We wanted for nothing. High enough up on the hill to feel privacy, but close enough to water and staying connected. The place was clean, provided all things as if you were home and windows that brought in nature while sitting on the recliner. We grilled. Sat out on that wrap around deck and watch the earth wake up and the incredible sunset. Every part of the property lead to outdoor beauty. 2 nights is not enough. I’m still thinking about it. We’re coming back. We’re going to stay longer. I could breathe. We felt happy. Thank you for your space and generous touches. We left more centered and relaxed.
The Vista Cabin was absolutely perfect. My friend who came is Italian and she kept walking around, saying things like "oh look, this is soo Italian". All the little touches were superb. Including the drawer in the kitchen with hardware items one might need.
Stunning views, beautiful cabin. We had a great, great time and if ever in Shelter Cove again, this is definitely the place to stay.
I hope we were good guests. We washed the larger dishes (pots/pans) but there was no dish washer soap.
The house was **** and span clean. Really, the entire experience was soo pleasant.
Thank you for letting us stay in the charming Vista Cabin.
The cabin is spacious, clean, comfortable and well kept. Location is very good -- a step away from the town with views of the ocean but close enough to commercial 'downtown'. The manager was easy to communicate and responsive to our requests. On the last day, we had car problems and the owner and the manager showed a lot of patience and generosity by allowing us to stay the whole day without charge. Thank you guys for understanding and support.
The photos of this property do not do it any kind of justice.
When I booked it, I thought the property/furniture looked a bit worn, but I could not have been more wrong. Everything was amazing. I have no words for the views from this property. I have never seen anything like it. As a native Californian from the Bay Area, I had almost forgotten how gorgeous undeveloped coastline was.
I have never stayed at a rental property that was this well-appointed. They had literally everything you would need. The town was beautiful, the people are so friendly, I can't gush enough.
The only complaint I have, which is of no fault of anyone, is the drive there. They weren't kidding when they said it is a long, winding road. Lots of hair-pin turns. We will definitely be back but will make a plan to stay in Shelter Cove for the entirety of our vacation, rather than leaving each day to do touristy things. There is enough to do in Shelter Cove to keep you occupied without ever having to leave.
Thank you Machi family! We will be back!
Fantastic views, very clean. We loved it!
This is a great place in Shelter Cove with access to the lost coast, great local restaurants and just a relaxing place to stay.
This place is better than the photos! I would highly recommend and can't wait to come back! It was the best vacation I have had in a long time!
I really enjoyed this house. It was perfect for our visit to shelter cove. The views from the back deck are amazing. You dont see any other homes, just breathtaking coastline stretching away from your feet. The home itself is well appointed and has everything you would need for basic meal prep and staying comfortably. It was clean and ready for us when we arrived. We stayed for 3 days and really loved walking around, eating everything available, and going to the beach.
Upon leaving, I was not able to find exact directions for check out though. There are many correspondences to weed through. I took our trash and left no dishes in the sink. I did not vacuum or do the sheets. Maybe this would help you avoid getting hit with an additional cleaning fee. They also said I had a dog on the property. I am a dog owner but she stayed home. Possible dog hair definitely could have been transferred and I just paid the extra 90 on top of the already quite high cleaning fee but I feel like it is worth mentioning to help others avoid this.
We had a fantastic stay. The view is great and we very much enjoyed fresh fish for dinner caught from our kayaks. Great place to launch kayaks, quiet and sheltered. The house was perfect and provided plenty of privacy. We enjoyed watching the fox hunt below the deck and the large buck was nice to watch as well. Can't wait to come back again.
Great home for relaxing and getting to experience the Lost Coast. Just sad that our time was so short. Had everything that you would need. Oh yes, and the VIEWS! This is the place for that! We LOVED it.
This quiet and charming cabin on the hillside is a great family rental! Everything was incredibly clean with many small touches that were above and beyond. Our group really appreciated the clear directions and detailed notes throughout the house.
Our family of 4 had an amazing stay here! Comfortable. Had everything we could have possibly needed for food prep to games. Good location.
Great trip to hike among the giants and experience Humboldt County.
We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We appreciated the ceiling fans and would have liked to have had air conditioning due to the hot temperatures (92F) that weekend. Very unusual not to have good, cool sleeping weather on the coast.
This property and its view of Shelter Cove is awesome. Each day we enjoyed the amazing ocean views from the wrap around deck and from within the house through the numerous large windows. Great location. The house is a short 10 minute walk from the marina and tide pools which was very convenient for frequent beach combing excursions. Access to the Lost Coast beach trail is only a short drive away. The house itself was very spacious, clean, well kept. Beds were clean and comfortable. Several members of our family enjoy cooking and we found the kitchen to be well equipped and met our needs. We were pleased to find the "General Store", just a few miles from the house, was well stocked with groceries, something we did not expect. We also discovered that Shelter Cove Vista Cabin has a very special connection to the history of Shelter Cove in that it was once occupied by one of the original founders of the community. May I suggest that this fact be shared as it may be of considerable interest to future guests. Our family's visit to Shelter Cove was memorable; it truly is the "Gem of the Lost Coast" and well worth the drive. If we were to return, and I hope we will, Shelter Cove Vista Cabin would definitely be our lodging of choice. Heartfelt thanks to the owner for sharing your home with our family.
Really wonderful house in a beautiful town; comfortable and safe for little kids (including a nice washer/dryer), and great neighbors who took the time to call me about a package that arrived for us after we left. We stayed there to do the Avenue of the Giants marathon in Weott (about an hour north) and would love to go back to explore the Lost Coast trail, which has a trailhead a couple miles away.
We had a good four-night stay at the Shelter Cove Vista Cabin. The views were spectacular. The house was clean and in good shape and included a bunch of games in case of a rainy day. We saw the tidal pools, black beach, and giant redwoods. My only complaint was checkout is at 10 and by that time you have to have all linens and towels washed and in the dryer, so final morning is hectic.
Great location, easy to find, great view. Amenities were awesome. Our family really enjoyed ourselves. Our only complaint was the early check-out time and the charges if you requested a later check out time. When we are on vacation we like to take our time instead of rushing. So a 11 am check out time would be more suitable considering the rental wants us to wash the laundry we used before we leave. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back.
