We loved the Hicks House for the location, spacious layout and beautiful gulf view from the wall of windows and the expansive two tiered deck. The house was very spacious and with 6 adults and 4 children we never felt crowded. The decor was very pleasant and beach themed. The attached walkway to the beach was very nice and the covered space under the house was a plus for storing beach chairs, umbrellas and beach toys, not to mention the great grilling area. A recommendation we would have would be to remove the rug runners in the kitchen/living room and the area carpet in one bedroom as they were tripped over and slipped on repeatedly. While the house was basically clean, there was mold in the hallway bathtub, the dining room light fixture needed cleaning and the bath towels/facial wash cloths were in need of bleaching or replacing as the majority were stained. The cabinet that held the kitchen waste can was very dirty. Despite these things we really enjoyed our stay at the Hicks House. So much so that we booked another family vacation at Hicks House for 2018 and look forward to making more family memories on the beautiful Dauphin Island East End.

Great house right on the gulf. The laid back,

slow down attitude on the island is just what we needed as a family.

My sister and I rented Hicks House after spending time on the west end of the island the previous two years. The location of this house was great for our younger kids, ages 3-5, as the water was very calm (almost like a lake). Our older kids, ages 9-14 preferred the other side of the island. This house had an amazing deck, and the boardwalk was very nice. The description of the house said it had an outside shower, which wasn't correct. There was a faucet, but not even a hose. We bought one and left it for the next family, so that wasn't too bad.

The house itself was nice, but somewhat cluttered inside. We had issues with keys that the rental company fixed promptly (great rental company!). My only real problem with the house was the kitchen. It was lacking in cookware, which made cooking a hassle. This was a considerable drawback, as we planned on cooking for most of our meals. We were able to make do, but the other houses I have rented were much better equipped in this department.

Parking underneath the house was great, and there is very little sand in my car this year! For the price, it was a good house.
