Perfect location for being in the woods yet close to it all. Everything needed for a cozy place with lots of places to sleep.

After reading through the reviews online, I was hesitant about this rental but wanted to be optimistic and give it a chance. I was excited to take our dog with us instead of kenneling him. However, my optimism was short lived and after one night we decided to travel home.

I had hoped that due to the property being managed by an external company, Vacasa, instead of the home owner meant that the maintenance and cleanliness of the rental would have been impressive. It was impressive but not for the right reasons. Driving up to the property we passed many impressive homes that sparked excitement as we neared our rental. However, pulling up to our rental we realized it was more rustic than the others.

The steps leading up to the front door are not true steps. They are large rocks that could easily cause a slip, fall or ankle twist. It was not easy to unpack and carry in our luggage and supplies. My suggestion would be to add filler around the rocks to maintain the look and ensure safety.

Entering into the rental we found almost all lights were on and a door leading into a very messy and unorganized storage room was left open. There were item scattered across the floor in the storage room and an orange extension cord leading from that room into the bedroom on this level. We were also introduced to the first of two spiral staircases. Within moments we realized there was no way in heck our dog was willingly going to use those stairs. However, we finished unpacking everything into the entryway before we began carrying things up to the 2nd level.

On the 2nd level we found the dining room, kitchen, living room and full bath. As others have stated over and over, many light bulbs are blown and the overall maintenance is lacking. It is clear that there was some DIY upgrades here and there throughout the property. Unfinished edges on dry wall, exposed nails around the back door, sharp edges on the kitchen tile, missing tiles in the kitchen, loose electrical sockets, light switches/fixtures that did not work, etc. Still after seeing this we continued to unpack and tell ourselves that it’s paid for and we will make the best of it.

We started to notice the use of extension cords was a common theme in this home. For example, the bedroom on the first level has only one electrical plug in the WHOLE room. But we could never confirm that electricity actually ran to this room. We tried multiple devices of our own to try to get it to work but never had any luck. From what we could tell, the only option for electricity in this room was from the extension cord that was running down the hall from the storage room near the entry.

In the kitchen, we found an over all lack of cleanliness. The open cabinets have the potential to be really cute but they contained dirty small appliances, mostly empty (and dirty) condiments/food items and dingy baskets to hide other items. Unlike other rentals where we find a lightly stocked pantry with basic items that I would not think twice of using, I would not even use a salt shaker here…if I could have found one. Dirty baskets in the kitchen contained a hodge podge of items left from previous renters but most of it were items that should have been tossed when the renters left. We started to unpack the groceries we brought for the trip and place them in the fridge. As I started to add our ice packs to the freezer, I realized it had not been cleaned in a while so the ice packs when pack in the cool. The freezer had crumbs, hairs and other random things left behind. Thankfully the fridge was clean and kept our food cold.

One of the more interesting things about this rental was the beautiful display of cords leading between the wall, router and modem. During our 24 hours at this location, we could never get the wifi network to show up on our phones or computer. This did not make us happy at all. We liked the idea of ‘disconnecting’ but wanted to be able to post photos and videos of our time at the rental. Cell service is pretty spotty so using your phone as a hot spot is probably not going to happen. We followed the very limited instructions sent by Vacasa that suggested we disconnect the power source, wait and plug back in. The only thing this caused was the security alarm to go off for about 30 minutes. Eventually we called the 800 number for Vacasa to let them know the alarm was going off and we did not have wifi. They said someone would “contact us in a little while”. The alarm was turned off remotely and we were never contacted.

To advertise that this is a pet friendly rental is a bit of a farce. Yes, you can take your dog to this property. But the lack of outdoor space for ‘bathroom trips’ was almost humorous. There is a small spring that runs through the backyard that has a few pavers/stones to cross over in 1 area. Small dogs might find it hard to crossover…ours fell in the water when we went out after dark. There is a single light out back where there is the limited “green space” and no lights on the side of the house so that we could have walked to the front for additional space to search for the “right spot”. The back yard consists of lots of space…and sticker bushes, an area with the fire pit/stumps, a few small fallen trees, more rocks, etc…but not a lot of space for pets to relieve themselves.

I could go on and on about things I felt were subpar. How the place needs an overhaul and deep clean, but it’s not go to affect much. In the end we packed up after one night and went back home. I know we will not get a refund…and I know that Vacasa will give a super generic reply to this review the same way they have done for all those that have stayed, ended up disappointed and left an honest review.

Save your money and stay some where else.

House was clean and well supplied. Central in the mountains and suited us well for daily hiking activities.

This cabin is a short drive from Seattle and great for a summer weekend trip to the mountains. It was fully stocked with everything you need with lots of options for sleeping. The kids loved the upstairs bedroom with bunk beds and all the toys. The fire pit in the back was great as well.

We explored the trails and ski lifts around the cabin and took day trips to the beach at Lake Kachess and Franklin falls which is a nice short hike for the kids.

It's a bit older and could use some baby/toddler proofing, but overall we loved the cabin.

We enjoyed a lovely fall weekend with friends at the cabin. Very close to the mountain, in ski season this will be a treasure of easy access to the runs. Hosts were very responsive to questions and all was as we expected on check-in. Thanks!
