Washer/dryer : Private
The highlight was definitely the common area and the deck. Ocean view and deck furnishings were a hit. Pretty decent price for an ocean view.
Excellent value. Good location, handy to Nye Bch shops, restaurants, and beach. Beach access across street is close, but several steps down – use beach access up the road at park or Nye Beach public access if you're stair-averse.
Nice big wrap-around deck w/ocean view. Beds moderately comfortable. Nice to have windows that open in the bedrooms.
Good-sized living area. Kitchen is well-stocked. Nice amount of bathroom counter space. Plenty of towels. Appreciated the liquid hand soaps at sinks vs. the usual messy bar soaps.
Unit has some condition issues: Strong musty, mildew-ey smell, especially just inside the entrance. Also, there was what looked like it could be either some mold or long-established cobwebs (or both?) in one corner of one of the bedrooms. One kitchen cabinet door was ½-way off its hinges. The bathroom sink fills with water when running water & faucets drip after turning off water. Bottom of tub has stain/adhesive outline left from previous rubber mat; very unsightly & unclean looking. Wicker furniture on deck completely weather-worn & needs to be replaced. [Yes, I could’ve notified management of these issues during the stay, but preferred NOT to spend precious vacation time scheduling around maintenance work]
Observations/suggestions for improvement: Was disappointed that there was no TV in bedrooms. Very dark in shower – a light (or even window, since it’s an exterior wall) over the shower would be helpful. Very noisy from unit below, if occupied. Several windows could use better covering for privacy, and light blockage.
Thanks to Vacasa for the late check-out option, making it possible to enjoy the last day of the stay instead of only having enough time for basic check-out clean-up, re-packing & loading the car.
We appreciate receiving such thorough feedback. The cabinet has been fixed, sink has been repaired, and the cobwebs are removed. The property manager is working with the owner regarding window coverings and the light in the bathroom. Thank you!
The place made you feel like home. I have never been to Newport so this home really made my vacation one to remember. The view of the beach was awesome and so close.
We liked this place a lot. The location isn't perfect -- it's across a busy street from the beach, and there's a hotel on the other side of the street that kind of messes up the view. Still, you can see the ocean just fine from the deck, and it's easy to get down to the beach. The house hasn't been updated much and some things show signs of wear (broken plastic cups in the cabinet, etc), but it was perfectly comfortable and not a bad value for the price.
Great location, beautiful view, comfortable beds, everything you need for a getaway.., TV in bedroom is only thing that would make it nicer
We've stayed here twice and would stay again. Great location, across the street from beach access, and a short walk to the Nye Beach district. Easy drive to the historic bay front. The furnishing are a little worn and scuffed, if that's important to you, but it's clean and cozy enough for our family.
Very clean, everything was just right. Beautiful view from top deck. Very satisfied
A beautiful place to stay. Beautiful view, comfortable beds and plenty of room. Extra fee for cleaning out of line and telling us to strip beds, start wash, start dishwasher and take out the trash .
The property is located in a perfect place, it let you see the sea from the porch where you can relax and enjoy the sunset. Also the access to the beach is just across the street.
The views were great and the cabin was clean and cozy! It was within walking distance to everything. Didn't realize it was a cliff on the beach but we were right in front of stairs worth beach access. Would appreciate them fixing the toilet and shower. The toilet ran all the time and was hard to fully flush. The shower pressure was way too strong and couldn't really be adjusted without filling the tub. Overall it was great and cozy!
The shower plumbing has been cleaned out and the toilet float has been adjusted. We appreciate having these items brought to our attention.
I felt very comfortable. It did feel like it was your "buddies" beach house. For some that is great..but you want to feel like it's a step above when you are paying. It had what is needed..towels, cleaning supplies, dishes etc.. we had 4 guests and ran out of hot water every time.
We loved the couch..evening time was very comfortable. Unit was clean and homey. Beach access was great and was able to see the sunset.
Overall I liked it..and enjoyed our stay
When you look online for a place to stay, it's often difficult to know what you're getting. So we were very excited when we arrived at the Beach Retreat. There is a lot to do in the area, great walks, and we would recommend Harmony Yoga and Bier 1 as places to go. Thank you! We will be back.
This is a cute little duplex. We had the upstairs and my kids and I felt very comfortable. Other than the bedroom having ceiling tiles that look as if they will come down any time, the overall stay was great. I would stay there again.
Property was well kept and very cozy. Would stay here again.
We were very pleased to find the Beach Retreat in Newport for our family vacation for Spring Break. It's in an fantastic location in the heart of Newport with nice ocean views and easy access to the beach just across the street. The two bedroom unit is spacious and bright, and has a fantastic large deck for use in nice weather. Nye Beach shops & restaurants, The Oregon Coast Aquarium, Newport waterfront, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and the Newport Rec Center/Pool are within walking distance or a 5 minute drive.location. There is also a great rock outcropping with good tide pools to explore just 1/4 mile up the beach.
The unit itself and its furnishings are a little tired and threadbare - clearly a vacation home. However, it was also one of the best appointed rental units we have ever stayed in anywhere. It has all the amenities needed for an extended family stay, including a full kitchen, with plenty of quality cookware, utensils, plates, glasses, etc. NOTE: Though you can't see it in the pictures, the unit DOES have a full-sized oven. Beds are comfortable, with lots of extra pillows & blankets, as well as a nice supply of both bathroom and beach towels. TV & video equipment were very good, and the secure WiFi was excellent. The laundry facilities are also a big plus.
It's worth noting that this is the upper level of a two-unit duplex, with an equally nice ground floor unit underneath. Vacasa manages both, and there's a discount if you rent the two units together - making it a great place for a larger family or two families. Our friends stayed in the lower unit so we could enjoy a multi family vacation in one place. OUTSTANDING!
Positives- the price was excellent and the view is great from the upper balcony. Lots of Windows with screens for a nice breeze through the house. Comfortable couch. Lots of seating in the living room.
Kitchen has some upgrades and basic necessities to cook.
Negatives- Odd smell that was very off-putting when we first arrived. Beds were decent if you're super tired and just want to pass out :)
The carpet kind of grossed me out- I was thankful for slippers. The whole place could really use a good deep-cleaning.
Overall- we spent the weekend staying IN and had a great time. I thought the house was very fairly priced.
This unit has just been deep cleaned, and a carpet cleaning is scheduled for the near future. We apologize for the disappointments this guest experienced during their stay.
We had a great stay. We would definitely stay here again.
Imagine that a good friend of yours has a nice place at the beach. Well, this is it. Comfortable, roomy, spotless, well kept, and quiet. Nicer than the price would indicate. One of the few properties on Elizabeth Street whose view of the ocean is not blocked by the Shilo Inn. We definitely will come back again.
We are looking forward to a future trip.
Pleasant upstairs condo, comfy beds, lovely porch, quiet. Everything we wanted!
The house was nice. There is a balcony with a view of the ocean, though it is right in front of Elizabeth Street. It's a good location, within walking distance to the beach and to shops.
Very clean, quiet and the view from the Upper Retreat was awesome.
The unit is nice as far as comfort and space. It looks across the street at the ocean,p we knew that coming in. It is convenient to both downtown and Nyes Beach.
We enjoyed our stay!! The beds are comfortable, and we had everything we needed. The view and balcony are awesome!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This was the perfect place for our family with three small boys in tow. The beach was close for easy entertainment, Newport and the surrounding area have so much to offer. We only stayed for two days next time we would love to stay a lot longer. The beds were comfortable, it was nice to have a kitchen as eating out can get spendy. The views from the deck are absolutely amazing expecially at sunset. I would recommend bringing a pair of binoculars as we could see the whales spouting and jumping in the water from the deck and it would have been nice to get a closer look. Nobody wanted to leave. We will most definitely stay again and would love to make this a vacation destination yearly!
We planned to get away for a friends wedding. When the wedding didn't pan out the way it was supposed to, the house was a very welcome respite. We never gave the wedding another thought. It made foe a nice weekend in a excellent location!
The location was nice, the view was decent, area was quiet, we even made a joke over breakfast about two cars on the road being a "traffic jam."
Couches were comfy, at night we watched the sunset and rented movies. The deck is amazing. Down stairs had a grill though, it would have been even better to have one too.
Overall it was a great stay. We'll be back.
The property had great view of the ocean and a nice deck to lounge or enjoy a meal (when it wasn't too windy). It was also clean and spacious enough for 4 people. However, we could definitely hear noise and music from downstairs unit so it was not a peaceful experience and the property is older than how it is represented in the photos. I guess you get what you pay for...the price was ok but we would not stay here again. We have rented other coastal properties through vascasa and most disappointed with this one.
We had a wonderful time and the house was perfect..gave me the ability to save money on eating out with my 4 children as well as the ability to wash and dry wet dirty clothing as needed...we would love to plan on coming down again next year..:)
Great spot and location on the Oregon Coast. Simple, relaxing accommodations.
