Dog-friendly beachfront cabin with ocean views & private path to beach
Rocks Cabin is a unique, rustic home located on a one-acre private beachfront lot and is in a gated community. Situated 50 feet above sea level, the home is approximately 200 feet from the sand dunes, affording a great perch and unobstructed view of the beach, surf, and ocean sights. Described as a botanical paradise with completely native old-growth vegetation, including false Lily of the Valley, Indian Celery, various types of rainforest ferns, flowers, and native plants. Tucked in the old-growth Sitka Spruce Conifers, privacy is optimum. This home is an ideal spot for bird-watching, and winter storm-watching is incredible! The roar of the surf can be amazing, even from inside the cabin.
The cabin itself is rustic in decor, with a wood-burning fireplace. Electric heat is also available to ensure your comfort. The downstairs bedroom has a king bed. A ladder with a handrail takes you to the loft area, which offers two twin beds. The ladder has a 300 lb. weight limit.
Motor vehicles are prohibited on the beach in front of the Rocks cabin from April 15 to Sept 1. Vehicle traffic is light the rest of the year (except during razor clan openings) because the only automobile beach access is up at Roosevelt Beach (north on Highway 109- about 4 miles). After you drive your vehicle on to the beach at the Roosevelt access road, you continue south on the open sand to reach the Rocks cabin beach. You have to ford the Iron Springs River. This can be difficult (and dangerous) if the river water levels are high or the tide is high. Many people choose to turn around here, rather than continue south to the beach in front of the Rocks cabin. The two mile stretch of beach from the Rocks cabin north to the Iron Springs River is one of the finest walking beaches on the North Coast. It is also the spot where prominent rock outcroppings with tide pools begin and continue off and on all the way north to Cape Flattery near Neah Bay. There are no rock outcroppings to the south of Copalis Beach – all the way to the Columbia River. So if you want to explore coastal tide pools, this is the place where it begins! The beach south of the cabin continues to the mouth of the Copalis River – also a great place to explore. Even in the height of summer, you may find you have these two beaches all to yourself!
The beach in front of the cabin is also the only designated light airplane airstrip on the entire Pacific Coast, so get ready for airway commuters to drop in for a morning spring razor clam dig. Gray whales migrate by Copalis in April/May and Oct/Nov. The blows can be seen with the naked eye from the cabin, but bring binoculars to get better views.
The well-maintained private path to the beach is utterly delightful! Take a nice stroll through towering trees and blossoming vegetation with seasonal babbling brooks. You are just over five miles from the quaint town of Pacific Beach to the north, about 45 minutes from Lake Quinault and its beautiful trails through the rainforest, and a short drive to Ocean Shores, where you will find the Casino, many restaurants, and activities for the kids.
Recent Home Updates
The cabin was remodeled in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, the entire front wall including the windows, both front and back doors, and most of the front deck were replaced. We expanded the dining room and added an all new kitchen with modern cabinets, sink, countertop and dishwasher. All three beds and bed frames were replaced as well as the living room couches. The wood stove and all the electric baseboard heaters were replaced. The loft was repainted and new vinyl flooring installed. The access loft ladder was replaced. The driveway access was redone so it’s easier to get in and out. In 2025, the bathroom was remodeled. The tub/shower, toilet, vanity, frosted window, medicine cabinet, ceiling fan/light and shelving were all renewed. A hood fan above the kitchen stove, under kitchen cabinet lighting and a nice bright chandelier above the dining room table were also added. Enjoy!
