Dog-friendly cabin with room for eight, close ski access!
This adorable Government Camp vacation cabin is pet-friendly, has close ski access, and room for eight people!
Located just a few blocks from downtown Government Camp along with nearby ski lifts like Timberline, Mt. Hood Meadows, and SkiBowl, this Mt. Hood vacation rental is perfect for outdoor adventurers! There's alway something to explore in this region, and "Govy" is a fantastic mountain town with shopping, dining, and bars to hop around.
With wooden ceilings that stretch high above the ground in a gorgeous V-shape alongside a cabin-like feel, this home is your ideal ski chalet in the woods!
The living room is open and relaxing with a wood-burning stove, plush couches, Southwest-inspired armchairs, and lots of natural light from the sliding glass doors and windows. With WiFi, board games, and books lining the shelves, your whole group can stay entertained no matter what time of season.
The well-equipped open kitchen provides an intimate place to hang out and prepare dinner, but you'll have to rock-paper-scissors over who does the dishes! Four people can sit around the simple dining table, and there are four more spots at the breakfast bar where you can sip coffee and get ready for the day.
There's one cozy queen-size bed on the main level, a sofabed, and a full bathroom to share. Upstairs in the loft, there is another queen-size bed with two bedside tables and more privacy, as well as two twin beds that look out into the living room (perfect for the kids!). Altogether, this abode can fit eight people!
Everyone in your crew will appreciate the deck and backyard with lovely forest views as well as lots of space to spread out. For an additional fee, you can bring your dogs here, and there's even a fire pit to congregate around when the sun goes below the horizon! The gas grill ensures you'll have delicious BBQ, and there's also a private washer/dryer as part of this home to keep everyone's gear dry.
This area is fabulous whether it's the hottest months of summer or the depths of winter! Timberline Ski Lodge is just 13 miles away where you'll find year-round skiing and snowboarding (there are tons of pros here in July!). SkiBowl is less than a mile down the road for some of the best night skiing in America, and Mt. Hood Meadows is less than 15 miles away where you can check out varied terrain, including backcountry.
Besides all the great riding in cooler months, there's so much to do here for any type of adventurer! Mt. Hood provides numerous hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as panoramic vistas to see and lakes to swim in. There's an avid fishing scene thanks to the fresh streams, lakes, and rivers from Mt. Hood's peak, as well as other adorable mountain towns like Welches and Rhododendron.
Government Camp is a welcoming and fun place to hang out, but the Columbia River Gorge and Hood River are just 45 miles away, as well as the city of Portland less than 60 miles from here!
Settle into some of Oregon's best in this wonderful Mt. Hood vacation rental!
This place is amazing. Loved every aspect of it. Wood burning stove was great with an awesome upstairs sleeping area, 3 minute walk to the center of Govy. I will note, the stairs to the upstairs sleeping area is very steep/close quarters, probably not good for people who have mobility issues, but truly is a cool mountain feature. Would visit again for sure
Nice location and lots of condimenys & utensils. Nice small gift is better than Other company rental groups. Cute little cozy home....
My wife, daughter, our husky and I spent 4 nights in the cool little cabin. Everything was in walking distance, and yet it was so quiet and peaceful. The driveway is a little tight with snow banks on either side, but that was not enough to justify this awesome little a frame. Bring firewood or pick it up from sandy on your way through, as you only get enough for the first night. The house gets pretty nippy without the wood stove going. The pictures do not show it, but there is a tv in the living room with Netflix and amazon prime. We had a great time and will definitely be back
Got 4ft of snow. The guys on plows helped me get in the driveway. Nice to have that help when there's that much snow.
You are within walking distance of Government Camp and Ski Bowl ski area. Quite spot, a bit rustic, but very much a mountain cabin - we really enjoyed it.
Very cute cabin, super accessible to everything...walked to downtown, the brewpub and the lifts at Skibowl. Super clean and has everything that you could possibly think of. Super relaxing!
We had a great time everything we could have needed .
The cabin was lovely, all we could need in the kitchen. We were able to roast a chicken & bake a pie. The fireplace was absolutely lovely & the supplied wood was greatly appreciated. The beds were a bit stiff but we just loved the homey feel of this pet friendly & comfy cabin.
Super cozy and nice. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils and the beds are comfy. I love the layout of this place. The loft is nice and the living room is a great place to hang out. I will definitely stay here again if I get the chance. Thanks!
Small, clean cabin perfect for our family of four and two small dogs. The location was superb - very easy walk into town or to the Adventure Park (and hiking trails). Lots of amenities, everything we needed for three days.
This perfect little cabin has all that you need. It’s perfectly tucked away for a peaceful relaxing get away, but also close to the main amenities and attractions the mound hood has to offer. I love this beautiful traditional wooden cabin x
Inside. Clean, neat and homey. My kids loved sleeping upstairs in the loft. I found the downstairs bed very firm. The kitchen had all you would need and bonus points for a nice selection of board games. The cabin stayed cool on 85 degree days.
Outside. No grass and dusty, rocky roads. The house is about 500 feet from the main road of Government camp, there are other houses about 40-50 feet away. The fire pit was moderately secluded with high plants growing around it. We did not notice the main road or town noises.
In one word - everything.
In more words - every little thing.
Wonderful rustic cabin near Mt Hood hiking trails. Has all the basic amenities and is in walking distance to Government Camp. The only weakness: uncomfortable beds.
Home was warm, lovely and cozy. There were a few minor issues I hope the owner deals with but otherwise the place has almost everything we needed! Kitchen was well-stocked with dishes and utensils and it looked like past guests had left a few basic pantry items (salt and pepper, oil, a few spices, etc.).
Things to bring if you stay here: your own snow shovel, hatchet or axe to chop wood, scratch paper/pens for games.
The A-Frame was cute and in a great location. We could tell the owners put care into making it nice. We had everything we needed for our family and we had lots of fun cooking and playing board games after big days on the mountain. Thank you.
Great spot close to everything, cozy cabin.
Pretty much exactly what we wanted, in Govy, "A" frame with heat and a wood stove, lots of room for guests and its ok to bring the dog! Very happy with the place.
We enjoyed our stay in this home. Some areas of the home were a bit worn, but overall, our two adults and two kids had a great time. It was an easy to walk to town and to the local Ski Bowl and Summit Ski areas. Be prepared that heating the home was primarily done using the wood stove. However, plenty of wood was provided for our 4 night stay. We would definitely stay here again.
We have stayed in this cabin twice, and loved it both times equally. Great location, comfortable and warm, well equipped kitchen. We are very likely to come for a 3rd time and more.
My partner and I stayed at Dexter's Woods for two nights, and it was absolutely perfect. We had no issues checking into the cabin, and we were surprised at how well equipped it was- all the necessities for cooking and cleaning. It was snowing as we arrived and we were struck by how pretty it was to use the fireplace and watch the snow fall outside the cabin. It was the perfect comforting getaway. 10/10 would come back to this gorgeous spot.
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we couldn't have picked a better place! The house is adorable furnished and stocked while also being a walk away from Government camp. We spent our days exploring western Oregon and the nights cuddled in front of the woodstove watching netflix. The whole house is cozy and inviting and the property itself while being very close to the other houses is so covered in trees that you feel totally secluded and tucked away. WE LOVED IT! Already making plans to come back next year for our anniversary! :)
We enjoyed the cleanliness, coziness, and privacy of the home. It's a short walk to shops and restaurants. A great place to stay while we kayaked some of the lakes in the area.
The cabin is right across the street from ski bowl East and across the bridge from downtown Govy! And no road noise at all. Everything is within a 10 minute walk which is very convenient. The cabin itself was very rustic and felt very ski chalet, very charming. The fire pit area was great for roasting marshmellows after a day at the lake. The bedrooms were small but adaquate. The loft area with the twin beds was very fun. Be aware that the bedrooms do not have doors, they have curtains so make sure you are comfy with the crew you are going with :) we saw some comments about ants but never had any issue. All around great place to rent and bring your pup. Had a great time and we will be back to rent again soon for sure!
Great little spot for a getaway. Good quiet location but close to the main drag in government camp
Great location. Weird smell.
The cabin was perfect and a great getaway. The only thing is Ski-bowl is closed on the week days during the day and sometimes at night so you still have to drive up the hill to Meadows or Timberline for Mon-Thur skiing.. But other than that it is secluded and very very cute and cozy..A Winter Wonderland
Great house, close to everything...would stay here again
I rented Dexter while my future in-laws were visiting from out of state. The cabin was great location but the cabin itself was awful, as was the management company when it came to addressing issues. The main breaker kept blowing because everything in the cabin runs off of two fuses and is strung together by power strips. We had no heaters (in a mountain cabin, in the winter), no refrigerator, half the lights worked, and the TV wouldn't stay on. We even tried to unplug everything except for the heaters (including the refrigerator) and one light and it continued to short out. I called Friday evening to alert someone at the Management Company. I was told someone would be by the next day to address this issues. No one showed. I sent an email and called the next day (Saturday) and didn't get a reply until 8:30pm. They came the following day (Sunday- the last night of our stay) to fix the fuses. This was an awful experience. Everyone was freezing cold and we couldn't use the kitchen, but no one at the management company cared. I would not recommend renting from this company to anyone.
We apologize for the experience this guest had while staying here. We did attempt to reach this guest immediately after being contacted but were unable to make contact. There has never been a breaker problem before at this property, and we have not had anyone experience this problem since this reservation either. Again, we apologize that it was an issue during this guest's reservation.
It was a perfect cabin for a couple of nights away from the city! Thank you!
This was a charming, cozy, old fashioned cabin that we all loved -- it didn't feel like a condo, it felt much more like an ski cabin in the woods. My 11 year old daughter and her friend fell in love with the cabin!
This cabin is rustic and adequate.
Good place and cheap for the area. Small but size perfect for 4 adults and 2 kids. Basic but well-stocked. However, NOT good for little children as upstairs loft with the 2 twin beds is only separated from downstairs by a hole in the floor/steep ladder and a bunch of caribeeners and ropes at the second floor overhang instead of a wall. Also not good for tall people as upstairs bedroom and bathroom are very sloped walls. Otherwise charming and rustic and couldn't be a better location. WE liked the vibe and overall comfortable. Beware in general this area can be loud at night with party people and the nearby night ski resort that plays loud music in the evening.
Overall, staying at the Mt. Hood Cabin was great. It is a charming little spot in a fantastic location. The beds were comfy and we absolutely enjoyed our stay.
While I am a little picky about some of the particulars (Furnishings were rather rustic, which I feel is somewhat to be expected when renting a cabin. That being said, the kitchen knife was chipped and broken, several coffee mugs had chips in them, the pans were in mediocre shape for cooking, and the cabinet handles were loose and falling apart), the cabin was great. I wish I would have known to bring my own firewood, because we arrived and couldn't use the woodstove, which would have made it totally awesome.
Great spot and I recommend it to others!
The Property Manager has replaced the knife set as we as the pots and pans. All loose handles and fixtures have been tightened. Thank you!
The house is very clean, cute and cozy.
I, like other guests, was given the wrong lockbox code. A quick call to management resolved it.
The stairs going up to the loft are very steep. Thankfully I only needed the main floor bedroom. All amenities worked perfectly.
I was looking for a smaller cabin that had a wood stove
And allowed my dog to stay. For me this place was exactly
What I was looking for. Everything worked great and I had no issues, the only thing that would have been nice would've
been to have a stockpile of firewood.
One nice thing was it location relative to town, It was
Walking distance to everything I needed!
Thanks, for the great place to stay!!
The house is charming, and we wanted to like it more than we did. There were little things that kept intruding. It's a very idiosyncratic place, which we like as long as everything works as expected. The kitchen is better suited to snacking than to cooking and the inadequate heating set up is a little frustrating in very cold weather. There were no fatal flaws, but a little more attention to details would help.
Really sweet older A-frame cabin feel - nice wood stove - but too small for more than 2 (4 at most)people and one dog at most- staircase to upstairs is steep and small - too hard for our dog to manage- bring shovels to clear snow to side door
Pretty dumpy. Dog fur in the in the bed sheets. We paid for two nights and stayed one.
We apologize that there was a cleanliness oversight for this reservation; we will follow-up with the housekeeping staff.
Had a wonderful stay with 6 adults and 3 dogs. The house was slightly smaller than expected but honestly it was still amazing. Next time we'll just leave the dogs at home :) Super cute interior and very cozy, exactly what we were looking for. The loft bedroom upstairs was unbelievably cozy, felt like we were sleeping in a little wooden tent! The back deck was somewhat close to the neighbors but that's not necessarily a negative, just something to note. Clean and tidy, would absolutely stay again.
We loved this dog friendly, cozy cabin. Exactly what we needed for a weekend away with great friends. So close to timberline, we loved hiking along the trails. Enjoyed the fire pit as well. Everything was very clean.
Definitely would recommend going here vs staying at a hotel in the area. Much closer to Government Camp center, and likewise great views of the mountain. Probably 18 minutes to the parking lot near the lodge, which was a great drive and afternoon of sights.
The cabin was well maintained, well outfitted with a coffee grinder and coffee machine, both of which were welcome amenities we wouldn't get at a hotel.
Our family of four really enjoyed staying in this house. Very clean, very easy to get to town, but not right in town. It felt relaxing and just the right size for the four of us. I would not take kids here younger than 6, however, because the bathroom in downstairs, and from the upstairs bedrooms you have to walk down a fairly steep ladder-like staircase.
The cute little house house is simple, nothing really speacial, but it was very comfortable. We really enjoyed the netflix streaming. After a long lay out enjoying mount hood nature it was great to wind down to a movie or tv show.
Nice little cabin, walking distance to Skibowl East and the heart of Government camp. Fun for kids. (Would avoid toddlers due to ladder to loft and required electrical cords) the loft is great the yard is forest foliage. There is a house close buy but it was empty and wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't. The fire pit was great. You will enjoy this charming little A-frame.
The only problem I had with this place is that we were given the wrong code to open the key case. Other than that everything was great!
My wife and I were looking for a confortable and authentic place to stay at, as we were looking to hike near Mt Hood. This is exactly what we found at Dexter Woods. The small chalet is well equipped and comfortable. It is also well located near the heart of town and near all outdoors activities there can be in the area! We had a lovely stay overall. PS: Anybody afraid of sleeping alone in the woods should probably not pick Dexter Woods! ;)
Our family had a great time we had 3 little ones and a teen. We had trouble getting into the cabin at first because we were given the wrong code but got it sorted out quickly. The cabin was well stocked they had lots of plastic utensils for the kids and even a dog bed and bowls but we didn't have a dog haha but it might be helpful for someone who wants to take their pup up there with them. We stayed plenty warm and the views were beautiful. We had gone into Portland for a few of the days and the drive wasn't too far. We hope to come back just for the awesome hikes around Mt.Hood.
We had a blast! Tight quarters for 8 adults but loved it anyway!!
It was a very cute cabin with a good ski and outdoor vibe. I like the easy walk to Gov't camp main street. We were very comfortable and knew to bring our own firewood. Thanks for everything. Chris.
The heaters didn't work! Two small portable heaters were at the location, but they were loud, incapable of heating the cabin to my comfort level in a decent amount of time, and they kept tripping the breaker switch when the oven, microwave, or hair dryer was used. Otherwise, a cute place, clean, and a great location. Very small. Sleeps five or six at the most, IMHO.
Very cozy, homey feel cabin. Located in a peaceful quiet location, even though we noticed a neighbor awfully close to us stepping out onto the balcony it wasn't an issue in terms of privacy. Night time you can't see anything but the beautiful stars and the snow. Romantic kickback vibe if your looking for a getaway. They also have a flat screen Vizio TV with Netflix which we found it to be extremely convenient. Only real downfall was the heating system, it didn't seem to work so we used the 2 portable heaters provided to keep the cabin warm. Overall a good stay.
Ski cabin was cute and cozy. Tight for 8 people though. Slightly rustic- could use a bit of updating, but we had a good time there. Fireplace and location were great.
We loved the location and the cute chalet. But we were quite cold and had to use all the space heaters. Wish they had provided firewood. Balcony should have been shoveled off so we could step out to enjoy the view. Directions were difficult as road signs covered in snow. Must have traction tires or chains to drive around up there. The town is easily accessed by foot, which was wonderful. Loved the location. And the cabin is so cute! The furniture is well used, but adequate. Bed upstairs was very comfortable. Nice down comforters.
Thank you for your review. We apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay and are happy to see that you still enjoyed the home!
Great location, cute A-frame made for a perfect winter getaway!
We loved our weekend getaway with friends! The location of this house is great. It's a short walk to both the shops at Government camp and Skibowl. We loved walking around the neighborhoods and playing in the snow and then relaxing back at the house. We got a lot of use out of the games and puzzles provided with the house!
One drawback for us was that the house was really tight with 5 adults and 1 child. It sleeps 8, and we originally had one other person who was supposed to come with us but had a conflict last minute. This was probably a good thing; we couldn't have imagined having one more person in there. It would be great for a couple, two couples, a small family or a couple of friends! The small space didn't bother us too much, but we probably wouldn't be back with that many people again.
Great location, cute cozy old school cabin. Would recommend a "House Manuel" for a few things.....tv operation (we weren't able to get any stations but there was Netflix but no password) We contacted Vacasa, they said they would let someone know but we never heard back. Luckily we brought our own devices otherwise there would have been no movie night. Also, to provide newspaper and kindling along with firewood or let guests know to bring. We arrived and all stores were closed. Once we got the fire makings and movies up and running all was good. Could've been a bit smoother:) We did have a great time!
We enjoyed this house, had 8 people and we all slept comfortable. The only thing we were "surprised" about was the house shaking when specific people walked, or the washer was going. (but understand it is on stilts) I didn't pay attention to the fact there wasn't a dishwasher, but had no problem hand washing everything with a drying rack provided. We definitely want to come back this winter, the location is perfect!
