Vacasa really stepped up their customer service. Extremely fast response times to any complaints. That being said, it isn't anything luxurious, you're going to run into problems here and there within this old house as previous reviews mentioned.

Location and service more than makes up for it, as we spent 90% of our time on the slopes.

Is this the right place for you? It depends on what you're looking for. When I booked, this place was half the price of all the other places around ... if you read all the other reviews, you'll see why. They are all accurate. If location is important, then this is the place for you. If staying at a nice place is important, then do not stay here.

Positives - The price! The best ski in / ski out location on Sugar Mountain. Everything works. (Side note - one of the heaters overheated and the management company had somebody out in less than 30 minutes and it was fixed in 5 minutes - Thanks Vacasa).

Negatives - It's old and dank. Even though the counters, tables, kitchen, bathroom, etc ... where all cleaned very well, Everything is so old and dank that the place feels dirty (like a motel). One of the windows was held in and sealed with duct tape. The living room chair had a tear in it. Very few of the light switches work, but there are a bunch of lamps around and they all work.

Stay here if you don't mind less than luxurious accommodations or if you are on a tight budget. You will not find a better location.

Manager response:
We appreciate you staying with us, Stan. The property manager is working with the homeowner to get some minor updates done after the ski season. We will be checking the window and light switches for repair. Thank you!

This rental has so much potential but just falls flat due to its level of care. Some challenges likely sit with the management company but much with the owner.

Not so good
- pics were not representative of the unit; the exterior is now a dark color (nearly black) with the unit number the same color which made finding it more difficult than it should have been
- outdated, as in never updated since built
- no soap
- not sure that the master sheets were changed as the bed was very poorly made
- fireplace was full of ash
- there was not shovel to clean the ash
- baseboard heaters, 2 or 3 did not work
- duct tape used to seal one of the windows
- blinds in bedroom do not keep out all of the light
- carpet is worn out and smells of unine in master bedroom
- master bedroom mattress should be replaced

- location is prime, slopeside can't be beat
- fireplace works very well, thankfully, since the baseboard heaters did not

A little tlc with the rental would go a long way. Not saying a full update is needed though neighbor units are being completely renovated. At min, the owners should invest in some updates including flooring and aspects that would indicate a clean place to stay.

Hoping that this review helps others in their decision making process as we were pretty disappointed in our stay.
Manager response:
Hi, Anthony! We're so glad you stayed with us and appreciate your helpful feedback. Our housekeeping manager has been advised of your review so we can ensure cleanliness is brought up to our expectations. A deep clean is getting scheduled as well. We do hope to have the opportunity to host you again someday. Thanks!

The location was great. But it had not been cleaned at all and needs serious updates. The personal were very helpful and apologetic .
Manager response:
Thank you for your review, Ken. We sincerely apologize for the cleanliness issues you encountered upon arrival. Thank you for getting ahold of us so we could make it right. We have passed along your feedback regarding the updates that need to be made to our local manager. They will work directly with the homeowner to make any needed changes. We hope to have the opportunity to impress you in the future!

Ski in and ski out is the only way to experience Sugar. It’s a decent cabin - not a luxury suite, the location outweighs any minor deficiencies.

The place - it's small and rundown, but wow the location is everything if your looking to ski with the family!

Perfect spot in the middle of the nicest part of NC in our minds. It was just 2 of us, and that we perfect, if it were a foursome, it would have been a little tight.

Perfect for a weekend get away. It's rustic and could use a little sprucing up, but had everything we needed.

The location in sugar mountain was super convenient but the chalet itself felt dirty. Outside were all kinds of debri and tools left lying around. Inside the carpet and windows were filthy and there were cobwebs at the top of the windows and in the rafters. It smelled like a nursing home and was so dark with only a few dim lamps around at night.
Manager response:
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear the condition of the condo did not meet your expectations. The owner has had an interior/exterior renovation done to this home. All electrical issues have since been addressed and the owner has painted as well as replaced the carpet. We have since tripled our housekeeping and management teams as well as hired new property inspectors. We hope to host you again soon!

We were looking forward to this cabin based on pictures and some decent reviews. We travel a lot and tend to not be super picky. When we arrived none of the lights worked. The place had not been properly cleaned. There was a used coffee mug still on the porch and hair all over the bathroom and the counters were dirty. The house is very outdated and has a terrible musty smell. It is in desperate need of paint and new carpets. The carpets are stained throughout the entire cabin. The TVs would not work and there was no WiFi. We tried plugging and unplugging different options and reset the switches on the switchboard. Nothing worked. I have never written a negative review for air bnb and have used them for years. We actually just used Vacasa through air bnb a month ago and had a great experience. I spent over an hour on hold and sent emails and messages and never got a response. I completely understand a pandemic is going on, but places should be advertised honestly and not charge $250 a night for a place such as this. Truly hoping Vacasa does something to make this right and hoping they don’t rent this place out again until it is fixed.
Manager response:
Hi, Meagan! Thank you for staying with us and sharing your review. You were the last reservation prior to a large renovation project that addressed your concerns and then some. Our housekeeping team has also tripled so we can provide a thorough clean at each home between each guest. We hope you will come see the improvements!

Loved the inside and outside, super great distance to everything, including a food lion right down the road. About 35 from Laurel Creek, which was awesome

This was a nice little slopesider. It could use some updates, but it was a great place to stay and was well equipped.

Nice place with a great location. It was clean and when I needed a few things handled (burned out lights), someone came the next day to fix them. Could use some updating but was very comfortable and enjoyable for the long holiday weekend at a great price. We didn't need one, but an additional parking spot would be a plus, for loading and unloading a large vehicle. I will most likely try and stay here again in the future.

Super location to ski in and ski out. Easy access. Thanks!
