We loved the cabin feel of the place. Great character. Would definitely book again.
Sandy O. Dec 2022
The house was a nice place to stay. Very comfortable . The stairs are steep
James H. Oct 2022
Great place and super nice owner!
Carey M. Aug 2022
Great trip. Cottage was cozy and clean.
Jennifer J. Aug 2022
First time visiting Saugatuck. We loved the community very nice but a majority of the businesses are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Peterson Mill was very cute and clean BUT tiny. I think the price is high, after cleaning fee and add’l fees/taxes it was over $1,000 for two nights. I didn’t find the available amenities to be worth the price paid.
Manager response:
Thank you for your review, Jennifer, we hope that you enjoyed your stay at our beautiful home. We apologize for any aspects of our services that are not suitable for your party at this time. We can clarify that we do employ a method of dynamic pricing in which our homes' rates do fluctuate based on the time of year, location, and demand of our market. We appreciate your understanding and hope to host you for many more fantastic vacations to come!
Derek V. Jun 2022
We really enjoyed our three nights at Peterson Mill! Very quaint, has all the accommodations, and is close to everything! Plenty of room for the two of us. If you have the pleasure of meeting the property owner Erik, you will be treated to hearing lots of fun tidbits about the history of the area and his family's contributions to Saugatuck! When we return we will definitely stay here again!
Michael M. Apr 2022
I loved the whole set up just very calm and relaxing. The running mill is super cool and helps you sleep. Also super close to downtown maybe a 10 minute walk. Just wish we had stayed longer.
Wendy H. Mar 2022
Looks better than pictures and unbelievably clean and just an all and all beautiful place to stay? Would stay there again and again.
Devin K. Jan 2022
Close to town, well furnished, and very clean. The owner was very nice and we definitely would stay here again.
Larry S. Nov 2021
Everything views were spectacular, proximity to Saugatuck was excellent. Place in great condition, 2 caveats, need to clean under the couch better, and a few light bulbs were out
Manager response:
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Larry, we are happy to hear your party had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed the beautiful views! We deeply apologize for any cleanliness concerns you encountered, as well as any items you found in need of attention. We appreciate this feedback as a means to continually improve our homes, as well as our guest's comfort and satisfaction. We look forward to welcoming you back for your next getaway!

We had a great time staying at the mill. The place is clean and comfortable.
Darlene T. Oct 2021
Fully equipped with everything needed. Nice and clean! Conveniently located.
John A. Sep 2021
Loved the beauty of the property. The deck over looking the pond and the sound of the water pouring through the old mill fall at night. Walking distance to everything downtown and the Southerner restaurant right next door! The interior is beautiful and CLEAN ! Kitchen is fully stocked with all utensils and appliances. The bathroom and shower are perfect. Loved the convenience of being in walking distance of everything yet just far enough away to avoid the congestion and noise of tourist crowds during the summer season. Of course the big plus is Peterson Mill is pet friendly!
Bryan V. Aug 2021
Cozy, well equipped converted Mill made our stay in Saugatuck quite comfortable. Easy walk to downtown shops and restaurants. We would stay here again!
CHARLENE B. Aug 2021
We spent three days at this charming home. It is on the edge of downtown and one can easily walk to all the shops and restaurants. Nestled in a quiet, spacious are, it affords a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The owner offered historical information about the area and was a helpful host suggesting local favorites.
Truly a special, comfortable spot.
Maureen B. Aug 2021
We enjoyed our's so picturesque. Though small...everything is very well laid out. We knew the stairs to the lower level were steep from reading the we knew what to expect. It was an unexpected pleasure to meet the owner and hear the history of the mill. Meeting Mr. Petersen was truly a highlight of our stay. We would definitely stay here again!
Richard C. Aug 2021
This place is so cute, private, and clean. It is separated from other buildings (if your looking for privacy in Saugatuck, this is it!) has a beautiful pond out front with plenty of wildlife to observe or photograph, and has all the amenities you need for an extended weekend stay. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to our return trip next year! This place is simply the best and you won't go wrong booking with the Peterson Mill!
Manager response:
Hello Richard, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay
Robert I. Jul 2021
We loved having coffee in the morning being in a quiet place right by the river. Walking to town was a breeze (so we did not need to find parking) and sitting on the deck reading and enjoying the afternoon was so peaceful.
Sam H. Jul 2021
Enjoyed how quiet and peaceful the site is while also being just a 5 min walk to the charming shopping/dining part of town. Kitchen area is nice! Deck and patio overlooking pond and mill wheel with running water made for extra relaxing setting.
Britt J. Jul 2021
We loved our stay!
STEPHEN D. Jul 2021
Very livable quarters. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Just a few minutes walk from everything Saugatuck. We’ll do it again.
Kathryn B. Jun 2021
We loved our stay at the Peterson Mill. It was perfect sized for our family of 3 and perfectly safe for our 4 year old. The grounds were beautiful and the walk to ice cream was short and scenic. It felt private but so easy to get to good food and fun activities. Highly recommended!
Tricia T. Jun 2021
Location was great, it was quiet and so lovely! Rustic charm of the Mill House and right on a marina too!
Jan P. May 2021
The property was very clean and well kept. We enjoyed being able to walk into town but then be able to return to the quiet beauty of the Peterson Mill. The stairs inside are quite steep, just an FYI. There is also another property very close, nobody was there so it was not problematic for us.
Meghan T. Oct 2020
Beautiful views of the river from the kitchen window and french doors in the bedroom. Great view of the piers and channel from the upper deck.
Kate C. Oct 2020
It's tucked off the road next to a creek with wildlife so the place was still very peaceful even tho you were not far from restaurants & shops. If any negatives, I'd warn the indoor steps to the lower level bedroom are skinny & steep for us in our late 20s - advise those who are fall risks & those with big dogs to be extra careful-we were glad to not have brought our german shorthair for this reason. Perfect place to do nothing & recharge if you don't want to window shop, hike, or drive to the beach. Dunes state park had great trails. We were recommended 'the sanctuary' park by a passerby but ran out of time to check out the 'spiritual spot' as he called it.
All positive restaurant experiences. Depending on the season, be prepared for long restaurant waits (can get drinks most places) Friday - Sun. Was nice to have leftovers & kitchen for the times we wanted to be our pj's & not have to wait.
Patricia S. Oct 2020
We stayed at Peterson Mill in mid October. Weather was a little chilly, but we loved it. It was super clean, peaceful, comfortable and the perfect getaway for a couple. Lots of wildlife in the river and little pond and the grounds were very well kept. If you are thinking about booking, do it. You won't regret it. We booked for 2 nights and wished we could stay for another 2. Easy 4 block walk to town and everything Saugatuck has to offer. Definite thumbs up. We will be back!!!
Mark F. Oct 2020
Good location
Manager response:
Hello Mark, we are happy to hear that the location of your last stay with us was something you quite enjoyed. We do apologize for the inconvenience that the DVD player caused, and appreciate your help in getting the matter resolved. And we have issued a refund for the issue. We look forward to hosting you again in the future!
Lori W. Sep 2020
Walking distance to all the fun in town but far enough away from the noise. Quiet, peaceful retreat.
Annika W. Aug 2020
Like others had noted, the location of Peterson Mill is fantastic. We loved the walkability to downtown Saugatuck, while still having evening solitude. Our kids (6 & 9) really enjoyed the quirkiness of staying in a historic mill, and we did, too. We are already thinking of booking the next stay.
Mike S. Jul 2020
This little cottage has a comfy feel while being situated close enough to walk to Saugatuck and far enough from the town to ensure quiet evenings.
It is tastefully decorated with all the comforts of home, so you can eat in or out.
The deck provides a place for gathering at night with your favorite adult beverage.
I would return without hesitation.
Merritt R. Jun 2020
Very scenic and lovely home for a long weekend away. Nice location to downtown Saugatuck. Best for 2 guests.
Andrew B. Jun 2020
This was a fantastic place to stay. Right in the heart of Saugatuck. Owner is incredibly friendly and goes out of his way to make the stay as pleasant as possible. Great place for a quick getaway!
Julie K. Jun 2020
While the inside of the property was very nice. The bottom floor and the outside were flooded with dirty water that you had to walk through to get into the house. We are into the 7th day of trying to reach VACASA and VRBO with no return calls. The owner of the property indicates it's been this way for almost a year.
Manager response:
We are glad to hear you enjoyed the property but disappointed that you had a negative experience with attempting to contact us. We look forward to continuing our conversation through email. It’s important to note that this home is on the edge of a river and all of Michigan is dealing with high water issues right now. Though the home does not have any water intrusion issues at all, the river does overflow during excessive rains, which results in the main entry being blocked by a puddle. With that said, there is an alternate lockbox and entry located on the 2nd level to ensure there are no access issues. Our local team is always here and available to help in these situations. We hope to have another chance to impress you in the future!
Patrick C. Feb 2020
Just of town center, you've got access to great food and fun, in a quiet mill-creek side location. Great getaway for a couple.
Darren P. Jan 2020
We stayed a couple nights here with our son and it was the perfect size! We loved it and felt very comfortable in this cozy setting. It was very clean and the host was very friendly!
. Oct 2019
An incredibly beautiful space for a nice fall weekend away from Chicago! It was super clean and very cute (sort of cabin like.) As another review mentions, there’s a house next to it, but I never encountered the neighbors and it still felt quite private. The area around the mill is very scenic!
. Sep 2019
This was a wonderful unique place to stay. It had everything we needed for weekend visit. The location is on a beautiful relaxing lot and just a five minute walk into town. We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Peterson and he happily shared the history of the mill with us. We had a fantastic visit and would stay here again!
. Sep 2019
The house is great for 1-3 people. Everything was clean, with beautiful surroundings and within walking distance of downtown.
. Sep 2019
We did have a great time at Peterson mill. We loved the fact it was such a cozy, picturesque place. Great views and pond was just perfect addition. Walking distance to downtown, our dog loved it the most, he could sleep outside if we would let him. great idea of turning old mill into apartment. We definitely would be back and recommend Peterson mill to everyone. Me , personally, can’t wait to see the mill in fall and winter time.
. Aug 2019
Honestly, the online property description and photos do not do this property justice. The historic mill is much more beautiful and unique in person. The location is perfect, within walking distance to downtown so you do not have to worry about parking during busy summer weekends. The Southerner is practically next door and hands down one of the best restaurants in Saugatuck. My husband & I highly recommend this property and look forward to returning.
. Jun 2019
We had a wonderful stay at the Peterson Mill. The property was adorably quaint, very clean, and peaceful. Just what we needed to unwind a bit. We enjoyed all the great history books made available to read while sitting on a very, very comfy leather couch. We also loved sitting on the top floor private deck every evening enjoying a cocktail! The property is very close to town. Easily walk to restaurants and shopping. Loved our stay!
. Jun 2019
Whoever cleaned our rental before we arrived needs to be given a pay raise. My husband and I never stepped into a cleaner place.
. Jun 2019
We're very happy with the amenities inside the house and location.
Stu Sisco . Jun 2018
The Peterson Mill was a lovely place to relax. We walked into Saugatuck for meals and shopping, and walked next door to the Southerner for a great evening meal with a water view. The kitchen had everything we needed and the property was very scenic and tranquil. Plenty of room for our dogs to run also. We would definitely consider a return stay.
Pam Lotz . Jul 2017
Yes it was very relaxing and enjoyed.
Edward Ottinger . May 2017
We had a wonderful weekend. The owner lives next door and is a very nice gentleman. In fact, everyone in the town was extremely friendly. By the way, despite the sole negative review, there was just a pair of ducks and a pair of geese with a few goslings at the pond when we were there, and they were no issue whatsoever.
Kevin Morrissey . Mar 2017
The Peterson Mill is a cozy, charming cottage on lovely grounds with a pond and waterfall. Tranquil, yet blocks to all that Saugatuck has to offer. I would highly reconnend it for a solo getaway or a couple. And pet friendly!
