The views all around were beautiful. The home had everything we needed to accommodate our family. It’s a true cottage and very comfortable. The deck is spacious and the fire pit was lovely. Nice and quiet setting also. We really enjoyed exploring.

This place is amazing. It’s funky, charming, and very comfortable. It is a cottage, not a luxury hotel, so just know that’s what you’re booking and make sure it’s right for you. Linens provided, towels abundant. The hot tub was nice and ready to go. It was fun for my 18 month old to run around the property, but the shore is steep, there are stairs to the dock, and I always had to be right on his heels, and made sure he was always wearing a life vest by the lake. Despite the antique charm of the cottage, and rickety appearance, everything seems to be well-reinforced for safety. There are bugs, and there are probably mice sometimes, because it is a lake house. We were a family of 6 adults and two babies amd we were very comfortable! Thank you Vacasa!

This home is a hidden gem! It offers a very scenic private stay that allows you to take in all the beauty the lake has to offer. This is a prime location close to Watkins Glen and many fabulous wineries!

The location was remote and what we needed during the pandemic. Loved the lake view and access for swimming and fishing. This is a very old fishing cabin that the family has tried to upgrade. Nice porches for enjoying the lake. The tap water is from the lake. Ok for washing. There is an electric bottled water dispenser for consumption. Kitchen has portable dishwasher and old gas stove. Some dampness on lower level. Only one shower. Other full bath is a tub. They are upgrading the outdoor area. We really enjoyed our stay.

This house is badly maintained and in desperate need of TLC. There were giant flies breeding somewhere in the house and I had to kill and vacuum dozens of them daily. There is no proper insulation and we got tons of mosquito bites. The house is filled with kitsch and garbage and there is no space to store any of your belongings. The listing says 2 full bathrooms but in fact the main floor bathroom only has a tub and no way to shower so we had to share one shower in the basement. None of the interior doors close so there is no privacy. In addition, the stream adjacent to the house was reeking of septic. The worst thing is that the owner left rat poisons around the house and our dog ate it. We had to take him to the emergency vet an hour away in the night. The owner never apologized or contacted us directly about this incident. This is all true. We have photos to prove it. Despite promises to give us refund, Vacasa has yet to process it. No one has responded to our complaints in a professional manner. Never using this company’s service again.
Hi, Miwako! We appreciate your feedback and hope your stay felt better after we immediately resolved the rat poison matter. A condition report has been scheduled for the homeowner so they can have a comprehensive list of what needs to be fixed to make the home as comfortable as possible for our guests. Thank you!

The location was beautiful and right on the lake. We noticed the description on the listing stated a playground and sandbox for the kids but upon arrival they were not found. The kids were disappointed but it was no big deal. The walkway down to the dock was very nice with a view of a waterfall. Breathe taking, yes, but so is the smell in the downstairs of the house. There were dehumidifiers to run but even running that and having the door open wouldn't get rid of the strong moldy damp smell. It seems the caretaker tried to mask this with glade plug ins but the root of the problem is most likely damp wood with mold growing on it. If you have allergies and/or asthma do not go here as you will mostly likely have a flair up. There were mice excrement on some the shelving in the downstairs master bedroom and bedding. The toilet didn't work on the first night we arrived as well as a dirty shower in the downstairs bathroom. I contacted the Vacasa number via text and photos of the dirty bathroom and had a call back, I was advised that someone would come out to fix the toilet if not that day then the next due to short staff. I was refunded the cleaning fee $135 and the hot tub fee $45 (pH balanced unknown, we couldn't get the temperature regulated and I ended up getting a painful rash from it; hot tub folliculitis). My total to rent this property for three nights was $1312.42. If I had known this was going to be the service and accommodations I would have stayed at a hotel and saved money or chose another property.
While it was charming the lack of maintenance and upkeep ruined any sense of value from this rental. If you are ok accepting that you are basically camping in a house next to a lake, this may be a house for you. If not, know there are far better options to choose from. I could write more issues but you get the point.
Thank you for your feedback, Andrea. We are so sorry your stay was not more enjoyable. Our property caretake is making a list of improvements to be addressed with the homeowner, and we do hope to see you again after the work is complete.

Belle's Buttercup is a 4th gen property - it's packed with character and charm but that does not come without a downside. It's old, it's rustic - you will not find high-end appliances and central A/C. The shower is a water saving head - if you like to be blasted by multi-jets, this is not for you. There were some cobwebs and cabin critters (saw a couple house spiders and worms in the ground level bathroom seeking moisture) - the property could be shored up on the outside to ensure nothing gets in. But you are in the woods, on a lake. In the dead of summer there are lake smells and humidity. We spent most of our time enjoying the lake, the fire pit, eating out, using the canoe, and fishing. Things you do on vacation. I'd visit again but in fall weather. It's a great place, fantastic location. What I expected of an older lake home.

Belle's Buttercup is a charming lakehouse with all of the amenities of home. The rooms had a lot of character, bordering on spooky, but fun! (This place should probably be on Atlas Obscura.) It has a lived in feel that I appreciate when it comes to cooking, relaxing, and enjoying time with friends and family. There is ample space and a variety of areas to gather or enjoy time alone. The balconies with table and seating were a favorite! The space on the lake was nicely arranged for campfires, stargazing, swimming and row-boating. In response to some of the other reviews. At the time of our visit, all water was clean and functional; there was also a water cooler for drinking water. There were a few bugs, minimal, but in my opinion that comes with staying in a lakeside, wooded property. The only thing I would recommend is clearing the spiderwebs, and having better cleaning implements for guests to use while visiting. There was ample signage for use of the amenities in the house but they could be clearer (namely for the hot tub and stove).

Whether enjoying a morning cup of coffee watching the sun rise over Seneca or a glass of wine as the sun sets, nothing beats the beautiful views from this house. A private dock with a fire pit provides the perfect setting for vacation relaxing, and the house is large and private with every amenity a family could want. We come back every year!

Take a step back into the past in this unique lakeside home. Enjoy the cozy, fully-equipped kitchen, relax beside one of the fireplaces, jump into the clear lake or just enjoy the view at Belles Buttercup. Interesting antiques and collectibles evoke memories of times gone by. This is a great place to get away from it all while still being close to everything you need.
