This oceanfront part of West Maui is a strong choice for families who want to see the water without driving to it. Follow the northern path toward the beach to watch for turtles, then use nearby Kahekili Beach Park for open sand. Black Rock Beach is within four miles for a snorkeling outing, and Kapalua Beach gives the group a scenic destination farther north. The complex pool is there for an easy afternoon close to home. Beach days can be active here, but they do not have to be complicated.

Getting around:
Kahului Airport is Maui's main airport. A rental car is recommended for exploring West Maui's beaches, dining, shops, and coastal sights. Plan on driving for most outings and allow extra time for traffic along the coast.
