Updated Victorian w/ deck, porch & yard - close to the river, trails & downtown!

The best of Durango will be at your fingertips in this three-bedroom Victorian home, a beautifully updated historic property with a private deck and porch, upstairs air conditioner, new carpet, an expansive yard, and an outstanding location close to hiking trails, a beloved local bike path, and the banks of the Animas River.

This two-level home sits just two miles north of downtown Durango, which you can easily reach on the Animas River bike path only three blocks away. You'll be only one block from Main Avenue, three blocks from Memorial Park on the riverfront, four blocks from the Animas Mountain Trailhead, and 25 miles south of the ski slopes of Purgatory Resort.

Whether you're vacationing with your family or enjoying a couples' getaway, the thoughtful furnishings, high ceilings, and bright rooms will make you feel at home. Recuperate from an invigorating morning hike by reading the newspaper on the leather sofa, using the WiFi to post a few photos, and watching your favorite cable shows on the flatscreen TV.

Prepare homemade pancakes and scrambled eggs in the full kitchen, a welcoming space that blends charming country decor with sleek stainless steel appliances. Throw some strawberries and bananas in the blender, sip a cup of coffee in the breakfast nook, and set the six-person dining room table for breakfast in the light of the south-facing window.

Stack the plates in the dishwasher for easy cleanup and head outside to enjoy the Southwest Colorado sunshine. Bring along your bikes for a two-mile ride into downtown Durango, watch your children as they play tag in the yard, or get lost in a novel on the back deck. Come mealtime, you can flip burgers and hot dogs on the gas grill and gather for lunch around the patio table.

As the day comes to an end, throw your biking and hiking clothes in the private washer/dryer and take a seat on the front porch with a cold beer or a glass of wine. The kids can retreat to the den just off the dining room, where they'll find a comfortable couch and a second TV to watch a few family favorites.

With three bedrooms and two full bathrooms, this valley view home will accommodate as many as six guests. Head upstairs to find the master suite, which features a queen-size bed, a flatscreen TV, and an attached bathroom with a claw-foot tub and a hand-held showerhead. The two guest rooms offer a queen-size bed and a pair of twin beds, respectively, while the second bathroom adjacent to the kitchen has a stand-up shower.

Thanks to its ideal blend of valley views, close proximity to nature, and in-town convenience, this home is the perfect base for discovering the beauties of Durango. Head three blocks east to picnic on the shores of the Animas River in Memorial Park, or follow the waterfront bike path to peruse the shops, restaurants, and entertainment in the heart of downtown Durango.

This home is located right behind 81301 Coffee Shop, Durango Artisan Foods, and local favorite Zia Taqueria. Also within walking distance to City Market, Bird's Restaurant, Chainless Brewery, Animas Mountain Trail, and the Durango Recreation Center.

Spend winter days on the slopes of Purgatory to the north, where you'll have 94 trails, five terrain parks, and an always-entertaining tubing hill to choose from. Head 20 miles east to go boating, fishing, or cross-country skiing at Vallecito Lake, or take an unforgettable trip back through time in the incredible cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park just 37 miles west.

The Valley Victorian was perfect for our family of three's quick stay in Durango. The house was very comfortable and the location was just where we wanted to be.

We loved it - parents in mid-50s + 17-year-old and a 21-year-old daughter. We loved walking down to the river, and then walking downtown. Found downtown charming. Drove up for hikes at Ice Lakes and another wonderful trail across from the entrance to Purgatory. We encountered a buck deer in the front yard when we pulled up, and one morning we awoke to bear poop beside the front door. That was cool. We found the 19th century house enchanting, and wondered about the families that had spent their lives in the home. We also wondered if it had ghosts, and concluded that if it did they were kind ghosts. Great place!

House is roomy enough for a family with kids to spread out including the yard, to burn off energy.
Very comfortable and accommodating layout.

Loved the house, but the three bedrooms are upstairs with one tub/bathroom. The second bath with shower is downstairs by the kitchen. You have to walk down the stairs through the living and dining area, through the kitchen to take a shower. Not cool!
Parking is another issue. The website directions tell you to park behind the house. The problem is, the garage you park behind is only accessible from an alley and the gate to the backyard is locked. Don’t struggle like us and try to get over the fence.
They should tell you to park in front of the house on the street. Otherwise, you have to unlock the front door by the lockbox, exit through the back door and unlock the gate.
Manager response:
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Elizabeth. We are delighted to hear that you loved this home. We are sorry if the layout wasn’t ideal, and we encourage you to check out our virtual tour for a detailed view. Due to the nature of this beautiful victorian-style home, the upstairs master offers a clawfoot bathtub with a detachable shower spray handle, as the downstairs bathroom offers both a shower and tub. Parking is available in the back of the home through the alley or in the front of the home on the street, and please note you can easily open the gate on the unlocked fence by pulling the cord to unlatch. We hope to have another chance to impress you in the future!

What a lovely home! It could comfortably house a family, and was so impressed by how clean every room in the house was. Would love to stay again! Just a gorgeous home.

This house was the perfect size for our small group of adults. The upstairs window had an AC unit and it kept that entire house cool. We enjoyed the location as it was very close to all amenities. The grocery store was in walking distance and the neighborhood was quiet.

Very clean and functional for a few people. Only one shower. Pricey but I guess all of Durango that way.
Joan N. Jul 2019
This house was perfect for us. Great kitchen with everything you could possibly need. 2 nice sitting rooms which was great for everyone to spread out. The house is really neat because it has so much character due to its age - lots of books & crannies. The location was also great - just a few minutes from town & next to a great taco place.

Thought it would be closer to downtown, once we figured out
the trolley bus that that take you there, it was better. Nice river park across the street.
Judy T. Sep 2018
Close to river & walking path, grocery store, as well as downtown.
James E. Sep 2018
The House was great. Loved everything about but the location. We wish it was closer to Main Street downtown. I would still highly recommend it.
Henry D. Sep 2018
Nicely equipped kitchen. Upstairs windows need work--be careful when opening & closing them. Nice patio and grill.

This house was a great place to use as a home base for exploring the area. We are a family of 5 and everyone slept comfortably.
The kitchen had everything we needed. We enjoyed Mesa Verde, Purgatory Ski resort, Silverton, Ouray, Alpine Loop and kayaking. We love the area and plan to return.

Charming old house in great location! Enjoyed walking to the coffee shop down the street in the morning. Also, the Mexican restaurant next to the coffee shop was amazing too! Only complaint was how hot it was sleeping upstairs at night but cannot control the weather. Loved this cute house and Durango too!

Our family of 5 with a teen, a pre-teen, and my mother in law we’re all able to enjoy the spaciousness and amenities at the Valley Victorian! It is conveniently located and easy to get to! It’s is a little run down (as any old house would be) and the living room carpet is stained, but it was clean and way more comfortable than renting numerous hotel rooms! We would definitely rent again!

We did love this house with all of its historic charm. It is spacious and the kitchen had all we needed. The back porch with the giant old cherry tree is so relaxing. Much of the house is updated in keeping with the period of the house with some nice modern upgrades like the granite countertops. Some of the House could use more updating, especially upstairs. Our one complaint is that the floors -specifically the carpet- did not appear or feel clean. They need to be shampooed or replaced. The carpet upstairs is white but it is almost black around the trim. Downstairs it is stained and somewhat matted. I wanted to vacuum and the vacuum cleaner was filled to the brim with dirt. No wonder the carpet felt dirty. A vacuum works better when the bag or canister is empty. Otherwise we really lived this house and did not mind that the shower was downstairs. The downstairs bathroom is charming. We had a nice time.
Manager response:
We have shampooed the carpets and replaced the vacuum cleaner. Thank you!

We loved the house-it is clean and close to town but not in the middle of all the action (just a bus ride or a short car ride to the town center); it is also just across the street from a grocery store and several small restaurants/stores. It is perfect for a family with kids; it has a great kitchen and washer/dryer to do laundry.

The house is a charming, newly renovated Victorian home. It was very clean with an extremely well equipped kitchen. Nice bedding, towels, and toiletries. It is worth noting that while there are two full baths, one is downstairs off the kitchen and the other is upstairs in the master bedroom with a tub but no shower. You have to walk through the master bedroom to access the upstairs bath. Overall, we had a lovely stay and felt very at-home. We even added an extra night.

We really enjoyed staying at the house. We had a wonderful time!!!!!!

Wonderfully appointed and cozy home.

We loved this sweet home for our vacation. The deer walked down the middle of the road in the morning. We are from the Front Range and met our son from California in Durango for the weekend. The spot was perfect, with hiking, river play, yummy coffee, beer, and food close by. The living room was a pleasant place to relax, and we all slept well in the upstairs bedrooms. The fans were key to keeping cool at night.

We had the most wonderful stay at an adorable historic Victorian home located in the valley of Durango, Colorado. It is quiet, private with tall pines in front and a quaint porch on the back. It is located just a short distance from downtown, across from the grocery store and just up the road from the bike path, that runs along the river which leads directly to downtown Durango. I thoroughly enjoyed jogging and riding my bike on the path. There is also Anamas Brewery that is conveniently located along the river that one may stumble upon while exploring the bike path. There is a hiking trail on Anamas Mountain just a short walk from the house up the road. Everything you need is just outside your door if your up for exploring and adventure, this is your place. The house itself is clean, spotless and charming with large picture windows that frame every inch odd Durango's spectacular views. There is a mudroom perfect spot for after your outdoor adventure with a washer and dryer. The kitchen has all new appliances and a sweet little nook with a round copper table for dining. There is a family den perfect for games or watching tv with a pull out bed. The great room is perfect for turning on the tv while you entertain in the spacious dining room. The dining room table extends when needed with a lovely buffet that houses all your glassware and linens. All the additional bedrooms upstairs are large and there is one on suite bath that is a perfect place for a quiet bath. The bath is a classic clawfoot tub, which was a wonderful surprise and overlooks the backyard and mountain landscape. You can't go wrong if you're considering a stay at this lovely little gem. It's a true hidden treasure. We look forward to our next visit. Tasha Carver

I spent Memorial weekend in Durango with old friends at the Valley Victorian. Believed to have been built in the 1880's this charming Victorian was more than comfortable. With all the the creaks and crags of a house that's been around 130 plus years it is warm and inviting and recently renovated with all the modern amenities. It's a West facing house, and basking in the afternoon glow of light streaming in through the large living room window, it's an easy spot to sit down in the nice leather sofa with a bourbon or glass of wine (I did both), as I relaxed after the days activities. I also quite enjoyed a stroll around the spacious grounds. Sitting on the back porch under the old cherry tree was quite enjoyable too! I stayed in the master bedroom and was very happy with the comfortable Queen bed, large closet and ensuite bathroom. If you like to hike or mountain bike, Animas Mtn. Is literally out your front door and possibly one of the best hikes in Durango! It's a 6 mile round trip depending on how you do it, with views of town, the mesa, the Laplatas and the Needle mountains north towards Silverton. If you are a big hiker I believe that Trail system even connects to the junction creek trail and onto the Colorado trail. I loved having North City Market across the street for all my supplies, but the true gem was being right behind the coffee shop "81301" for an excellent cup of Joe and "Zia Taqueria" for excellent Mexican food! I loved walking along the Animas river into downtown and having the train right there as it passed... talk about a scene out of a movie! I hope you stay and have the wonderful experience I had. I had the best time and I rate this 5 stars! I will be back, hopefully soon! Sincerely, Joel Shutty

I recently had the pleasure of staying in this charming Victorian home, and it was one of the best ‘get aways’ ever. Conveniently located to the many fine restaurants downtown, fantastic hiking, on a quiet street - this home has everything we needed!! And only one block away, we found a great coffee shop, 81301, and a Mexican restaurant, Zia Taqueria. We were within walking distance to the trolley to take us downtown for shopping and dining, and also a short walk took us to the trail head for a beautiful hike on the Animas Mountain. If you’re not up to a slightly hilly walk, you can do the river walk which is just as nice. Really enjoyed the hot springs nearby after our hike! Nicely furnished and has a lovely, private back yard with beautiful old trees. We were out and about during the day and were able to relax in the evenings. All in all - a great place to get to know the great town of Durango. We’ll be back!!!

I rented this charming home in Durango (my first time visiting there!) for 5 days last November, and 6 of us lived there comfortably the entire time. Location wise, we couldn’t have been more pleased. We were minutes away from Downtown Durango and also from the mountain hikes we took each morning. I liked that we were able to catch a trolley to/from downtown Durango just a few blocks from the home for those days we didn’t feel like driving. Very convenient. Property wise, the house had the rustic mountain feel we were looking for yet there were enough modern updates to keep us in our comfort zone. The kitchen was spacious and allowed for several cooks in the kitchen at one time, and we had newer stainless steel appliances to work from. There was a cozy little breakfast nook overlooking the back yard where we had our morning breakfasts, as well as a larger dining room table which accommodated us for larger meals at dinner. I found the entire home to be elegantly furnished and especially loved the upstairs bathroom with its quaint little bathtub -- perfect for an evening bubble bath with a glass of wine after a long day of hiking. Or if you preferred to unwind on the deck or porch, we had that as well. All of us commented on how comfortable the beds were in each of our rooms, and how quiet and still the evenings were. There was no outdoor traffic to interrupt our sleep. I haven’t slept as peacefully since the trip! If you are looking for a southwest Colorado vacation home nestled in the mountains of Durango, I highly recommend this house for both its comfort and location.
