As the snowy season quickly approaches, travelers are starting to plan their ski trips—and, in many cases, replan. According to our most recent survey, 61% of Americans who are planning a ski or snowboarding trip this winter are rebooking getaways they had to previously postpone due to COVID-19 and other factors.
The survey also discovered that more than half of respondents list affordability as a top priority when choosing their ski destination (the #1 answer), followed by convenience and access to slopes (48%) and a variety of slope terrains and/or levels of difficulty (44%). It all goes to show that there are many factors to consider when choosing the best ski destinations, and finding the right mountain may depend on your priorities.
We looked at the most popular places to ski this winter—based on Vacasa.com searches filtered for "ski-in/ski-out" over the past month—and divided the list into splurge and wallet-friendly categories. Because even though affordability was ranked as the most important factor, not every group is budget-conscious: a third of Gen Z and Millennials who are gearing up for a ski trip this winter say they’re going to bigger and better destinations than they’ve visited before.
So, from previous winter Olympic venues in British Columbia to more affordable and accessible slopes on the East Coast, these are the six top spots to hit the slopes this winter.
