If you're in search of a unique Chilean vacation, look no further than the fascinating city of Coquimbo! The bustling port town of 150,000 is a city of beautiful contrasts, surrounded by both ocean and rolling hills and plains, rich with both art and culture and natural beauty. From sunbathing on the beach to strolling the streets in search of sights to see, you're sure to find something that suits your tastes with one of our Coquimbo vacation rentals!
Located in the region of the same name, the city of Coquimbo is a great example of the unique history and culture of Northern Chile - and you can take most of it in on foot! The city is great for walking year-round, with many of the best sights and sounds conveniently grouped together in the same neighborhoods.
First on your list should be the Bario Inglés, or English Quarter, which holds most of the city's restaurants alongside plenty of cultural attractions. Plays and paintings await at the Centro Cultural Palace and Casa de las Artes. Just a few blocks to the south, admire the impressive architecture at Plaza de Armas Coquimbo and the towering Parroquia San Pedro de Coquimbo. When you're ready for a bite to eat, head east to the port and admire bobbing ships as you choose from one of many delicious restaurants for sampling local seafood!
After a delicious lunch at a venue like El Romane, treat yourself to a walk along the western coast. Alongside the crashing waves of the Pacific, the city's western end is an ideal access point for more landmarks, such as the vistas of the Mirador Los Navegantes or the majestic Third Millennium Cross sculpture.
Experiencing the coast from a distance - like from the dramatic cliffs of the Faro Punta Tortuga lighthouse - is a worthwhile experience, but far from the only way to enjoy the sea. After all, Coquimbo is just north of several sandy beaches and bays!
The smaller town of La Herradura offers sugar-white sands just to the southwest, while an amazing stretch of beach lines the Avenida Costanera to the east. Even more soft sands and crystal-clear waters are just a little farther away - from nearby Totoralillo to distant Playa Blanca, there's no shortage of breathtaking natural beauty to take in for anyone willing to look for it.
You might be far removed from famous Chilean cities like Santiago and Valparaíso, but there's plenty to see in nearby La Serena! Just eight miles away, the regional capital has its own selection of museums, monuments, and beaches to explore. Admire mile after mile of coastline from the Faro Monumental Lighthouse, or see an authentic Easter Island head at the Archeological Museum.
Ovalle, a lovely town just 53 miles to the south, provides a nice change of pace with its inland setting. Stunning views of the Andes await visitors of the peaceful city, as well as the rushing water of the Río Limarí to the south. There's even shopping at the Falabella Mall, so don't hesitate to treat yourself to a fun spree!
Settle for nothing less than the comfort of one of our vacation rentals on your next visit to Coquimbo - Chile never felt so inviting!
