Dog-friendly, oceanfront A-frame chalet with view, loft, and room for six!
Ease your feet into the sea at this inviting one-bedroom Otter Rock vacation rental. Marvel at the abundance of sea creatures in tide pools and indulge in gorgeous sunsets on the beach at this cozy home-away-from-home!
This endearing chalet is part of the idyllic Alpine Chalets community, a group of A-frame cottages perched on a bluff overlooking the ocean and Beverly Beach. A pleasant stroll down the private trail leads to a stunning expanse of sand that extends south to the historic Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. Devils Punch Bowl State Park is also nearby and the allure of Newport, with its many restaurants and the Oregon Coast Aquarium, is only eight miles south.
The interior of the cottage features shabby-chic aesthetic with wood-paneled walls and ceilings, and overhead beams. Gleaming hardwood floors and a small electric fireplace add to the ambiance and create a warm and cheery glow. After adventuring all day on the shores of the South Oregon Coast, it's a cozy place to wash off the salt and sand.
Snuggle into the plush sage sofa or armchair and watch some movies - there's a DVD player and cable is also included so you don't have to miss the latest episode of your favorite show. A floral valance frames the ocean-view window where you can watch dramatic winter storms over the Pacific or fill the chalet with sunbeams on a pleasant day. Wi-Fi is also available so you can stay caught up at work or research the best seafood restaurants for dinner.
For your added convenience, the living room opens into the well-organized but basic kitchen. All the necessary appliances including a stovetop/oven, microwave and refrigerator are at your disposal for preparing simple breakfasts to pasta and clams for a candlelight dinner. The only thing missing is a dishwasher, but you can always let the pots and plates soak while you walk down to the beach and enjoy a colorful, late summer sunset!
When you've been sufficiently lulled by the ocean's gentle waves, a quiet bedroom is just off the kitchen. This peaceful nook, comfortably furnished with a queen-sized bed, vibrant plaid bedding and reading lamps, is sure to inspire sweet dreams. And in the morning, it's only a few steps to the coffeemaker. A full bathroom is also on the main level so there's no need to venture up the stairs.
For those that do brave the climb, a large, open loft with a delightful ocean view awaits. Two twin beds with adorable accent pillows are in one corner, and a separate living area with an additional sofa, TV and DVD player are on the other side. This shared space is ideal for kids to have an independent area or for guests who don't mind communal living. There is also a half bath on the upper level.
Six guests can vacation comfortably in this chalet, as there is a sleeper sofa available too. Your four-legged family members are also welcome (though a nightly fee per dog and a minimum fee per stay will apply).

We were a family of 3 adults and found this chalet to be very comfortable. Kitchen well supplied. Beds comfortable. Cable TV though wifi was spotty. Private (though somewhat steep) trail to beach was well maintained, with fire pit and picnic tables on the way down. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed five nights and it was a really great cabin for our family ( two adults and two kids). We loved the A frame so much we wished we could buy one and spend all our vacation time there. Only reaon for four stars was a musty smell. Its an older cabin and in a wet place so we half expected that. We brought some scented canles and that took care of the smell. The caretaker, Lance was very nice, friendly and helpful. Its apparent he works hard everyday to keep everything up. In addition to always having an improvement project going..
We will definatly be staying there again for our next vacations.

So close to the beach, very friendly and helpful staff on site..will book a return visit for sure!!

This was a fun little A frame to stay in. Full of all the things needed to prepare a nice meal, but definitely that mid-century charm! The beach was close and it was awesome to listen to at night. There were deer in the morning behind the house by the main bedroom, so cool! If you have really tall people staying, they may feel a little cramped. I, at 5’2 loved it!
Chalmers N.Nov 2019
Kitchen loaded with cooking supplies. Very clean, room for guests to be comfortable for Thanksgiving dinner, and the bed was super comfortable!
Jason B.Jul 2019
Close to beach not a lot of people
Rachel W.Jul 2019
These are really charming. It is older, so as long as you know that you'll like it.
Dawnelle M.Jun 2019
Great beach access. Comfortable beds. Our family enjoyed our stay.
Tashina W.Sep 2018
The thing I loved most about this rental was the kids could be kids. It's not so pristine that they can't touch anything. Its cozy, homey and the beach is right there. We had a very comfortable and memorable stay.
Denise N.Aug 2018
This was a great location. Nice beach access very clean and comfortable
ELIZABETH E.Jul 2018
Loved the location and the space. Did not love that the dishes were greasy from previous use and the dish rack was pink w slime from many many dishwashings. The sofa bed we intended to use for two of our kids was unusable. The frame was broken and the mattress was super lumpy and they had added foam to spots to help improve it. My kids had to sleep on the floor. Almost every outlet was old and need to be replaced as they were so loose we could’nt even insert charging blocks for phones without them falling out. The sinks all drained very very slowly. I did enjoy our stay on the coast and would love to stay at the chalet again if I knew they had corrected these things.
We are sorry to see there were several annoyances during this stay. The property manager has changed the outlets, cleared the sink drains, placed a mattress topper on the sofa bed, and also changed out light bulbs and batteries. Thank you!

The Chalet is cute and little small, but the beach is amazing. The access to the beach is great, with the picnic area and a place for a fire.
Kristen W.Jan 2018
We have been coming to the Alpine Chalets for over 12 years now. I love this magical place. Thanks for keeping it affordable.
Amy C.Nov 2017
If you're looking for a homey little place with great beach access, this is the place!
Kirill M.Sep 2017
Location was perfect, loved the place itself just needs better maintenance and cleaning.
Cookware not the best but did the job after I re-washed everything because everything had a greasy film. Towels were left dirty with some sort of dried liquid crusty stains and hair. Sheets on hide-a-bed dirty, covered in sand and crumbs, very uncomfortable...luckily we didnt have to sleep on that.
Alisa A.Sep 2017
This is a wonderful place to stay for a family. We loved how convinient it was to access Newport, Depoe Bay and Lincoln City in just a short drive. The beach access located near the property was great to come "home to" and watch the sunset!
Olivia A.Sep 2017
Absolutely perfect spot, with a very private beach, and not far from great food!
Had a relaxing and fun time here going to and from the beach, playing games, spending great time with friends!
Pat N.Aug 2017
What a beautiful spot on the Pacific Ocean. The setting was amazing, the staff (reservations and on-site) were the best ever, and our cabin was charming. We have a big dog, and she was welcomed making our stay even more special. We will definitely be back!
Gabriel F.Aug 2017
My family and I absolutely loved this uniquely quaint, quiet and slightly isolated group of cabins. It has its own path to Otter Rock beach and is a quick drive to Newport or Depoe Bay. Lance the caretaker was very friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. Great experience overall!
Laurie N.Jul 2017
Everything a family needs is there. So quiet, clean and close to ocean. Loved it!!
Jeff F.Jun 2017
We stayed for a week and had a great time. The beach area is nice and not far away. The grounds around the house are well kept and the house was clean and quiet.
the only thing missing was a broom to sweep up sand and extra bath towel :)
Liz M.Jun 2017
This is a quaint place but we thought we would have an ocean view but we couldn't see it unless we went down to the beach. We did the walk down to the beach which was awesome but the walk up was strenuous. The manager Lance is very nice and friendly😃
James L.Jun 2017
Good location, nice place. Just a bit dated for the price.
Jennifer W.Apr 2017
These units are super funky and have very steep stairs. I don't recommend for anyone with babies or toddlers. Our kids are all over 5 so it was okay but we still slept up stairs with them so no kids tried to climb the stairs in the middle of the night to find us.
These units are tight but we spend a lot of time at the beach and newport so the price is worth it. They are also dog friendly which is great. The beach is amazing and almost always empty. We're expecting our 4th kid and will probably outgrow these units for our next Newport vacation but we've loved them so far.
Alan E.Mar 2017
The place is close to Newport and Lincoln City which we like to visit. They allow dogs and is clean as long as responsible owners clean up after their pets (most are). The lower picnic area and grass areas were a plus as well as private access to the beach for guests. The outside area is well kept, well lit, and and is showing improvements-new fence, new deck.
We'll stay here again because of the area. They DO need to replace that couch tho.
Michelle S.Sep 2016
From what we could see from the outside, it looks like each chalet is a little bit different. We stayed in #7 for our anniversary this year, and overall we loved it! The loft was adorable -- I almost wish the master bed had been up there, because that's where we spent most of our time! The location is great for getting to 3 major coastal cities, and the private access beach was beautiful! The chalet looked in need of a few updates or repairs, and the amount of bugs swarming just outside the door and in the parking lot was super unappealing. But we had a wonderful time and would consider staying here again! It's a good value if you stay for more than a couple nights.
Julie M.Sep 2016
Quiet and tucked away. Dog friendly.
Rick L.Aug 2016
chalet was clean had everything but the food property manager was very helpful, maid was a hard worker tried to please everyone
Annie M.Aug 2016
I have a group of 10 friends who get away with families every year and we have been to Alpine Chalets for 9 out of the last 10 years. There are common gathering areas and it's great with kids. If I were choosing a place to stay for the weekend by myself I wouldn't choose Alpine Chalets. They're just okay for the price and the parking lot smells like sewage. The meadow (on the way to the beach) is great, again good for large groups.
Lovely and peaceful. Gorgeous beach to take moonlit walks on.
Jason H.Aug 2016
Would not recommend for short stays. This would be enjoyable for staying more than 3 days. The beach is almost worth the whole stay, not many people.
Rachel M.Jun 2016
The grounds and beach access are amazing! It would have been a five star stay had the room been a little more comfortable. It was not a good space to relax in. If your going to spend most of your time outside of the room then you might not mind this property. However the master bed is a tad saggy in the middle so sleep might be an issue.
Fabian S.Jun 2016
Decent spot that has a nice quiet beach. Besisdes the electrical issues the spot was OK. Some pet odor and hair in the unit but it's a pet friendly spot so it's to be expected
We did find an outlet that needed replacing, and it's working great now!
April T.Apr 2016
We loved the location, the ease of checking in and the cost. Would just like to see a bit more clean for the future.
Laura S.Mar 2016
My family enjoyed this quiet area and small walk to the beach. The beds were comfortable and we had a great vacation and will definitely recommend this to others and stay again.
Melissa B.Mar 2016
The chalet was very cozy, perfect for a family, and conveniently located between Newport and Depoe Bay.
Matthew M.Jan 2016
Otter Rock is my wife's favorite beach area, and we stayed with our infant daughter and two friends over the New Years holiday. The complex was generally quiet. To say that the cabins have an ocean view is incorrect advertising, unless you were to really lean your head out the window, though there is a nice view from the edge of the parking lot. The cabin layout was comfortable for two families, and we appreciated having a toilet and living area on both floors. The cabin was well stocked with cooking equipment, linens, pillows, etc. The cabin itself seemed a little outdated, and I could see signs of wear on the walls and furniture. Nothing was broken or dangerous, just on the verge of getting decrepit.
The biggest issue we had was with the cleanliness. When we walked in there were fir needles all over the floor, and tufts of white dog hair on the mats all over the first floor. Aside for that, things were generally clean on a surface level. For example, counters were clean in the kitchen, but anything out of normal view could get nasty pretty quickly. If anything went under a bed or a couch, we would have to wash the large tufts of hair and dust off. Kind of a tough situation for a family with a crawling infant. We found books and socks under furniture that did not belong to us, showing that HK staff weren't really bothering to look there. No dishwasher, and it looks like we have to rely on the last tenant's word the dishes were clean, so we washed everything before we used it.
The binder of information hidden (literally) behind the TV said we should contact Vacasa if there was a problem, but how feasible is that really? Are we supposed to force a disgruntled housekeeper who obviously doesn't care about their job to come clean in front of us and all our stuff? Housekeepers should be supervised and their quality should be controlled BEFORE renters arrive.
Overall, a generally pleasant stay punctuated by significant deficits in cleanliness. Maybe a good deal for someone with a dog, but for those without, I think you can find a lot better for the price.
Donna S.Sep 2015
I loved having the beach pretty much to ourselves. You definitely get a workout walking down and up from the beach but they have alleviated the trek with a park like setting. Its actually a very beautiful walk. The only downfall was not being able to look out my window at the ocean but the place is well stocked and actually very cozy, this helped make up for the lack of view. Its perfect for the price and we will definitely be back.
Nicole B.Aug 2015
This is a great place to stay, in an amazing location!
Rachael S.Jul 2015
The chalets are a nice compromise between staying at a motel and renting a full house. Chalet #7 was a little cramped for 3 adults and 2 kids, but for a 2 night stay it worked fine and gave me a chance to treat the family to a great beach experience at a good price. Only one problem: no crab cracking tools on site!
Anna K.Apr 2015
We loved the coziness of the cabin and the location! We will definitely be back. It was surprisingly more spacious than we expected with the upstairs loft and downstairs bedroom. It was away from the hustle and bustle and we loved the walk down to the beach and the grassy area with swings. This cabin made our experience very magical and lovely!
Holly S.Jan 2015
Awesome location! We were disappointed with the cleanliness. It was very dirty - stained rug, hair and dust build up on floors behind furniture, and on heating vents. We would love to stay here again and recommend it if it were clean.
Thank you for your response. We will follow-up with housekeeping on making sure our cleanliness standards are met. We hope you enjoyed the great beach access! Thank you for choosing Vacasa!
Randal B.Dec 2014
We enjoyed the privacy and beautiful location. We don't like fancy ostentatious resorts. The A frame cabins are wonderful and so homy feeling. We will definitely stay again soon.
Kynda E.Oct 2014
We spent our anniversary nestled in the trees with a private walk to the beach. It was cozy and enjoyable with a full kitchen and a quick drive to surrounding events and shops.
Hollis B.Oct 2014
I came here to get a weekend of quiet studying mixed with some surf. It was just my partner and the dogs and we thought for the price it was a perfect weekend hideaway. The kitchen is pretty basic but had all the pots and pans we needed to get our meals prepared. The furniture is really comfortable and the TV and cable were working fine. It was a short walk to the beach and definitely walking distance to the surf. We actually enjoyed being a little further south from the crowd on the weekend ;) Comfy and cozy little spot, we'll definitely be back!
Ida C.Jul 2014
Had a great time. Loved the unique setting of the Chalet and the loft area was perfect for two teenage girls! Had fun traveling between Lincoln city, Depot Bay and Newport. Will stay here again!
Robin B.Jul 2014
The property is very accessible to the beach which is very quiet and private. Our family had a wonderful relaxing vacation!
