Herman P. Dec 2022
This year we decided to bring our family together under one roof for Christmas, and OBX was the perfect place given the travel times from our respective destinations. 4 families, including two children 2 and under drove over 5 hours in a winter storm (not known at the time) to arrive at Millennium Sunrise. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a home noticeably unclean. We attempted to overlook this, but as the night went on, we noticed more things that were unkept, including floors that were not swept and a tub that had standing water as if someone had taken a bath recently. When we woke up the next morning, we realized that there was no water in the home at all. After calling multiple times starting at 10am, someone finally came to the house at 1pm. With 17 people in the home and 2 of those 2 and under, all the toilets became biohazards and unsanitary to the point of us having to leave the home to go to a local Harris Teeter to relieve ourselves. It was not until 4pm that we were able to move to a new place after the repairman confirmed a bursted water pipe. Upon getting to the new home, it was also apparent that this home was also unclean-- we noticed dust and even a used bandaid that was left in the bathroom. The worst part however was not having hot water for over 48 hours. We were reduced to washing our children in freezing cold water or extemely cold showers. After calling multiple times, we still did not get someone to the home until hours later on the day after Christmas only to be told that the issue was not something that could be easily fixed. By this time, we were due to check out the next day, so we suffered. Never could I have imagined a family trip resulting in this many issues within such a short period of time. A time that was supposed to filled with family and memories was essentially a stop and go ordeal of solving very large repair issues that should never have been the responsibility of us as guests. Furthermore, while there was customer service given, it was not enough and very reactive as opposed to proactive. Knowing that a serious storm was on the horizon, an email should not have been seen as sufficient. Guests should have been warned via text or call about the ensuing dangers and potential issues that may occur in freezing temperatures in an area not equipped to handle it. While the time cannot be replaced, I expect and would greatly appreciate full compensation that would help to at least make our family feel heard and seen for the experience we had this holiday weekend.
Manager response:
Herman, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us following your visit. We are truly sorry to hear of the disappointing stay you had at our home and we apologize for the cleanliness concerns you encountered upon your arrival. Unfortunately, during your stay, we had extreme freezing temperatures and multiple houses had to be moved due to issues caused by the low temperatures. Our local staff confirms all the items reported have been addressed. We appreciate you allowing us to compensate you for the disappointing stay and we hope we can have another chance in the future to host you for a much more enjoyable experience!

Had a great time visiting. 3rd floor was a wonderful indoor / outdoor space.
Great spot to see the sunrise in the AM without walking to the beach.
Kitchen is a galley with 2 dishwashers which was a major plus.
Game room was a plus on a rainy day.
House needs a little touching up but nothing major.
Some updating has been made lately especially in the bathrooms.
We had a blast hosting our family reunion here.

We LOVED the pool, the location close to the beach, the games in the basement, plenty of TVs, the very comfortable large home with well stocked kitchen and a bed for everyone, and two dishwashers! We loved the ice maker!
We did NOT love the traffic, dysfunctional coffee grinders, coffee pots, and clothes washer, the lack of strainers for the kitchen sink drains, no bathmats for tub/shower areas, or wash rags for kitchen. The hot tub was broken til the day before we left. There were not enough forks for the rest of the silverware and we had to wash them constantly. There are beaters but no mixer, and we had trouble finding lids to match the pots and pans. There’s an ugly crack and dent in the bedroom door off the kitchen. The upstairs was bright and cheerful but the entrance and lower levels could do with a freshening up.
We had a great time despite these challenges!

Our family really enjoyed Millennium Sunrise. The house is really spacious, the decks made it feel so much bigger. When we weren’t at the beach the kids stayed in the pool or the game room downstairs. The kitchen is very well stocked with just about anything you’d ever need to cook/serve a meal for a large group (we had 13). We were all able to enjoy meals together and when needed there was enough space to “get away” and find a space to yourself. This property is located near enough to shopping/sightseeing/recreation that you don’t ever have to drive too far if you are interested in those things. We all agreed that we would visit again!

Had a wonderful stay. Weather was beautiful.

Bathroom mold and mold in the vents. 1 of 2 dishwashers did not work. Best outdoor furniture; Pool design safe for kids & pets. Great TVs. Thermostat was not programmable—a real hassle in the hot weather.
Manager response:
Hi, Donald! Thank you for choosing to stay with us. Housekeeping inspectors checked the home for mold and were unable to locate any; housekeeping will continue to keep a close eye out as a precaution. This homeowner has installed a smart thermostat to ensure the HVAC system is not overworked. Maintenance will take a look at the dishwasher. We hope to see you again!

Nicely stocked kitchen for us to have a remote holiday week. Lovely location.
