Enjoyed Yachats and walking along Trail 408 - paved path above rocky shore, tidepools, with access to sandy beach on the north end. Cape Perpetua is beautiful with several scenic hiking trails and beach overlooks.

There are some great hiking trails and beach trails in the area! Yachats is a short drive and has a bit bigger of a downtown than Waldport (lots of great restaurants), but I liked Waldport for it's isolation :)

Loved Devil's Churn, Cape Perpetua, the beach at Washburn state park. All just a few minutes away. But don't spend so much time out there that you and family can enjoy the closeness that this open space beach house provides.
  • Waldport

    Susan N.

Devil's Churn and Seal Rock were obviously amazing! The aquarium was nice to visit and had amazing displays but I agree with previous comments, it was overpriced. Definitely a tourist attraction. There is a little diner in Seal Rock that we had the best lunch, it's in an older strip mall on the east side of the highway.

Unfortunately, the weather was stormy so we mainly stayed inside. However, the view of the storm was scary, exciting, and had us glued to the windows to watch the lightning and feel the fierce thunder that shook the whole house!! We were up till the wee hours of the morning in awe of the show. The swivel recliners in front of the window were ideal for this spot so you could turn to watch the t.v. or the crashing of the waves outside in full view! Suggestion for guests who like to cook....Make the drive to Newport and shop for your groceries there. Grocery Outlet, other grocery stores, and Walmart are there and it's only about 15-20 min drive. Ray's grocery store in Waldport is ridiculously expensive!

Waldport is the perfect center to explore the Central Coast of Oregon. We are basically outdoor enthusiasts so we focus on nature viewing, hiking and kayaking. For viewing, don't miss Yaquina Head north of Newport, the Hatfield Center in Newport and both the Alsea and Yaquina Bays. For hiking the numerous hikes around Cape Perpetua can't be beat. For kayaking, the Alsea Bay and slough and Beaver Creek between Waldport and Newport are excellent. Florence is only 30 miles south and is another great place to explore. The Oregon Dunes are beautiful.

The view from the house is superb. We ate at the family owned Mexican restaurant a half block away which was very good. The views of the bridge and the bay are exquisite. Having a KichenAid mixer was great! The kitchen was very well stocked which made cooking and eating-in pleasurable. We also liked the coffee table because it was perfect for putting together a puzzle.

We were happy we could take our dog to Lunas to eat. It is nice that some people allow dogs.

  • Waldport

  • Waldport

    Wanda P.

We enjoyed Cape Perpetua - the Forest Service Visitor Center, Thor's Well, and the Amanda Statue (but take the trail from the Yachats end). Loved the Yaquina Head Lighthouse - saw whales up close feeding in the bay before heading to Baja. Go to Gracie's Sea Hag in Depoe Bay if you want excellent sea food and clam chowder in bread bowls.
  • Waldport

    Ivy S.

Love the location and easy walk to the beach. The amenities in the house are in great condition.
i love the upstair part where master bedroom is close to the kitchen which link to the laundry room and dinning table. Prefectly big area for kid to run around. The house isn't super kid friendly due to the big stair case but we just have to tell our kid to never go by themself. Downstair there is a big TV with surround sound for kid to watch TV or DVD. There another TV upload stair too. All ready even if there is a rainy day in your stay.
  • Waldport

    Andrew & Nina S.

All of the coast. We would recommend taking time to drive up the Alsea River and take a connecting road or forest road to one of the rivers either north or south of Waldport and drive down the river to complete the loop.
  • Waldport

The Chocolate Frog has lots of candy choices and a friendly helpful owner.
  • Waldport

    Rocky C.

The beach behind the house was our favorite spot! Lots of privacy and magnificent sunsets. In Waldport, Ray's was a great place for groceries, and the Alsea pier was fun to watch people go crabbing. Ona Restaurant had great food and service. Nearby Yachats had a really nice farmers market on Sunday, and the playground behind the community center was ideal for small children. Green Salmon Cafe was great for breakfasts and had a wide assortment of delicious caffeinated drinks.

So relaxing. Cell service was spotty which meant work couldn't reach us. It was perfect.
  • Waldport

Crabbing at the dock of the bay in Waldport lots of fun.

We've spent quite a lot of time near Waldport camping at Seal Rock, so know much about it. Favorite spots to be are at the wharf watching the boats and crabbing, and at the Bay when we have watched fireworks over the years. The wharf cafe has added a room for family seating and we found the food there near the wharf to be very good. If people have a boat, Waldport harbor and bay are fun places to use them and crabbing and fishing are fun.

We do drive up the coast to Newport, the Hatfield Marine Center, Aquarium near there, and on to Depoe Bay to watch the whales surface and the boats making it through the narrow channel into "The World's Smallest Harbor", as they advertise at Depoe Bay. This drive to Depoe Bay was very fruitful as there were 5 or 6 whales busy not far off shore. Very fun and exciting...
  • Waldport

    Wendell W.

The blow hole at Smelt Sands, be there near high tide, and Strawberry Hill beach, seals on the rocks and agates on the south beach.

  • Waldport

    Christine F.

it would have been perfect except for the bay, no launching a boat at low tide, if you launch at a higher tide you better get back before it's to late.

    Jaicelle S.

Not much to do in Wald port itself, but we rented a boat from Dock of the Bay and went crabbing in the bay for a few hours ($80 plus license). We went to Florence and Reedsport to visit family which is a nice drive down the coast and through the dunes where you can rent ATVs, sand rail rides or ride the big buggy. There's also a family fun center with go carts, b umber boats, minigolf, and a train ride.

  • Waldport

    Raylene S.

The beach right in front of the property is great for clamming during low tide and the crabbing docks were somewhat successful with our crab max nets. This property is located at the end of a culdesac so it was safe for my kids to ride their bikes. The view was great from the dining room.

    Sharon W.

Beach access was difficult to get to and neighbor at the end of the road went crazy yelling and screaming at us using the "f" word repeatly when we accidentally came up his beach path later at night when it was dark and we got lost trying to get back up the beach to our house! He scared my 13 year old daughter to death and made her cry! Also people in town were very rude. They made it very clear that they hate tourists! We would never stay in Waldport again!
  • Waldport

    Charles R. W.

Waldport has a decent grocery store, Ray's, and a nice pharmacy, High School Pharmacy. It's lacking good restaurants.
Nearby (4+ miles) Yachats has good restaurants, e.g., Luna, Drift Inn, Ona, et al ... all informal, like most of the Oregon Coast.
  • Waldport

    Ashley O.

The walkway to the beach was amazing. Flowers in bloom and all. Also big stump was a cool surprise that we didn't know would be right on the beach. It's also convenient that the town is so close so we could run in and grab grocery items we needed.
  • Waldport

    Jody B.

We loved that it was walking distance to quite a few stores and shops.
  • Waldport

    Mikael C.

Waldport is a great place if you have kids. It's close to everything fun but quiet and peaceful. Try the Seal Rock tide pools, crabbing off the docks in Alsea Bay, Newport's shops and restaurants, the Hatfield Marine Science Center, and don't miss the whale watching in Depot Bay!
  • Waldport

    Marie M.

There's a cool little skate park up on the hill above the highway, in a beautiful park like setting.
  • Waldport

We went to Newport, to the Yaquina Head lighthouse, and went down to Cobble Beach at low tide. Wonderful place! Easy to get to, great rangers, good tidepooling, and a bonus of a whale close in, "sharking".
  • Waldport

    Rebecca P.

We went north to Newport and enjoyed some fun family activities. Hatfield marine science center was free and the kids lived it. The older kids enjoyed dune surfing. The property had some games and puzzles for our down time at night.

    Barry V.

We really enjoyed the food at Luna Sea in Yachats! We also enjoyed the Discovery Marine Tours boat ride in Newport. As a runner, I loved my morning runs on the beach...amazing! We really enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit as well. Stunning ocean views from back deck!

The cabin is central to so many places of interest.
  • Waldport

    Jarett S.

When we showed up at our check in time the cleaning people were sitting on the front porch for an hour after we got there waiting for their ride. There was wrappers stuck in cushions of pull out couch and the sink was in desperate need of replacing, pots and pans outdated and in poor condition and the fridge smelled like fish. There was blinds missing in living room so privacy was an issue. The hot tub was nice and beds were nice but the overall experience staying was not what I expected from vacasa.

  • Waldport

    Kevin H.

It's a nice, quaint town. Beautiful staying on Alsea River. Waldport is a tiny town and doesn't have the amenities like Florence and Newport do. If you're looking for peace and quiet it's a good choice. However our location is right on the main hwy into town which the speed limit is 55. There's no way to take a local walk. Also, the traffic noise affects opening the homes front door and windows. Backyard was an exceptional view being right on the river with a huge backyard. Plenty of room for dogs and kids to run around.
  • Waldport

There is a rock shop on the north end of Yahaats. They have a dinosaur digging station in the back of their shop. I expected a roadside attraction scam fest- I was SO VERY wrong. This place is awesome- their digging for fossils activity was really great! My son loved excavating shark teeth and other treasures (all real fossils) with the tools they provided. Best $5 spent in a long time!

Good location, it is a quick ride to both Waldport if you need to run to the store, and just beyond Waldport is a great tide pool beach. Our favorite outdoor adventure was to the tide pools at Otter Rock. One person in our party had never visited a tide pool before and was amazed by the variety of life and the crystal clear water in the pools. The pools were very accessible with a paved path down and a flat, sandy beach.

We also drove down to visit Florence and Honeyman Park. Everyone loved the Florence bay area with the small shops and restaurants. It was only a 45 minute drive from the house. We also enjoyed the Newport Bay area for the same reasons. In addition, it was amazing to see the huge sea lions sunning on their own dock. On the drive home we visited Yaquina Head and saw a pod of whales breaching and blowing . We also enjoyed the trails for short hikes down .

If you just want a great burger and shake, go to Vicki's Big Wheel Drive Inn, just behind the Chevron Station before you cross over the bridge. It is much more than it appears. Inside counter for six and two tables each seating four. The food was wonderful with great local flavor. Don't miss $2.00 Tuesday! When we were there it was milk shakes, each two bucks and the locals were packin the place.

Loved how central it was to Newport and Yachats. Waldport isn't full of tourist like Newport so it was nice just to feel like you belong there. It is also a short drive to Newport to be a tourist. We went crabbing down at Alsea Bay and it was fun!

In Waldport, The Chocolate Frog has an amazing selection of taffy and chocolates (delivered fresh from Newport every Friday)! The shop's owner tipped us off that a local burger stand, Chubby's, had just won a competition for the best burgers in the county, so of course we had to try them - they were delicious!

In Tidewater, the nearby White Wolf Sanctuary is a lovely way to spend the afternoon. We watched the wolves peacefully nap and play, and were fortunate enough to pet one very friendly wolf, and hear them howl.

If you're dropping by Yachats, and love fruity desserts, the Drift Inn Cafe's Marionberry cobbler a la mode is pure perfection.

We took the boat whale watching tour taking off from nearby Depoe Bay led by very good science folks and loved seeing 3 (parts of) Gray Whales and maybe 8-9 spouts. 40.00 for 90 min. But for no cost, also consider going to Boiler Bay overlook just north of Depoe Bay where we saw even more whales including 2 good looks at the fluke upright.

I haven't felt this relaxed in years. The beach just outside our Cape Cod Cottage is beautiful, wide and wonderfully peaceful. The little coastal town of Yachats, where we visit yearly, is just down the road - small but charming. Come to this place if you just want to relax. Perfect for that.

Having a long, pretty clear beach to wander on allowed the children to run and play while not getting out of sight. There are sand dunes that brought some imaginative play as well.

We always choose to clean the beach while we are there at the coast and we collected a large bag of trash along with two large tubs -- possible tsunami debris. These we left for the waste management collectors to gather and dispose of or take where they belonged.

We also enjoyed the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport. There are a lot of marine organisms to see, and lots to learn about their rehabilitation programs. There is even a touching tank for young ones (and adults, too!).

The central Oregon coast is a beautiful area. The beaches are great to walk and hunt for natures treasures (agates, geodes, fossils). There are no great restaurants very close by. The best in the area is Beck's at the Whale Cove Inn in Depoe Bay. The M&P Thai on Newport Bay Front is the best Asian in the area.

We had good pizza at the Grand Central in Waldport and a great dinner in Yachats at Ona (also, great breakfast pastries and coffee at Bread & Roses Bakery). We loved Waldport because it is quieter than Newport or Lincoln City, which tend to be pretty touristy in mid-summer. There is much less traffic, and there is lots to see along the central and southern coast. The Alder Bistro is a great restaurant to add to the list of recommended places to eat in Yachats. Also, visit the video store which sells a great variety of local products, such as Portland ketchup.

watching the sandbars appear and disappear with the tide, watching the clam-diggers come and go, watch the crab boats come and go, watching the heron come out...repeat
drive down to Yachats, have lunch at Ona, then ice-cream next door, then pick up some fresh fish at Lunasea in between the two. The owner of Lunasea is also the skipper of a commercial fishing boat... he catches much of what they sell there, and it's super fresh. Take the fresh fish back and cook them up at the Red Door, while watching the sun go down and the fog creep in.

My husband and I brought family from Oklahoma to visit the Oregon Coast. The house comfortably fit four adults and one dog. The crabbing was excellent in Yaquina Bay. The dining room table worked well for a crab feed as well as a card game later in the evening.
  • Waldport

Loved the proximity to the beach and surroundings. The house was in the perfect location for what we were looking for - very peaceful. The interior was bright and sunny and the view was great. As far as we were concerned, the kitchen was well supplied with everything we needed. Very satisfied with our experience.

    Great location. Lovely weekend.
  • Waldport

    Marina S.

No direct beach view from house, but it is nestled in beautiful small dunes and grasses. About 20 ft. from the Westward facing deck, up a path, the ocean view spreads to the horizon and North, South beyond what the eye can see. It is an awesome sight and loved the fact the lovely little path opened up to a huge joy each time, seeing and experiencing the beach and open ocean vastness. The house walls are full of ocean, ships, paintings and one can see the house had lots of family and love in it. It is now a bit weathered, but there is some charm in this. I felt cozy and safe, and slept very well. My two corgi dogs could not get enough of the beach, neither could I. It was a marvelous time.

I forgot the name of the pizza place listed, but that was very good, and I recommend it for sure, and the little grocery store was nice for little last minute items. So that was great being so close to a little market.

While not "on" the beach, less than a 5 min. walk to the beach. Stock up on groceries in Newport or Florence and get your odds-n-ends from the little market in Waldport or Yechats. Great little coffee shop in Yecheats.
  • Waldport

    Marianne M.

We loved the Aquarium and Driftwood Beach.
  • Waldport

My only suggestion for the property would be to include an "AV" guide for using the CD stereo and DVD player. We ran into a bit of trouble toggling between the TV guide and the DVD player.
