This house was even better than we anticipated. Surrounded by lush plants, this home offers the perfect balance of privacy and openness to the beautiful surroundings! Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable spaces for playing board games or reading, and comfy beds -- what more could one ask for!? Should we have the opportunity to visit the big island in the future, we would definitely stay here again. Many Mahalos!!

This house had it all! We loved the space it provided our family of four. The king sized beds were cozy and comfy. The open living room made us feel like we were outside without being outside. FULLY STOCKED kitchen was great! I didn't think I would like the outdoor showers, but I LOVED THEM. The hot shower was key to feeling less sticky. It was humid (December) and the ceiling fans were great for moving the air and keeping it cooler. This location was about one hour from waterfalls, the volcano, and Hilo. The nearest grocery store is 25 minutes from the house-wasn't a big deal for us though. So many details were thought of and made our stay even better than expected. So beautiful and peaceful!!

It was a pleasure to spend time in such a thoughtfully designed building. Love the outdoor shower. The coqui frogs are no joke, though.

Mahalo dear owners for sharing your beautiful home.
It is the most unique place we’ve been to.
Kitchen was stocked like at our home, showering outside with the rain and the birds singing... wow!
Everything worked perfectly. We we’ll sure come back when coming to Hawaii.

This place is really special - probably the coolest house/setting I have ever seen. We loved the kitchen, the trees off the patio, landscape, showers, beach - everything was absolutely amazing.

Wonderful garden with fresh avocados, pineapple, passion fruit and more. The house is just amazing, super clean and just a heavenly place for absolutely fair price.

This lovely place is sooo well outfitted. We needed nothing during our stay. Such nice, tasteful finishes throughout. Would highly recommend.

Peaceful, beautiful area, and this house. OMG the house is really cool and worth staying in no matter where on earth it might be. It is only better that it happens to be in this great little corner of paradise. Kalapana was great for us. We lover the farmers markets and all the beautiful surroundings. Kahena beach is a little too weird for me, but its cool nonetheless. Puna as a whole is great, but know that it is super hippy. If that's not your style you might be put off a bit. We thought it to be great. I would stay here again but if your planning to explore the whole island from here know that it is way out of the way from everything else. If that's what your looking for then you found the right place. We loved it.

The architecture was simply phenomenol. In a rainforest setting, surrounded by beautiful hawaiian plants. It was the perfect setting. The only place I will ever stay at on the hilo side. Must see and experience!

We loved everything about staying at Hale Ohai, from the drive there through lava fields, by beaches, and beautiful vegetation to the place itself! The open air screens were awesome; we loved listening and falling asleep to the bugs and frogs every night and stargazing on the patio area. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, and the outdoor showers were super fun. It's amazing how isolated it felt, although you're close to neighbors. Would definitely stay again!

We are returning guest. This design house is a great combination between hawaiian, japanese and modern design style. upon our arrivel the house was prepared for our stay. Very clean, fresh air comming in through the screens, a big bunch of flowers on the table, orcids japanese style in the living room,?orcids on tje towels in the bathroom. The lanai is great to view the stars by night. The sound of the coqui frogs was like a song when we fell asleep. Taking a showe under the stars was a great event, we missed nothing and felt like in paradise. A big Thank You to the owners for sharing their slice of paradise with us. Service was very good.Gas ran out one evening.Next morning it was filled up.

This is a very special house ! We liked the progressive style so much ! It is really cool and not overdecorated. The house is perfectly equipped, especially the kitchen is great. My wife and I were looking for a nice little getaway for our honeymoon, and were not disappointed when we stumbled across Hale Ohai. The house was amazing, the sounds of nature being as audible as they were, and showering outside took a bit of getting used to. But all and all it was fantastic. I would recommend this house to anyone who wants peace and quiet while staying on the big island!

The property was amazingly clean and I loved the eco construction. The guide gave very clear instruction as well as great tips for my vacation. We couldn't have asked for a better time. The outdoor showers were so cool and the open air concept was just what we needed to enjoy the trade winds. We'll be back...
