Quiet location with beautiful views.

Convenient to Fort Lewis, downtown and cozy. Beds are very comfortable. Although cleaning people had not come before we checked in ( they sent early check in message but ain’t prepared) we still were able to get in a bit early and thoroughly enjoyed the yard and home!

Had a great time. House was clean and everything worked. Comfortable. Family from three states met up together to enjoy some fun time together. We loved the 922 La Plata house. Deer in the yard in the morning. Will recommend and book it again in future!
Amber H. Oct 2018
Enjoyed the deer, the convenient location to downtown, the comfortable bedding, and the grassy lawn with a view. The view of Durango from the campus across the road is worth the walk or quick bike ride. Highly recommend Home Slice Pizza just down the hill.

We stayed at La Plata View with 5 adults over two nights while visiting Mesa Verde. The home is clean and well-appointed, with plenty of room to spread out and watch TV or play games. The front lawn, looking out at the mountains, is beautiful and has outdoor seating. I especially appreciated the communication items, including email and in-home notices. The driveway is a bit tricky to find; don't use your phone! Just follow the email directions. Don't look for a county road sign, just look for 922 on the black mailbox on College Drive (it's almost directly across from the college tennis courts).

The beds were super comfy, it was super clean and we didn’t cook much but had everything you’d need if you wanted to. Close to town and nice views. We enjoyed it and would definitely go back!

This is a beautiful and comfortable home. It's close to Durango, making it very convenient to enjoy restaurants, shops and the train. Wish we been renters in the winter, so we could use the fire place! While there was only one bathroom, we were able to make it work with 3 couples.

Efficient, clean, new feeling home against the mountain side with green grass and lawn chairs to hang out in. Exactly what we needed! Thanks.

Really nice inside, great location for both Fort Lewis College business and for getting into downtown Durango. Nice privacy, views, well equipped kitchen, high quality linens, plenty of space. I would come back to this house for sure if I return to Durango.

We really enjoyed this property and so did our kiddos! We hope to return again!!
Diane S. May 2018
Our family of 6 loved were visiting for the FLC graduation. We had 3 generations and this home was easy for the grandparents to maneuver with only three steps to enter. Liked the early check-in. Kitchen was well stocked and we prepared most of our meals. Loved the patio and grill. Close to campus and downtown. This house has it all, clean, modern, comfortable. Private setting. We loved every minute of our stay!
Justin H. Apr 2018
The deer get very close to the house and really add to overall experience

Nice view and lots of deer wondering property.
Aaron J. Oct 2017
We had a very nice stay and enjoyed the accommodations very much. There’s so much to do in and near Durango we didn’t have much time to enjoy the property. It’s tucked away with privacy to relax and enjoy the surroundings so our only regret is we didn’t get to do that more.

THis is a lovely property. THe house is very roomy and the beds are extremely comfortable. THe home was spotlessly clean. THere is a fun gas fireplace fo chilly nights. The location is very convienent and the views are great. You can hear a little bit of road noise but it is not a busy street and this did not bother us. Strongly recommend the property. It is very near Fort Lewis so would be especially convienent for those attending college functions. IT is a 3-5 minute drive from town, so very convienent, with a bit of a country feel. We had deer in the yard and saw coyote scat as well. THere is a horseshoe pit and outdoor grill. We had a great stay.

this was a great house to stay in , getting hot water was are only real problem , hopefully they can fix that
Jonathan R. Sep 2017
Boy, I really wish this was a 5-star review, because it's so close.

PROS
The location was great. Having grown up in Durango, I knew it was a quieter part of town, but so close to destinations to the south, north, or right downtown. Never saw another neighbor or heard anyone.

The house was clean (minus one major item I'll explain later). The bedding was soft and nice, the furniture clean and neat, and the kitchen worked well for us with nice dishes to boot. I should also mention there were a ton of windows with the best blinds that I need to buy someday.

The view out the large window is so nice during sunset, and since you're in a small vale, the sun rise is beautiful while you're in the shadow until mid-morning.

The porch and yard were nice for eating and socializing out of doors.

QUIRKS
There is a little step up in the hallway which you will likely trip on for a couple of days until you get used to it.

The AC is a small window unit. It works fairly well but is super loud. Just open the windows at night to keep cool.

Couldn't find the trashcan outside--likely due to bears. However, it'd be nice if they had something with a lock or something so I didn't have to collect trash inside.

CONS
Ok, so the first item is the water heater. On the first morning after a nice run, I was ready to shower, but the shower wasn't ready for me. I started running water in the bathroom sink and it was cold for more than 10 minutes. I looked at the heater, and after getting shocked, I realized that it was electric. I called Vacasa and they were awesome, they were about to send and urgent request to get it fixed, but I felt that the water was getting warmer. I asked them to hold off and sure enough I had hot water after running it for 20 mins.

I thought everything was ok, then as we were getting ready for a wedding the next day, no hot water again. This time there was no time to wait so I took a cold shower. However, hot water returned that night. The next morning no hot water... once again we were in a hurry to get somewhere and didn't have time to get it fixed. I hope this is something they fix for future guests.

Another con was that we noticed mouse traps in the drawers in one of the bedrooms. My wife is quite rodent-phobic and this wasn't a nice addition. Especially, since the next morning we noticed our food had been nibbled on in the kitchen. I bought traps, and this sneaky beast ate all the bait and some more food. I made the traps more responsive and caught the sucker the next day. He was big and smart, but now he's gone. You're welcome. I put out other traps the rest of the time we were there, but no sign of any more mice.

I so want to stay here again, but will need to know that the hot water will be there and rodents are not.
Manager response:
We appreciate having the opportunity to respond to this review. Electric hot water heater was reset and is working but we're also working with owner and plumber to permanently fix hot water issue by replacing either the heating element or the entire water heater. As for the mice in the home, we have been setting several traps and removing the rodents from the home. We are taking preventative measures to keep them from coming in as well, by putting steel wool and expanding foam spray in any cracks and holes in the exterior of home. The little step inside the side door in living room area now has black and yellow striped caution tape, making it more visible and safe for guests who aren't used to it.

Roomy home, well appointed and stocked, lovely setting sitting above all other homes and behind a pretty ridge. Extremely convenient to FLC, and off the main road from the mesa down into town so this literally a 2 minute drive down. Everything was comfy, and the peace at night was wonderful. Great stay/home, will be back as we've a student at FLC.
Brianna D. Aug 2017
This house is very cozy and very convenient to downtown Durango. We enjoyed our time here and would definitely return in the future!
Susan R. Aug 2017
Very clean, great location, had it all and more!
Gillian T. Jul 2017
Cute home a mile from the town. Everything was very convenient, restaurants, shopping, even a yoga studio which I was thrilled to see!
The back drop was beautiful as was the sunset.
Todd S. Jul 2017
Our first visit in the summer. A lot to do and we really enjoyed our time here hiking, whitewater rafting and horseback riding. The home is up by the college, not walking distance to downtown. But, it was quiet and well appointed for what we needed. Even had a young mule deer over for breakfast each morning. The amenities were all excellent and in good working order. The grill and washer/dryer were especially nice. Would definitely refer friends to this location.
Elaine K. Jul 2017
Our family of 5 stayed in the house for 5 nights and it was great! The house was cleaned perfectly and had everything we needed - we were very comfortable. It's very quiet at the top of this hill and we slept with the windows open. Every morning, we'd watch the deer eating breakfast in the front yard. Just a quick drive down the hill to downtown. Highly recommend!!
Janis O. Jul 2017
This house was perfect for our family - grandparents, and family of four with children ages 9 and 6. The location is excellent for visiting downtown Durango and also for taking the Rio Grande steam train. The kitchen is very functional for having meals in. For some families it may be an issue only having one bathroom for 6 people but it was not for ours. There is a nice view from the front of the house and plenty of chairs to sit in outside when weather permits. For the price we thought this house was Great!!!
Michael B. Jul 2017
The cabin was very neat and clean. The view from the front yard is amazing and the cabin was in a perfect location. The beds were also very comfortable. I woukd definitely stay here again!
Steve S. Jun 2017
House was as advertised, clean and comfortable with a great view.
Gloria K. May 2017
The house doesn't seem that small when you have such big views! Close to trails and town, but you still feel like you are getting away from it all.
Julie R. May 2017
The house was very clean and nicely furnished with comfy beds and linens. The outside yard & view are beautiful. It is close to the FLC campus and we stayed there for graduation weekend. Mountain bike trails are accessible right from the house! You'll need to drive to downtown.
Michael C. Jan 2017
Enjoyed our stay here! Driveway requires 4WD in snow!
Carol P. Dec 2016
Great location.
Jenny K. Nov 2016
Great spot!
Andrew H. Oct 2016
I highly recommend this location, as it is close to everything yet nicely secluded and has some fantastic views! Great place, and would definitely go again.
Mary H. Oct 2016
The house was very clean, and the kitchen was very well equipped. The only issue we had was finding the house when we arrived after dark. It would be helpful to note to renters that the house is at the driveway of the mailbox marked 922, but the house is up the hill past other houses. We went in and out of several driveways before we actually found the house. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this rental property. Thanks for sharing your home!
Cynthia S. Oct 2016
We were in Durango for 3 days to ride the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge railroad ( a stellar experience) and see the glorious fall colors. We were very please with the home's location which was about a mile from downtown and the train depot. It was far enough away to be a quiet location with great views, yet close enough that we could zip into town in about 10 minutes. We enjoyed the well appointed home, especially the day we were visited by a small herd of deer that camped out on the property. The 3 bedrooms are small, and there is only one bath, but everything is clean and new. Fort Lewis College is just up the road from the property and the short circle drive around campus has some outstanding views of Durango. We had some bumps with this property, no ice in the freezer and a power and water outage, but I'm sure those bugs will be worked out. Overall, a thumbs up for a nice place to stay in Durango.

EXCELLENT VERY CLEAN AND HOMEY
Joseph D. Sep 2016
Rental was nicely furnished with plenty of space and in a great location. House was like brand new.
Janice L. Sep 2016
Our expectations were greatly exceeded by this unit. We were 5 adults, including our 94 year old mom with mobility issues. Finding an easy access unit was paramount and this was almost perfect. It had been newly remodeled so everything was bright and clean. We found that there were even more amenities than we had been led to believe from the listing - microwave, DVD player, bluetooth speaker, hair dryer and more. We highly recommend this unit. It is close to town on a major road, but placed far enough back that it never was a bother, even when sitting outside on the porch or in the lawn chairs.
