Lovely Orcas Island craftsman-style home in serene setting, with inviting deck

This lovely Craftsman-style vacation home on Orcas Island is a little piece of paradise located in a peaceful, quiet community. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts design movement of the early 20th century, the interior is open and warm, with hardwood floors, stained glass accents, and exposed woodwork. A pleasing spot both inside and out, up to six guests will greatly enjoy a stay at the aptly named Whispering Pines Retreat.

The main floor is a bright and light filled open concept living room, dining room, and kitchen with ten-foot-high ceilings. The living room includes large windows and Mission-style wood furniture with comfortable cushions, colorful throw rugs, and a beautifully tiled gas fireplace. Pick a cozy spot to settle in, choose a book or game from the many shelves, and relax. There is a stereo with an iPod dock, a smart TV with Roku streaming channels, and a DVD player, so you'll have no shortage of entertainment for those cold, stormy days. Free WiFi is available in case you need to check work emails, research possible island excursions, or find a new salmon recipe for dinner.

The home itself is well-equipped to entertain you both indoors and out! There are also two kayaks, a badminton/volleyball kit, tennis gear (two rackets and balls), a large beach umbrella, beach chairs, water vests, beach towels, and four adult bicycles to make the most of your time outdoors.

The fully equipped kitchen has butcher block counters, colorful coffee mugs, and a cookbook collection for culinary inspiration. All the appliances, dishes, and utensils you need to create tasty vacation meals are right at your fingertips. Appliances include a coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, coffee press, slow cooker, pancake griddle, popcorn maker, and waffle maker.

The nearby dining room is open to the living area, making it easy to spread out and socialize. Glass French doors off the dining room lead out to a large deck with a west view of the saltwater bay of Eastsound through the forested landscape. On the south side of the house, off the living room, is a sunny brick patio surrounded by rosemary, lavender, and fir trees. On sunny days, you can dine al fresco and breathe in the fresh Puget Sound air!

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, all with queen-size beds, soft bedding, and decorative touches throughout each room. There is a beautiful water view through the trees. The two bathrooms are also located upstairs and feature a white hexagonal tile floor, pedestal sinks, framed botanical drawings, and walk-in showers.

Orcas Island is 57 square miles of scenic hills, lakes, sea views, and forests. Like the other three main islands in the San Juan Island archipelago, it is accessible by the Washington State Ferry, private boat, or plane.

Less than five miles away, you'll want to spend plenty of time walking around picturesque Eastsound, the largest town on the island. Here you will find historic homes and buildings, some dating back to the late 1800s. This charming village has many art galleries, museums, shops, bookstores, cafes, and restaurants. Don't miss the other smaller towns of Olga, Deer Harbor, and Orcas Village. Dining out on Orcas Island offers a variety of choices, ranging from casual cafes to some of the finest restaurants in the Northwest.

Outdoor activities on Orcas Island include golfing at Orcas Island Golf Course, biking the rolling island hills, horseback riding, whale watching, kayaking, beachcombing, and bird watching. Located just minutes from the cabin, Moran State Park has over 5,000 acres of forest and almost 40 miles of trails to explore. Besides hiking the many nature trails, this is a popular destination for lake swimming, boating, fishing, and picnicking. Up for a challenge? Hike or drive to the 2,400-foot summit of Mount Constitution and gaze out over both the US and Canada!

Leave your stresses behind, come rejuvenate and create lasting memories in this little piece of paradise.
