I love this house! We (2 adults and several children including a very active toddler) choose to stay at 4 Abalone anytime we visit IOP and it never disappoints! No stairs is great for little kids! Already planning our next trip!

When we were looking for a vacation home to rent in the Charleston, SC area, (my wife was REALLY looking forward to this trip) we found all the beautiful homes on the Isle of Palms and really thought this was the place to stay. Then we found 4 abalone alley. A house on the security gate side of the wild dunes resort. A short walk to the beach. Found wonderful photos of this house. Then we pulled up to the house, surrounded by beautiful houses, wow. We thought we found an amazing house. As we walked up to the door our attitude slowly changed. The landscaping has been ignored, (when was the last time anyone landscaped at this house? Years?) Trash on the ground around the sidewalk to the front entrance. So, seeing that we starting to look very closely at this house as the days passed. Paint chipped on the red walls in the front entrance, light bulbs burned out, lamps with wrong bulbs, electrical switches not or partially working (check the main entrance dimmer switch, no dimming), under cabinet lighting rotting (bulb fell down), televisions/cable in the house was horrible! Only 1 television was fully functional, (we had to reset the modem multiple times to watch television) 2 televisions were not connected at all and the main living room television was turned on but there was no cable feed to it. HVAC grill covers not installed properly, plumbing, 1 bathtub was clogged(first shower)(had to use a plunger), bathroom with rain shower head(over 50% of the head spouts were clogged) right-hand sink is slow to drain and is loose on the base, the toilet seat in this room is not properly fitted and loose. (Sitting on it for the first time nearly resulted in a fall) the ceiling fan does not work, towels hooks are not attached properly. 2 sliding doors to the pool area are fogging because of age and condition. The garage is a storage dump after we saw that we parked outside the entire stay. The garage also needs a carpenter and a painter. (You offer this garage for guests to park in?) Speaking of paint, many locations on and in this house needs the paint refreshed. Especially the area around the sliding doors to the pool, (cracking, missing, mold) The pool was very clean and the water was good. Speaking of the pool area, fence board out, slab around the pool desperately needs power washed! The pool chairs are disgusting! Shouldn't the chairs be a bright white? We were VERY DISAPPOINTED to see and experience all this in such a neighborhood and for what we paid for the 5 nights and knowing you charge $810 per night plus fees? This was the worst part of our trip! We did take photos of what we saw and am very willing to share them with you.
I wanted to highlight this issue separately. My wife found the bedroom she REALLY liked, as she pulled the comforter back she found dried blood on the sheet and pillow a case. In all the miles we have traveled we have never seen this! This is completely disgusting! I would think that the sheet and pillowcase should have been disposed of?!? VERY SAD!!!
We appreciate you staying with us, Robert, and wish you would have reached out during your stay for assistance with your concerns. The homeowner has hired a landscaping company and also plans to update the kitchen, sliding door, and painting this winter. Maintenance is being tasked to check the entrance dimmer, HVAC grill, ceiling fan, towel hooks, fence, pool chairs, bathtub, shower head, sink drain, and toilet seat. We apologize for the inconveniences and hope we have a chance to host you again in the future!

This is a great house with great potential! The location is amazing, the layout is perfect for large families, and it has all the amenities you need. However, this home lacks cleanliness and updating. There are a lot of cobwebs and dust throughout, appliances are outdated but work fine, and the landscaping is overgrown and in major need of some love (perfect breeding ground for bugs.) We had a small issue with the pool and Vacasa was VERY helpful. I do not have any complaints regarding the leasing agency, However, I think for the money the owners are receiving they could put a little extra TLC back into the property. If you only need a place to crash and a roof over your head this home will meet your need. If you prefer a more updated listing, this is not the home for you. My family and I fared just fine and the kids loved having the pool after a hot day at the beach.
Hello Erin, we are pleased to hear that the home met your expectations! Thank you for making mention of items in the home that need some TLC. We take this feedback seriously and please know that local staff is available to assist with any issues you encounter while in the home. We hope to have the chance to host you again. Thank you!

We loved having a private pool! Access to the beach is simple….. follow a path from the yard and walk a short block to the sand! The size of the house is wonderful for a large family. Each family dynamic had a “wing” of the house.

Loved the location but house has not been kept up and was dirty. Found cob webs, stains on pillows, chairs in kitchen broken, chairs outside filthy, tons of flies...overall not clean. I would not stay at this location unless there is some serious up keeping done.
Thank you for letting us know about your stay, Elizabeth. The broken chairs have been removed, pest control has been scheduled to tackle the flies, a deep clean will be scheduled, and follow-up training is scheduled for housekeeping staff. We hope to see you again!

The only thing was that house was roomy.

This spacious home fit our family of three nicely, but can easily accommodate as many as 10 or more. The single story is perfect for wandering toddlers, and anyone needing a break from stairs. Though not in the listing, it was a pleasant surprise to find the home fully stocked with booster seats, a pack n play, stroller, children’s colorful plates and utensils, games, puzzles, and more. We really enjoyed the play set in the back yard, and the quick walk to the beach through the secret path in the yard. The neighborhood (Wild Dunes) is beautiful and its sidewalks are perfect for easily walking with a stroller. Wild Dunes is quite extensive and not all homes, or even the hotel, are close to the main exit, but the location of this home made coming and going very easy. We explored much of Charleston - the Market, the Aquarium, etc., and were still able to get to the beach multiple times each day. This is our new favorite rental home on the island, and we will definitely be back! We recommend this home to anyone visiting IOP!

Our family of 6 adults and 2 young children had a wonderful Fall week at the beach, staying at Abalone Alley 4!
With 4 bedrooms, there was plenty of room to spread out in the house, & each of our three families had their own bathroom. The master bedroom is especially roomy & pleasant - a nice respite for happy, tired grandparents! The den right off the large, well-stocked kitchen was an added bonus, stocked with books, games & a large tv. A perfect setup for keeping watchful eyes on the little ones while fixing meals. You can also keep an eye on the pool activities from both the kitchen and the living room. We also appreciated the large island in the kitchen, which made food prep by several people at a time much easier.
We really enjoyed having the pool, as well as the playground set, both of which provided nice respites.
The walk from the house to the beach was very convenient, taking a short path through the backyard to the main Wild Dunes entrance sidewalk, crossing one road without any real difficulty to get to the beach side, followed by a relatively short stroll down a pleasant side street to the beach access. No problem for the little ones, either. Also, the beach itself at this access point had plenty of fun little tidal pools for young ones to, sit, play and explore in.
We would definitely consider staying here again!

The lay out of the home was perfect for us. The WiFi worked well for my grand children to continue doing the online schooling. Having the pool right there was very convenient so the kids could take breaks and play in the pool for short times during the day. We found the family room next to the kitchen to be a very comfortable area for games and family time in the evenings. The beach is a short walk, which we did each day with no problem at all. Bring citronella candles and or torches since there is a lot of brush in the back and around the house which makes the mosquitoes pretty bad. I gave the house 3 stars because of this and it does need some repairs.

The house was bigger and more updated than some of the pictures- particularly the pool Area and bathrooms. Here are some things to pass along;
1) two fridges in the house
2) if you cut through the back yard you’re one block from the beach (our three year old walked it daily)
3) mosquitos were bad in the back yard- minimal candles/tiki torches, bring your own
4) food trucks (during the pandemic) at the parking lot of the wild dunes was nice for not cooking but not ready to dine out
5) don’t skip a trip to SULLIVAN’S island (try hometeam bbq)
6) there is a mini market and breakfast/lunch grill at the marina which is close and never crowded compared to the Harris teeter on the island
7) internet was not super strong for anyone “remote working”
8) the Harris teeter in mt pleasant right before the island does pick up orders, as does target, but the Harris teeter on the island doesn’t
9) there were nice bath towels at the house, bring pool/beach towels- there were some chairs(2) pool noodles and floats that seemed to be left by others to use . The pictures are misleading there are no lights in the pool at night!
10) kitchen was stocked For basic cooking, bring your own laundry detergent and dryer sheets. One sponge, one load of dish detergent, one trash bag and one paper towel provided at check in.
Enjoy this beautiful beach and house!

We loved the house. It was larger than the pictures appeared and 9 of us fit perfectly. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and Eve we needed. Due to COVID we cooked every meal. 2 refrigerators was a nice surprise! The house was very clean and smelled of a fresh cleaning with bleach, except for the floors which left our feet black and no mop was found to clean it ourselves.
Access to the beach was fantastic and a quick walk. No beach chairs or beach towels available so bring your own. The pool is not heated so be prepared for that if the weather is cool.
We had a great time and would definitely return. Also the email and texts from Vacasa were timely and informative the week of our stay.

Since I have given the company 3 chances to correct and compensate I will post these comments on my experience.
Check in was frustrating since no one was at office and no directions for key box. Luckily the door was open at the house. On arrival at house we found urine in one of the toilets, bugs in sink, pool that was about five inches short of water and sucking air into valve.
Then toilet was overflowing from back, attempted to check it out, it overflowed again. Used all clean towels to soak up water. Tried three times to call help number, 30 minutes on hold, no answer.
Next morning was able to talk with someone that was not local. She was very nice and apologetic and said she would waive the cleaning fee... we said that was not enough based on no working toilet in Master bathroom. She said she would check and see if she could discount 25%, we payed over $4000.00 for the week. She never got back to us. Then I stopped by the office and spoke with a women, she was also very polite and apologetic , promised to follow up with us after speaking with higher up... we never heard from her.... we checked out a day early.
This property although a great locations is pretty in need of some TLC. For that price the I expected a lot more. We have rental properties and I would feel bad about charging that price for such a poorly managed property.
Hi Edward, we apologize that you were unhappy with your visit. We apologize if the cleanliness of the home left something to be desired, and we will follow-up with our housekeeping team to see that future cleans are completed to our standards. We are so sorry for any delays in communication or assistance with check-in. The current events have lead to an unprecedented volume of calls and messages from our guests, which has posed significant delays in our communication. We are happy to report that we have added several new team members and reworked our phone system to help us ensure guests receive prompt assistance. We hope to have the opportunity to impress you in the future.

The house was great. Spacious home, private pool, excellent patio space, a playground for the kids, and just a five minute walk to the beach. Exactly what we wanted.
