Oceanfront home on the cliffs w/ stunning views, deck & amazing sunrises!
Hale Kai means Ocean House and it's easy to see where this home gets its name! At this oceanfront escape on the cliffs of Hawaiian Paradise Park, you'll enjoy beautiful, unobstructed ocean views, as well as a large wrap-around deck where you can barbecue, dine in the sun, and glimpse passing whales, turtles, and dolphins. Whether you're planning a family vacation or a romantic escape (proposals have even happened on this deck!), you'll love having wall-to-wall glass doors for watching the waves crash on the cliffs!
Hale Kai is located in the Hawaiian Paradise Park neighborhood, which sits just 17 miles south of Hilo and 12 miles north of Kapoho. You'll be half a mile from an oceanfront park on Beach Road, just across the neighborhood from a two-mile trail that leads through the jungle out to swimming access at Ha'ena (Shipman) Beach, and a few minutes from a grocery store, several cafes, and a gas station in Orchidland. Pahoa's cute shops are only 10 minutes away, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a 45-minute drive from the house.

Great Ocean views from the lanai. Lots of turtle sightings from the lava cliffs. very comfy home-open and airy.
We stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The house is very nice and very well equipped. The dramatic coastline is beautiful and watching the waves crash in kept us entertained. It is a 20 minute drive from Hilo but there are grocery stores within 10-15 minutes. Provided a great spot to explore the Eastern part of the island. About 45 minutes to Volcanoes National Park and about 1.5 hours to Waipi’o Valley. The house had everything we needed for a great stay.
House was in good shape and well stocked. Location on the ocean was beautiful! Not too far from Hilo area and good launching point for Volcano National Park and Puna area. Be ready for rain, as Hilo gets a lot of it!
Although a bit far from everything, the view and tranquility of this house more than makes up for it.
A lovely home on the ocean, the view is incredible! A clean, well maintained home full of the aloha spirit. We would love to visit again! Thanks
What a great house! Right on the ocean - with a great view of the coastline. The neighborhood was really quiet. The house provided a comfortable space for me and my two friends to relax. Nicely decorated and comfortable seating inside and out. Full kitchen-well equipped with newer appliances and all the pots/pans, dishes and utensils one could need. Everything was clean. We appreciated the use of a washer and dryer.
We loved the view of the ocean and seeing the turtles and whales. It was the perfect location to use to see the rest of the island. We visited Kona, Volcanoes National Park, Waipi'o Valley and more.
Comfortable, uncomplicated, well maintained and superlative view- we could go on and on but suffice to say, this rental is a home run!
This home is amazing..pictures do not do it justice! Home was spacious and clean, beds comfortable, plenty of beach supplies, views were amazing, home had plenty of outside areas, including covered porch. This home was a great value, you will not be disappointed!
We rented Hale Kai because of the ocean views. Watching the waves from the deck was a highlight. The house was clean and had all the amenities we needed. It's not fancy, but if you want a decent affordable place close to the Volcanoes National Park and at the water's edge, this is a great option!
We absolutely LOVED our stay at Hale Kai. The home was very nice and the setting was gorgeous. We felt comfortable the second we stepped in the door. The binder with information about the house, activities, shopping, etc was invaluable. We took it with us when we ventured out each day.
I am going to the Big Island since 10 years now and this was the fifth time I stayed in a rental house in the Haiwaii Paradise Park. In the 10 years I am going there not much has changed, it's still the laid back ,non touristy part of the Island. The house we stayed this time was spot clean, a very big functional kitchen with everything you need. The veranda around the house is right at the ocean and I live sleeping to the sound of the waves. We barbecued every night, good service that the gas bottle for the barbecue got changed within hours after we called. Actual the only thing we missed in the house was an umbrella. It rains a lot on the Hilo side, so you need one .
This is a great property. We almost always rent homes when we travel and this is one of the best units we have stayed at. It is a well-built home with a great design. From the deck there is a spectacular view of the water, which the pictures don't do justice. The living area is open and spacious. It comfortably accommodated our diverse party of four and could have handled six without a problem. Kitchen has all the necessary features. Another plus is a small open office that looked out on to the ocean, but is set back so I could work but still have a great view. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were quiet. Also the place was immaculate when we arrived. The location is great. Close enough to Hilo and also Pahoa and other small towns. Great secluded roads for running, and just .3 of mile down the road is access to a trail where you can hike along the coastline for miles.
The house was nicely located next to the oceans. We could see whales passing by in the morning. The house was very efficient in its amenities. The only bad side is that it is located far from Hilo and from any shop.
